  1. I think we fans need to stop making excuses for Belisle. It's entirely likely that a 3 run (or more) meltdown in less than 1 IP every couple weeks is simply who he is now. He's already had 4 such outings. What's the point of keeping a guy that you have zero confidence to use in any kind of close game? It's time to cut bait.
  2. Almost everyone who I have ever heard with an opinion on the matter says that no one should throw a curve ball or slider until he is at least 16. So, it really isn't terribly surprising that few have it well developed at 18. And if they do, I would wonder how long he has been throwing a breaking ball and be concerned about that degree of wear on his young arm.
  3. Because these are NL rules. He'll have to wait until the pitchers' spot hits again to take him out.
  4. I serm to recall someone saying that if the Twins traded Ervin, it would have to be to an AL team because he couldn't hit.
  5. And only them if they don't get extended before season's end. The good ones usually do.
  6. Santiago is a FA. Gibson would be arb eligible. I would assume he'll be non-tendered if he is still even under team control at season's end. Gonsalves (assuming he remains healthy the rest of the season) figures to be in the mix for a rotation spot at the beginning of next season. Romero, most likely not until mid 2018.
  7. So, your strategy is get to the playoffs and hope whatever team has an aging veteran playing poor defense and making base running mistakes and then further hope that maybe a future opponent loses it's top two offensive weapons? The reality of the extra rounds of playoffs mean that is simply more likely that the best team in each league makes it the Fall Classic.
  8. Scranton appears to be a team that likes to strike out as well. David Hurlbut recorded 11 K in 6 2/3 IP today and he's averaging about 6 or 7 per 9. Of course, any way you slice it, 15 K out of 18 outs is dealing. I'd say he's absolutely earned a shot. Give him 3-4 starts, if things go well, 3-4 more. If things don't work out as a starter, try him in the pen for 2-3 weeks. If what he is doing now truly doesn't play at the MLB level, at least he can say "I gave it a shot" and move on with his life.
  9. Vargas was added to replace Polanco. Heston, I assume is taking Rosario's spot.
  10. Santiago still has more quality starts this year than non-quality starts. Gibson has zero quality starts this year and had just 8 in 25 starts last year - only two after July.
  11. In order to get, you have to be willing to give. What are you willing to give? At this point, your choices are limited to guys on teams that have already thrown in the towel. So, you are talking about probably only Oakland in the AL. Any team not named the Nationals in the NL East, the Padres and the Giants. So, like 7 teams. Most of them have relief corps that are in the bottom half of the league. Maybe George Kontos. Maybe Jim Johnson of the Braves. But you'll have to pay more to get him as he's signed cheap for next year. Probably could get Dustin McGowan cheap from Miami, but he's more long man than set up. Reed, Salas or Blevins might be available from the Mets. Neshek from Phillie has been discussed. He's probably available, but why trade for Neshek when you might have the equivalent in AAA?
  12. Turley is pitching WAY better in AAA than he ever has before. Clearly, he's doing something different. I don't know what that is because I'd never really heard of him before. New pitch perhaps? I don't know how you can make a blanket statement that it's very likely he'd be far worse than Santiago. "FAR worse?" It would be pretty hard for anyone to be FAR worse than Santiago lately. Santiago has been Gibson-esque horrid his last couple starts. You wouldn't think a 21 pitch relief stint would have that much carry over. I'm not suggesting, at this point anyway, that he be replaced. He's earned a longer rope than that. Kyle Gibson, on the other hand, has not. He can be returned to AAA and replaced by Turley ASAP as far as I am concerned. IMO, it's his turn.
  13. I think you are remembering the reality of 2001 incorrectly. The Twins traded an impending free agent outfielder (which was a position of surplus) for a starting pitcher whom they controlled for the following two seasons and who was, in fact, the BEST starting pitcher on the team the following season of 2002. Then they traded a borderline competent starting pitcher (who was injured btw) for instant bullpen help. Given the way LaTroy Hawkins was floundering as a closer, it was a positive outcome. btw, where in any post I have made in any thread have I given any suggestion that I believe the Twins have a chance to make the playoffs this year?
  14. The Twins have some prospects in AAA too. They may not have the pure stuff or even the ultimate ceiling of Rosario, but they are more polished and more likely to be able to help today.
  15. Who's talking about making panic moves? You said if the Twins CONTINUE to play well why sell anyone. I am simply pointing out that in their current stretch of games, they are not playing well.
  16. 4-7 in last 11 games. The Twins aren't playing well already.
  17. Remember last inning when Dozier's homerun put the Twins back in the game?
  18. Our two long men aren't providing much length. I suspect Rosario and Wimmers are out. Wimmers DFA. Rosario to AAA. Up next, Busenitz and maybe Hildenberger, assuming neither pitched tonight. That would necessitate another 40 man move. Hughes to the 60 day remains an option. DFA Tepesch would be another.
  19. So, he'll lay over in Chicago. There's no rush.
  20. Just like American top 40, the hits just keep coming.
  21. He'll probably go to Rochester. Unless, of course, the guy to replace him happens to be Melotakis.
