  1. I think we are very, very close to having Buxton officially be a "bust". Sano might be OK in the long run but I think Byron's on the brink of playing himself out of the major leagues for good. Very sad stuff.
  2. I hear you and totally get the argument. We know who buys condos in Wrigley, and we know why...younger couples want to be close to the action and live the urban dream for a few years. They get a dog, then have kids a few years later and move to Schaumberg. Maybe it's not the residents that are inconvenienced as much as the businesses, like you said. With a full slate of night games that area could turn into a bigger sh*t-show than it already is now. It's Sounds like you've got a great location, I love that area over by Soldier Field, it's really developed a ton in the past 15 years. I lived in Ukrainian Village for about 10 years (after my obligatory first Chicago year in Lakeview). I appreciated being only a few blue line stops from downtown but without the crowds. That said, living so close to Western Ave was like being next to a highway sometimes. :-0 Haven't been back to Chicago since I sold all my stuff on Craigslist, put a few t-shirts in a backpack and moved to Guatemala 5 years ago. Most of the time I don't miss it, but watching the Cubs games the past few days really bring back some nostalgic feelings.
  3. As you are aware, these regulations are because the stadium is in a residential neighborhood. The lights came on 8/8/88 (I was in the stands that day!) and ever since, neighbors have steadfastly voted for aldermen/women who will ensure that they can have some peace & quiet at night. The Cubs have been asking for more night games for years - and they seem to get a handful more each time they ask. But you have to have some sympathy for the neighbors and residents here.
  4. Unfortunately, the Twins are at a point where every loss crushes hope and momentum. Losing 4-out-of-5 ballgames isn't a step in the right direction, no matter how many runs you score. I sure do agree it was nice to see some 2-out hitting today but the weather was a huge factor. Before the game even started, Vegas had this game pegged as the highest scoring game of the day...humid, hot day games at Wrigley produce tons of runs.
  5. Thanks again Tom for watching these games and giving us the rundown! Gotta be a tough job right about now, respect to ya.
  6. Nobody wants Morrison, period. Dozier's and Santana's values are at an all time low. Terrible timing for a struggling team. Rosario's staying put. Lynn and Escobar are the only players that might get a decent return. Rodney/Reed might get you flyers on low-level minor leaguers. That's really it. Rough year. Can't even be sellers effectively because nobody wants what the Twins have.
  7. Here's the definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Save_(baseball)
  8. Totally agree 100%. Vargas has never been this bad, in fact he was pretty solid during his time on the team last year. Ditching Vargas for Morrison was a terrible decision, but it can be fixed. Demote Lomo, bring up Kennys.
  9. And that's exactly where he should be, for the rest of the season! Logan Morrison was a bad signing. No two ways around it. The Twins are in terrible positions with so many players already (ie: Buxton, Sano)...they should cut dead weight with Morrison to lighten their workload. He's absolutely toxic at this point.
  10. Time to clean house. I think Gene Glynn would be a nice interim manager for the rest of the season. Adrianza keeps this up and the Twins may be able to get a decent minor leaguer for him at the deadline. Max Kepler's BA is down to .220.... This game really did change in that 6th inning. Twins need the next 2, or it's gonna be a long road trip.
  11. And I wonder why the Powers that Be thought Motter was better? Petit batted .308 in 26 at bats this year. Nobody expected him to be Dustin Pedrioa, he wasn't, but he seemed to at least be able to spot start with efficiency. Motter's younger and can play OF. But Petit is a better ballplayer. Isn't that the most important thing in the end?
  12. Kinda baffled on how the Twins just kind of passed him over this year, Mejia hasn't even been mentioned too often. I find that odd considering he was with the team most of last year, and pitched well as a 24 year-old lefty. The Twins gave up a guy having an All-Star season (Nunez) to get him, seems only right they'd really see what they have with Mejia.
  13. Another soft-tossing, below average journeyman lefty holds the mighty Twins offense in check. Those number 4 and 5 starters lick their chops when they see the Twins on the schedule. The Twins offense has been horrible. So what does the front office do? Sign Matt Belisle. I realize that bullpen help was needed but we've got those guys in AAA for a reason. I hear Buxton had a HR in Rochester last night. Might as well bring 'em up, pronto. He seems to play better in low-pressure situations. It seems that with the Twins now 7 games back, circling the drain, it would be a good time to bring him up and see if he can put up some stats. Depressed and disappointed. I still haven't reached the "acceptance" stage of grief but I'm almost there.
