Can we at least now get past the notion that the front office gave Molitor a fighting chance with the job. It was obvious they wanted to put their own 'stamp' on the manager''s position and had to keep Molitor after last year's unexpected run. The problem I have with the current front office is one of truthfulness, just tell us they wanted to have someone they brought in rather than someone they are told to work with, the misdirection they employed throughout the year really left a sour taste in my mouth. From the dealings with Molitor to them telling us the team they presented to fans after the Escobar and Pressly trades was the best they have (when clearly we had players in the minors that were better than the AAAA players playing on the roster). At some point they have to understand that people are a little smarter than they think and that if telling people up front the truthful information, people will give them the latitude to make mistakes and run things. I wish nothing but the best for Rocco and I hope he is successful but I have my doubts of anything the FO is doing at this time.

Where this team currently stands (not the standings and no pun intended) this should be one of the more simple decisions the front office has to make. If Mauer wants to come back (for less money of course) they should quickly sign him and move on to the question marks they have at the following positions; catcher, third base, second base, DH, bullpen and 2 starting rotation slots. As long as he is physically able to why wouldn't we bring back a gold glove caliber first base player who has a career BA over .305. I'm not concerned about power numbers with Joe. If Sano can actually play a full season at one position without the drama of his weight or injuries then at some point down the line look at move him over to first, for next year and even 2020, let Mauer play it.

Ted intersting and informative article and this seems to be the party line of the metrics group. Relying on just Sano and Buxton as the core is not going to be what gets the job done here, neither have proven themselves to be up to the task so far. We have moved or lost our whole infield now other than Mauer at first base, who as we know is a free agent, and many are calling for him to be gone too, the starting centerfielder is on the DL and the starting DH will not be back next year. This seems like a rebuild and a massive one at that. Yes Berrios and Rosario are good but you need more than those two to build on and none of the twelve prospects we received are going to contribute in a meaningful way in the near future. I would argue that if they move to the top of our organizations prospect list then our farm system is in more trouble than what we have been led to believe.
