Article: Twelve's A Crowd: Twins Are Rolling In Relief
jrod23 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I'm in AAA and on the verge of The Show, I'd be ticked w/the Rule V. Yes, we got Johan Santana that way, but we're flush in the pen right now. Why would we pick up Kinley?- 105 replies

For Kirilloff, Slegers, and Rooker (because Lewis didn't ever play in Elizabethton), how big of a role does Big Dave play in the success of the E-Twins? Love Big Dave!!!

I agree here. I found this article on the ESPN. Not sure if it's kosher to post the link, but I'll try. It's all about signing pitchers long-term. Jayson Stark wrote it after the Max Scherzer signing in Washington back in '15. http://www.espn.com/blog/jayson-stark/post/_/id/1056/seven-year-deals-for-pitchers-big-trouble Two years into that contract and Scherzer is looking like he's making good. However, I can't comprehend signing a pitcher, any pitcher, to a 6-7 year deal after the age of 30. Pitchers know the risk of their position and want the longest deal possible, but why should they get it? I want Darvish, but just because the going long-term rate may be 6-7 years, doesn't mean he should get it...from any team. 4-5 year deal, I'm alright with.

Ridiculously Premature Enthusiasm for Kernels' 2018
jrod23 commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
It's quite possible that they hold on to a few arms in ExST so the weather can heat up in Cedar Rapids before they head north. I'm all over this team as well, and I'm glad to see someone else thinking about Kernels baseball already too. Rightfully so. Getting to Elizabethton last year, was great. "Old Lady Row" littered the air with cow bells as the bench cleared to the tone of a walk off single for the first game of the year. Then culminating with the Appy League Championship. Take the cream of that squad, add more talent in the likes of Barnes, Lewis, possibly Watson yet, etc. and we'll wrap up a first half championship by the mid-May. When we first started our annual minor league road trips, Cedar Rapids was our first stop heading out of Minnesota. Scott and the entire Kernels staff couldn't have been greater. That's evolved into the first/last stop, and another weekend home stand or two throughout the summer. Sprinkle in the MiLB package, and there's no excuse to miss a game. -
Article: Three Prospects To Watch In 2018
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm rubing out here, but the team that won the Appy League last year, will now have the help of Lewis for the start of the season (probably). How they juggle Javier and him is on young Gardy, but the Kernels team this year could rival the 2013 year when they had Kepler, Polanco, Walker, Buxton, Berrios, Melotakis, etc. Tons of talent here for little Gardy. My three would be Thorpe, Kirillof, and Baddoo -

Initially, I thought this was a cocky young athlete getting his. I couldn't have been more wrong. He's hungry, aggressive, and gritty, not to mention a true leader who hates to lose. On top of that, during an autograph Sunday, I saw him talking with a fan with downs. He noticed him looking at his bat while they were taking a picture, and told the fan the bat was his, talked to him for a bit, gave him a hug, and sent him on his way. All that being said, he has lots to improve on, both ways, but I agree with DocBauer, he'd be a prospect that could carry a little weight in a trade. I'd love to see us hang on to him because he's got a higher ceiling, and he's a thief on the bases.

Article: Three Bagger: Darvish, Marte & Otani
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Got it. I read this, "Marte is now a free agent and has been working out for clubs in Florida. With Marte’s contract off the books, the Twins have an extra $3 million available in their bonus pool to spend on other players. The deadline to use that money is June 15, 2018." and automatically thought that was banked money. I saw in another article now too that it's $3.245. As for all the people turned off from signing different Asian born players, we see nothing more than random Youtube videos at most. Gotta trust the guys with THE greatest jobs on earth, the scouts.- 67 replies

Article: Three Bagger: Darvish, Marte & Otani
jrod23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The title here hinted to what's going on, in my meager opinion. For the present, we luckily found a way out of Marte's deal. So unless, there's a circumstance that I'm unaware of, we're be able to drop $6 million+ on Otani (not including the overall posting fee), which is considerably higher than anyone else. Otani is a huge fan of Darvish. Darvish has connections with our front office. So did we find a way out of Marte's deal to sign Otani, once we'd land Darvish? I mean, don't you just get the kid a pair of glasses/contacts for $100 on the year instead of just outright axe his contract?- 67 replies

Watching these guys down in Cedar Rapids actually impressed me a great deal with their cohesiveness and leadership abilities. As you could imagine, they definitely had fun with Lewis having so much hype and his own t-shirt jersey already (which Rortvedt bought and wore to batting practice), but Lewis could hold his own. That, and how he carried himself, got their respect right away. I'm going to bite my tongue on Rortvedt, hope I'm wrong, and trust in Seth's decision to put him on the list.

