  1. Did you Know: Colin Moran’s uncle (well, one of them) is former big leaguer BJ Surhoff...
  2. They are country mates with Dozier too.
  3. Kinda looking like maybe Lynn should have been held back longer. I know I asked after the signing if Lynn had a minor league option. The general consensus was that he did. There really would have been no reason for him to decline a two week (or maybe even less) assignment. Sure, the cold probably isn’t helping. But it doesn’t seem to be bothering his mound opponent.
  4. I’m lucky. My anniversary is strategically placed about two weeks after my birthday. My wife’s birthday is 10 days after that. So, when my birthday comes, I know it’s time to make arfangements for the other two.
  5. Don’t feel bad. I’m not sure half the pols in Washington realized that before Maria.
  6. April can be tricky in Minny. Sure enough. It can be 60 just as easily as 20. I agree though, barring actual precipitation the games should be played.
  7. That has to be a question when an offense does that poorly in a series. As has been mentioned: we’ll find out soon enough. Maybe not this week. Neither Pittsburgh or Seattle figure to be offensive juggernauts. The Astros are in town next week...
  8. Worst K rate on the starting staff. Disappointing.
  9. Too bad they’ll be at home for two straight weeks in 5 days too. Highs in the 30s for the home opening weekend. Rain and or snow the following week. Welcome home!
  10. Moya is going to have a hard time getting outs with an upper 80s fastball. The change up is a weapon, but if hitters guess right on the fastball, they will hammer it.
  11. Perkins was Nathan’s set up man for 2-3 years before being a full time closer. Nathan was only in middle relief for one year with the Giants. It’s relevant because “blown holds” count as blown saves and as such make a guy who was a set up man appear to have a lower career save pct. Rodney was a set up man for many years in Detroit and at some of the other stops in his career.
  12. So, reading between the lines, you are saying Buxton leading off and Morrison 4th? I’m not sure it makes sense for someone with Buxton’s lack of pitch recognition to be leading off. You generally want a guy who can work the count and get on base at a good rate. Maybe someday, but Byron isn’t that guy yet. He definitely should be at the bottom of this batting order in 2018. Dozier and Sano are similarly streaky hitters. When hot, either is certainly capable of carrying an offense. Not sure either is really suited to the 3 hole. Dozier kinda is what he is. I think the hope is Sano develops into a Miguel Cabrera type hitter. Not sure how it makes sense to bat Escobar who hit over 20 HR last year 9th, after Castro. Given where these guys are in their development, I think the lineup is as good as it can be.
  13. If the Twins don’t intend to use Rodney ever for a second inning, he shouldn’t have been brought in for the 10th. Once you bring your closer into a tie game on the road, the general rule is to stick with him as long as possible. That’s why a closer rarely comes into a tie game on the road. I think Molitor was caught off guard by Hildenberger’s ineffectiveness. Otherwise, Pressly would have been warming. Rodney had already warmed up so he was able to come in right away. So, let’s place some blame on Hildenberger for pitching poorly too to force Molitor into that move. Of course, pitching wasn’t why the Twins lost yesterday. Terrible hitting was.
  14. I don’t think I said or implied any of that. I simply corrected a factual error.
  15. The trend in MLB has been to have your “best” relievers used in the high leverage situations that occur before the 9th inning. If Reed doesn’t do what he did, chances are pretty good there is no 11th inning.
  16. Bundy has a career 105 ERA+. I don’t know to describe that other than pedestrian.
  17. I looked up the number of wild pitches charged to the Astros during Castro’s tenure way back when Castro signed. As I recall, they were considerably higher than the rest of the league. My understanding is that his set up for framing puts him in bad position to block pitches. Personally, I feel that blocking pitches is substantially more important. It’s something that Kurt Suzuki excelled at btw.
  18. Alex Colome had 47 saves last year and had .7 bWAR. Closers don’t generally have a high WAR.
  19. I think I saw that movie. The phantom strike zone attacks the clones. Right?
  20. Maybe not if one (or both) trade for an upgrade midseason.
  21. 5 hits against a rather pedestrian starting pitcher is a little concerning.
  22. You did watch him pitch last year, right? He gave up TEN (10) HR in 60 IP last year. Ten. Rodney has given up 8 in the last two years and 60 in over 800 career IP. Him giving up a HR is extremely rare.
  23. Yeah, because ERA is the best way to evaluate a closer. Said. NO ONE. Ever.
