Minnesota Twins prospect Austin Martin is expected to be added to the 40-man roster early next week, which will put him in a great place to potentially make his Major League debut at some point in 2024. Once ranked the No. 22 prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline, they've soured so much on his stock that he's only their No. 20 prospect just in the Twins system. Here is some video of Martin from his time in St. Paul this season and a discussion on why I still like his game. He's my No. 4 Twins prospect, behind only Walker Jenkins, Brooks Lee and Emmanuel Rodriguez.

I have nothing against Martin.  I just think they could get more out of Michael Helman. And he's not even ranked. Is there hate for him? IMO Martin's stock dropped because he didn't set the world on fire as he advanced. Injuries and other players improvements in the system. I would say he's solid but still has a ways to go. Maybe 2024 will put him back on track. Writers and scouts get stuff wrong once in a while too.

Castro / Martin / Severino and Larnach or even Gordon fit together nicely as bench players.  Castro can play every position except 1B/C.  Martin can play 2B/CF/LF.  Severino can play 1B/2B/3B and is a switch hitter.  Prato can play 2B/3B/LF.

I concur that it shouldn't be called "hate" of Austin Martin. I think perhaps people have been disappointed in his performance and his shortcomings have been highlighted too much.

I said this a year ago and I'll say it again--Austin Martin has precisely the skill set that the Twins need. He's a right handed hitter who profiles to make contact and get on base. He has well above average speed and may develop into a real threat on the bases and he's a versatile defender who may be able to play league average defense in center field.

Much of his profile is speculation. If he's able to perform as has been speculated, he'll have a large role for the '24 Twins and beyond.

If Austin is as good a centerfielder as I've heard, then the Twins need to see how his bat plays in the majors. I love guys that have a high on-base percentage and can steal bases.

Agree especially on Helman! I did see Martin play in AAA this year and wasn't blown away but the more I watched him his defensive ability especially in the outfield really stood out. Could the let him play center like Taylor this year and maybe Buxton could actually play center some but Probably won't happen his injuries are chronic.

Out of Spring Training the Buxton/Castro/Gordon combination in CF has to be the solution at least through May. Martin may be a big part of the mix by July 1 but he needs another 50-60 games in St Paul before coming to the Show.  Good speed - RH bat - he fits well if the other guys are struggling at all.

I sign Solano & roll with him & Kirilloff again. at 1B. If Kirilloff is mending too slowly, Gallo could be signed for $2.5M to play 1B for 6 weeks. I know that sounds crazy but it’s better than losing some viable prospect in a trade & possibly overpaying at 1B. Can upgrade here at deadline if absolutely needed!!

Who’s the best guy for Twins to trade for value? Polanco/Farmer/Julien? Who do we hurt least losing & who brings something in return?

Polanco isn’t available enough & costs $10.5M……,,Farmer costs $3.5M less than Polanco & is available every day (both hit .256 in ‘23) ……,.Julien has too much upside to trade.

Polanco - Miranda - Moran - Larnach - Headrick - Sands are guys (3 of them) that could help a sub .500 club be more competitive. Polanco & 2 guys under team control for a while makes sense for a trade partner.

Our problem is we probably can only target a blah to OK pitcher (a stretch) or prospects. Getting Devon Williams for couple years of control or C. Burnes for a year (Varland to Start or in Pen depending on the guy in trade) rental and creating 40 man space by moving 3 guys works for me?

Martin & Lee are the 2 shot in the arms we will need on offense by mid-summer.
