Remembering Thome's Milestone

When I was 8 years old, the Twins beat the Braves in the 1991 World Series, and my mom went absolutely nuts. I don't mean nuts in the literal sense – she didn't wind up heavily sedated or institutionalized; I only mean baseball crazy. This kind of crazy doesn't require medical attention or therapy, at least in most cases, but it can still be worrisome. It's the kind that makes you pace and sweat and swear at playoff-overachievers like Mark Lemke on the TV in front of your children. The kind that

The Church of Baseball

I remember the first time I saw Bull Durham. It was 2004 and I was still living in mom and dad's basement. I was drinking cold bottles of Miller High Life with my buddy Al, and we were flipping channels when we stopped just in time to see Susan Sarandon – who was still in Vintage Babe Form back in the late 80s – walk out of her house and into a minor league ballpark. She delivered an A+ monologue to start the movie, and I was hooked as soon as she mentioned that there are 108 beads in a Catholic

Could Parmelee Make the Roster?

One question not addressed by most writers is if first baseman Chris Parmelee will make the big league roster. It has just been assumed by everybody including myself, that Parmelee starts the year at Rochester for more at bats and experience. Obviously there was no rush to get Parmelee in Minnesota because Justin Morneau occupies his position at first base. However, things have changed a lot in the last couple weeks at spring training in Fort Myers, Florida. Morneau has not played a game in

ExTCs - The Arms

originally posted at http://twins-extcs.blogspot.com/   ---   The Arms: 2012 will see the return of Johan Santana and could, in fact, be a defining year in evaluating who got the best of the 2008 Trade. With Deolis Guerra as the only remaining piece of that trade still with the Twins organization, it seems every good outing for Johan will push the Mets further into the win column.     If this spring is any indication, we should also see a lot from pitchers from our not too distant past in 2012.

Eight Reasons Why Brian Dozier Should Start at Shortstop for the Twins in 2012

[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]   He wasn't a household name last year at this time, even among many followers of the Twins' minor league system, but much has changed in the past 12 months. Depending on whom you speak to in the front office, there seem to be differing interpretations on Dozier's role in the Twins' organization this season. Make no mistake -- everyone is speaking of him highly right now. Terry Ryan, for instance, recently mentioned that he would not hesitate to call

Friday Links-N-Thinks

Original Post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It felt good to get back to a full week of Twins coverage here at NoDak Twins Fan and after my vacation in Arizona it was great to get caught up on all of the happenings across Twins Territory. We are only a few short weeks away from baseball being played under the sun at Target Field. It will be a welcome sight to see the hometown nine take the field for the first time and for the memories of an awful 2011 to go away.   The NFL contin

Spring in Northern MN, Spring Training, NCAA Tourney and Las Vegas.

It's my blog and I can talk about what I want to, which is great and I hope people enjoy the fun I am going to have this year writing everyday things. I just returned from Las Vegas, spending a great time betting on NCAA basketball, (which went horribly bad), and doing a lot of drinking w/ my really good friends. First stop was Fremont, of course this is my favorite place to go because of the type of people and shenanigans you run into, and quite frankly it is less expensive to do things. We

How Brad Radke Crosses Generations Through Spring Training

originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   ~~~   You may have noticed that every time I talk about attending Spring Training games, I mention that I like to visit with the other fans, especially the retirees. I like the retirees because they always seem so happy. Since the game doesn't matter so much, it's pretty easy to develop a great, interesting conversation.       Such was the case on Thursday the 15th, during that 15-7 debacle against the Pirates. My husband and I, along with our f

Ranking the Twins hitters by Spring Training OPS

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---   Because a lot of write-ups and reports from the beat writers about the Twins' Spring Training performance are mentioning how someone is "hitting", using only their batting averages (70s anyone?), I felt that it might be a good idea to rank all the Twins' hitters based on Spring Training OPS (which is a tad more meaningful.) Players denoted with "MILB" have been assigned to the Twins Minor League Camp. Clearly some players are having great

2012 MLB Fan Cave

So most of you by now know I'm headed to New York City to inhabit the MLB Fan Cave this season and to be honest, I couldn't have done it without all of you. Twins Territory definitely stepped up when it came time to get a Twins fan into the Cave and I am so thankful for all of your support! I promise to make you all proud in New York City (and to boo the Yankees any chance I get)!   It's been a wild ride and since most people have been curious about my experience, I figured I take a second or tw

Twins Release Six Minor Leaguers

On Thursday morning, the Twins front office performed one of their most difficult tasks. They informed six minor league players that their dream of playing in the big leagues for the Minnesota Twins was coming to an end, that they had been released. I like to highlight the players released because they have all put in some quality time in the Twins organization and deserve to be recognized one more time as they exit the organization. Some of them may be able to hook on with another organization.

Rosario's infield transformation continues

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XZ4BnqAdoiU/T2qVBaec3DI/AAAAAAAABJA/pTpDj5rw4fI/s320/ux4BUKbr.jpg In recent years the Twins have struggled to produce quality middle infielders who could succeed at the big league level. There has been a steady stream of infielders to man second base and shortstop for the Twins during the last two seasons but no one has stood out above the crowd. During this offseason, the organization decided to try to create
