    Arraez getting the start in LF today on opening day - bold prediction: he becomes the Twins everyday starting LF, making the whole Rosario/Cave/Garlick/Kiriloff fiasco irrelevant.

    Final spring training averages: Kepler: .070 Buxton: .135 Simmons: .138 Sano: .159 Garver: .172 Maybe it's not Garlick or Astudillo who we should be worried about.

    Never understood how anyone could hate Astudillo. Especially a Twins fan. Sure, maybe you don't like his stats, or don't think he's super talented. But honestly, I'm shocked to see folks here who literally despise him. It's like hating Muggsy Bogues or Spud Webb. I can see being critical of their value, but how could you hate them? Willians had a great spring, hitting .361 with tons of ABs. His numbers speak for themselves. He did what he needed to do, give the guy credit. Yes he's is prone to make a gaffe or two, but the guy hustles and does the best with what he's got - most people with bodies like his aren't playing professional sports. The guy's got moxie and you can't coach that. Baseball is a marathon. Having guys like Astudillo on the team help make it interesting - in a good way. And his teammates love him, that counts for something too!

    Once I got past my initial shock, this seems to be a rather shrewd move. This front office doesn't take any of its players for granted - when they see a contributor who can be extended, they take the opportunity. Cool. Looking forward to seeing how Randy responds this season!

    Much deserved for Kenta Maeda, nobody can argue with that decision. Glad to see Baldelli putting the best guy up first, sends a solid message: you play well, you get rewarded. Buxton's tooth doesn't seem to be bothering him. Dentist pulls a tooth, Byron pulls a homer. Franco to the O's, any other free agents that should be playing still out there? Puig's the guy I always think about, he's got a few off-the-field issues but most guys with his talent would be signed by now. Word on the street is managers don't like this guy, which is weird because he plays hard.

    Brandon Waddell has a 10.84 ERA. He's also given up 4 hits in his 3.1 innings, and walked two.....why did he make this list again? Oh yeah, he struck out a few guys. I know we've entered the age where real stats like wins and ERA don't matter to anyone, but c'mon man. At some point you gotta look at something besides strikeouts to determine whether or not a pitcher is good. The other options in the mix so far have been fun to watch and certainly will be fun to watch as we enter the 2nd half of ST. Can't wait to see how it pans out. Thanks Tom!

    Sucks to be under 50 and hearing about all of these vaccinations everyone's getting - waiting in line down here in Florida and there are tons of seniors ahead of me! It's all good though, they deserve it and I'll wait my turn. At least it should be soonish, down at my other place in Guatemala it's probably not even going to happen until late 2021 or early 2022 for most. Agree with most here, understand why MN is playing it safe and I totally get it....but at some point, c'mon man. We've been on this rodeo ride for a year. I can see restrictions in the beginning because nobody knew how to handle themselves, but at this point we know what we're doing. I'm not playing politics - I'm just a baseball fan speaking from a baseball fan perspective (that's what I do on Twins Daily!) At some point soon let's just rip this damn band-aid off and get life back to normal. Gimme a foot-long hot dog, large coke and an upper deck seat - I'm ready!

    I always felt Sparkman was a bulldog when watching him pitch against the Twins. Didn't even realize they'd signed him this year. Nice.

    Yeah, the Twins are in a no-win situation with Buxton here. They can't afford to extend him based on his potential, because they've continuously felt like they've been burned by his injuries and prolonged slumps. Buxton, on the other hand, won't accept a deal based on what he's worth, simply because there's a line of MLB teams with deep pockets who WILL pay him based on his potential. Throw in that season a few years ago where the Twins demoted him and refused to call him up in September ( think that's always left a bad taste in Byron's mouth) AND the fact that this team hasn't won a playoff game in forever, and I think it's almost certain he'll leave this team after 2022. As fans, it's going to be hard because we'll always want him to do well, but if he breaks out of his mold between ages 30-34 and wins an MVP Award - which is not out of the realm of possibility in my opinion - we'll feel burned.

    I'm a 45 year-old man. Weekend warrior athlete, I still play a little soccer, jog/run and do some hiking. Back in my youth I played on the HS varsity basketball team, probably played basketball every day between ages 12 and 18. I've spent years shoveling snow, walking on ice, even slipping and falling plenty of times....no knee injuries for me (knock on wood). Yet one of the best athletes in professional sports slips on some ice in Texas and he's out for a year with a catostrophic injury. It's perplexing indeed!

    Bah-ROO-TAAAL. Damn. So he's gonna miss this year, spend next year in the minors catching up, and now his ETA is 2023? Yeowch.

    With all due respect, having a 2019 All-Star in Polanco as the backup SS isn't exactly "non-existent", at least in my opinion. I know his fielding has been dragged through the mud, but in my opinion it's gone way too far. People here literally think Polanco is the worst fielding baseball player to ever put on a baseball uniform. Polanco is more than sufficient at shortstop and he's made great plays. Better than Simmons? No way. Chopped liver? Most certainly not.

    Darius, you nailed it. Couldn't have said it better. Add in that we let Rosario go - it's not like there's an established 30 HR 100+ RBI guy currently playing in RF. We're talking Cave/Arraez here.

    Looks like Shoemaker is this year's Homer Bailey. Meh, alright. He's got a decent track record, and if healthy he can give the Twins some innings and maybe a few wins. At this point I'd prefer Dobnak but competition is healthy - speaking of healthy, it's quite possible Shoemaker doesn't stay healthy all year and Randy will likely be a starter for a good part of the year, regardless.

    I consider Thorpe and Smeltzer sunk costs at this point. Hope I'm wrong.

    I looked at some of Anderson's highlights. Does anyone else look at this guy and see the body of a starting pitcher? He's 6'4" and 228, and somewhat slow to the plate. Seems very deliberate, kind of a Michael Pineda type. I think the Twins are kinda taking a flyer on a guy with potential to see if our pitching coach can polish him up a bit. I'm thinking if he has a good year, he could be competing for a #4 or #5 starting spot in 2022.

    Hard to feel 100% happy with this trade - sure it makes sense, but saying goodbye to Wade is bittersweet. Wishing him success in SF, he'll certainly have a chance there Says a heckuva lot about where the Twins are on Kiriloff. They clearly see him as a full time guy with Cave as the 4th outfielder. Anderson looks like a solid piece with potential. Nice work FO.

    Some interesting talk on MLBTradeRumors about the Colome signing. Seems to be a rather heated debate about Colome's expanded stats (FIP, xFIP, K%, GB%, etc). Some seem to think he's been very lucky for his entire career, others say that in this player's case, you can throw those expanded stats out the window. I'm guessing the Twins did their homework and I trust they know what they're doing. Good signing. I frankly don't care how he gets outs. Just so long as he's effective. He has a history of getting the job done, looking forward to watching him in a Twins uniform.

    Well, if the Twins weren't going to sign anyone else, then this was the move to make. And they made it. Therefore, it was a good move IMO. Let's see if Nelson has one more awesome year left.

    So, is Kiriloff competing for a starting job this year right out of ST? With Rosario gone, are the Twins projecting Kiriloff to fill that spot? Or is the team projected to start with a Cave/Wade platoon thingy?

    Agreed. If there's one prospect I'm worrying about right now, it's Cavaco. Lot of question marks when this guy was drafted, and zero doubts have been silenced after his poor initial season. He's got a lot of ground to make up. That said, the kid's just 19 still, which is crazy. I think if he's personally the type of guy who is ready to prove people wrong, he could very well jump off the page this year and be back in the top 10 next season. Way to early to consider giving up on this guy, I hope the Twins coaches are focusing on him this upcoming year.
