  1. Note to Clevinger: get a haircut ya hippie!
  2. Not sure I see your point. Based on what Killebrew did in his one season in KC it seems the Twins were right in that his best days were long past and he probably would have been better off retiring. btw, maybe you are familiar with the guy who took over at first in Harmon’s absence: Rod Carew. 1975 was when he made his trsnsition to first base. IMO, the best thing for Mauer to do is retire.
  3. They are better than the current tandem (Mauer and Morrison) that is certain. And that is if Kepler doesn’t improve, which is something I hope would happen. Also, my plan calls for Austin to play 1b vs LHP, putting Kepler in RF. Kepler would get most of his time at first vs RHP.
  4. Because MOY is who he is. Also, Hildenberger has made ten appearances since July 20, a span of 18 days. One of which was an off day. So, that’s 10 appearances in 17 team games.
  5. Putting Kepler at first allows the Twins to get Cave’s bat in the lineup. Which, as of today, is someting he has earned. I’m not at all concerned about Kepler’s ability to field at first.
  6. Not sure how Magill’s earned a “higher leverage” role. He’s given up at least one run in 7 of his last 9 appearances.
  7. Not sure Duensing or Swarzak fit the description. Their numbers aren’t significantly different post Twins. The Twins simply chose not to retain them.
  8. Big test for Mejia. He doesn’t get to face hitters a third time very often. It might be wise to have someone warming. Just in case.
  9. I see the boxscore indicates both pitchers have hit a batter. Anyone watching see how it played out? Edit: Looks like Mejia hit Brantley and then Carrasco threw at Forsythe’s head as the first batter of the next inning. Ultimate revenge: Garver driving him in with the 3 run bomb.
  10. I thought he did a couple times at the MLB level as well. I could be mistaken. I knew he played there in the minors. That was why I suggested it. The key, of course, is to play him there in ST next year. At 6’4”, he provides a nice target as well. It’s been a long time since the Twins have had even a semi-regular left handed thrower play first, but it does make many plays easier. Throws to second, pick off catches and it allows you to face the incoming runner on a routine ground ball, as opposed to having your back to him being a righty thrower. I think Ortiz was the last. There have been some that have played a handful here and there, but I’d bet he was the last lefty thrower to play even 30 games in a season at first.
  11. Perhaps Morrison is trying to channel his inner Tim Laudner. Of course, he was a catcher...
  12. Reading what the medical books say about this particular affliction, I’d say it’s more like a cracking type knee. Something I’ve had since I was about 35...
  13. Mauer has started more than 120 games at first just once since becoming the “everyday” first baseman in 2014, and he won’t this year either. So, that’s AT LEAST 1/4 of the games where you need someone else. It just doesn’t work with 12 and 13 man bullpens.
  14. Cover it between Kepler, Austin and Sano. When Kepler is at first, Cave is in the OF. He’s earned a shot at regular playing time. It is time to move on from the Mauer era IMO.
  15. Imagine all the people, living life in peace. You may say, “I’m a dreamer” but I’m not the only one.
  16. If they continue to do better, I would suspect it has more to do with being around better players or (especially for the pitchers) being put in a role more likely to help them succeed.
  17. Including that in the letter to the fans?
  18. It does seem pretty convenient. Maybe it explains how his awfulness has gone to the next level.
  19. I was just going to say that Belisle’s name on the list of relievers is conspicuous by it’s absence. Belisle is no doubt suffering from washedupitus.
  20. I don’t know if I love the idea of Garver pitching. I’m old enough to remember Jose Canseco pitching once and how it destroyed what was once a very good throwing arm. The Twins are carrying 8 relievers. Use them. That’s what they are paid for. Did Garver ask to pitch? Probably. That doesn’t mean Molitor has to say yes. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt doing it. Then someone gets fired.
  21. Yeah, they’d rather roster Matt Belisle. Because wouldn’t anyone?
  22. Are we certain that’s still true? It’s been 5 years since he was an elite level player (bWAR above 3.5). Minnesota sports fans are notoriously fickle and “fair weather”. I’d be interested to know if jersey sales, for example, still indicate he’s one of the most popular players. What will put butts in the seats is a culture of winning. Probably need to get more than 115 OPS + (Mauer’s BEST number since 2013) from first base to help that along.
  23. How about a quasi-platoon with Cave and Austin? For my money, Cave has earned the right to be penciled into fairly regular playing time in 2019. On the hope (absolutely not the assumption) that Buxton looks like a MLB player next year, I think getting him regular starts in RF while sliding Kepler over to 1b would be a workable plan. Of course, that is also predicated on Sano sticking at third, by no means a certainty.
  24. Well, we have this ball boy down in low A. He’s a hot prospect...