  14. On the plus side, at least we're not Argentina futbol fans. Ouch. How about this: the Twins give Mauer a chance at 3rd base. Now we can call up Vargas or Carter. Mauer at 3b, Escobar at SS, Dozier at 2B and Carter/Vargas splitting time at 1B/DH or whatever. Maybe that's far fetched but I say it's time to ditch Morrison and call up Vargas. For all the crap people talked about Vargas "not living up to the hype", he was never close to this terrible. He had some big hits for the Twins and should get another chance. Morrison is dead weight and really hurting this team. He's a sunk cost and keeping him longer isn't going to get the Twins any money back from this mistake. Move on with Vargas over LOMO.
  15. Great win! Let's complete the sweep this time - they almost did it in Cleveland last series, sure would be nice to see it happen today! Dozier, one day after being called out by the Twins round table, delivers! Another "just-get-the-job-done" outing by Lynn, nice to see Reed have a clean inning as well. Logan Morrison. Dud city. The guy seems to strike out or hit grounders to 1st base every time. Not much "sting" on the ball either. I'd rather see Gregor Petit in the batter's box, and I'm not joking. Break out the brooms!
  16. Thanks for the hot scoop. It's hard not to be concerned...but after reading your article it sounds like Royce might just need some rest, and we'll see how the therapy goes. Thanks again!
  17. Escobar continues to simply amaze, he and Rosario are simply carrying this team. Can you imagine if Dozier, Sano, Buxton, and Morrison were even having average seasons next to those two? It would be a much different look in the standings. Unfortunately we just have to hope and wait. Great win, especially nice to see some fire from this team. Hope this gets contagious. Duke could use a 1-2-3 inning for a change. Hildy has the hot arm in the 'pen. Hope he doesn't fall victim to overuse.
  18. Completely agree, I think this should be a huge priority after Molitor's gone.
  19. I think the hiring was intended to placate a fanbase but it was a complete misread. Sure, some fans in the over-60 rural market probably got excited while munching their Product 19 when the Molitor hiring was announced. But I don't think many die-hard Twins fans were too thrilled with the move. He was a low-level hitting coach and a "roving instructor" before getting the job. No experience with analytics, no real management experience...I'm surprised they didn't make Dave Winfield the hitting coach while they were at it! The Molitor hire was an insult to the intelligence of many Twins fans, it was RED MEAT and just an attempt to get more butts in the seats. Those days are over, we should expect more from this outfit. Paul Molitor should be fishing in Brainerd this summer, not sitting in the dugout as the Twins drop series to Chicago, KC, and Detroit. When the team caught fire last year in a very, very down year in the American League and made the Wildcard Game, it really hurt our chances to get rid of Molitor. Like many, I don't see the F.O. doing anything - unless the Twins lose 15 straight or something.
  20. I agree with mikelink45 - we can rip Adrianza and Garver all we want, but that's low-hanging fruit. Morrison is batting .188 with 7 home runs. Were it not for Chris Davis' nosedive in Baltimore, Logan Morrison would be the biggest disappointment in baseball right now. I'm not sure where the recent warm and fuzzy treatment of Morrison has come from, people saying things like "over his last 15 games he's hitting .239" like that's supposed to be a good thing. The guy was supposed to hit 30 HR and drive in 90 runs, he's been absolutely awful and a black hole in this lineup. Where are the 3-hit games? The multi-homer games? The hot streaks? A real shame to drop this game today, the Twins still aren't making up much ground and they are still way below .500. Great individual play from Escobar again, but he's getting zero help. Molitor's shaking up the lineup, but it's something he should have done last month. Odorizzi is giving Romero a run for his money as the worst of the starting 5. Glad they've got Berrios, Lynn, and Gibby going against the Red Sox. Unfortunately they're going against Sale, Price, and Porcello.
  21. He's just one of those type of hitters. Mauer's timing is so good, his fundamentals so sound, that he lines a ton of pitches straight back to the mound. Thank goodness it's players like Mauer that do it, rather than guys like Harper, Encarnacion, Stanton, etc. I'm sure that's small consolation to Cookie Carasco right now.
  22. Great game, Eddie! Honestly, the Twins have put themselves into a position where they really need a win tomorrow as well. A win puts them just 3 games back, and a sweep might bring some much needed swagger back into the clubhouse. Hate to get greedy, but I think in order to really start rolling they need tomorrow's game as well. Regardless, nice to see some fight on the road from this team here. Nice game from Mauer, hope he plays tomorrow as well.