Article: 2017 Twins Minor League All Star Team
jrod23 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great mix of guys. Love going and watching these guys play before they make it. Adds another dimension to being a baseball fan when you keep close tabs on the minors. I'd agree with much of this list. At the deadline I was quick to nix any idea of trading Gordon. I'm at a point now, after seeing Polanco develop, Package Gordon, Granite, Felix, Kohl Stewart, etc. and get a mainstay pitcher in our rotation. Heck, Gibson may have even gained some trade value. Our patience is paying off right now with this group, and it's time to cash in a few prospects to help the rotation. I think we can afford it.- 28 replies

Article: Rooker Promoted: Aggressive, or No?
jrod23 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This did surprise me, but he was interviewed during a home game right after he signed. He said he was going to Fort Myers to workout. Then the plan was to go to Elizabethton for while, then go back to Fort Myers. That was great news for me since I went down to E-Town for the home opener(s). Big Dave actually let me help deliver all the gear to the guys. So when Rooker pans out, I can say I hand delivered his first pair of spikes. Regardless, so actually Rooker leaked this way back in June right after the draft. I like it. Let Dougy Baseball get his hands on him. E-Town was winning games and Fort Myers is dominating right now. Breed that winning atmosphere for him to be brought up in.- 54 replies

Article: Deadline Primer: Internal Options
jrod23 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How is Mason Melotakis not getting more attention for promotion? He's had some injuries, but he's been solid his whole career (when healthy). I've commented before on our AA and AAA bullpen in the past. Too bad that Chargois and Burdi seem to be on the DL more than on the field, but our high minor bullpens are fairly solid. Between Jake Reed, Melotakis, and Curtiss, we could at least TRY to fill the a hole in our bullpen in the coming series before we possibly commit to Neshek or Hand by shipping some high end prospects.- 37 replies

This is more the norm, prospect ratings that don't pan out. So when I have hopes of a Berrios, Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge, +1 rotation, it'll look more like Berrios, and one of the 3. We do have SOME depth at MI with Vielma, Gordon, Javier, and Palacios (not counting out Lewis). Blankenhorn, Arraez, and Miranda at 2B. I'm sure you could find something out of those 10 boys in the minors to come up with a package for one of the 3, Quintana, Gray, or Archer. What baffles me is calling these guys aces. They're career wins are all hovering around .500. I'd take any of the three, but not at a high price. Felix Jorge, Kintzler, and one other besides Palacios and Gordon. None of them would have a need for Kintzler though. That being said, I don't want to bolster the White Sox farm system any more than it already is. Kopech's a stud. Find a way to weasel him away from the Sox and I would give up Gordon.

Article: Twins Select Royce Lewis First Overall
jrod23 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree. I know you shouldn't draft around need here especially with the first overall pick. They must've sniffed something out they didn't like in Gordon and Palacios to go and get another SS. I just want to get this kid on the first flight to Nashville, then private puddle jumper to Elizabethton where he can battle another highly touted SS in Wander Javier for the starting spot. -

Article: Twins Select Royce Lewis First Overall
jrod23 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bleacher Report says McKay passed on an offer to be the number one overall pick. Can't stand when players do this without playing a single professional inning. If it's entitlement why he turned it down, shame on him. If it's because we wanted him as a pitcher and he wanted to be 1B, then that's different. I'm assuming he goes to E-Town to start and bringing him to Cedar Rapids by the end of the season. That would put him two years behind Gordon. Please tell me this isn't a justification to possibly trading Gordon. -
Article: Twins Daily Mock Draft
jrod23 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like what Lavelle was saying today on the FAN. If they pick McKay, his arm is probably going to get shut down anyway for the year. Let him go down to E-Town and let us get a good gauge as to where he's at as a hitter and at first. Maybe do a spot out of the bullpen here or there to keep him in tune from the rubber as well. I'd love Hunter Greene, but he'd take what many people are out of right now, and that's PATIENCE. We wouldn't see him in the pros for more than likely another 3 years minimum. Where as if McKay is truly that no.1 overall caliber and out of college, we'd possibly get to see him around 2019. That's if he progresses enough in building up to 150+ innings. When it's all said and done, it's not the NBA. It's not the NFL. The development of arm strength for pitchers is so beyond my realm of comprehension, I wouldn't know where to begin. I just really really REALLY don't want a 1-1 bust. That's where I'd love Greene. -
What stretch to sell magazines. Babe Ruth & LeBron James, Noah & A-Rod? Pump the breaks LEE JENKINS!!! That being said, sounds like the kid's got a great head on his shoulders. I'm good with either, but McKay could be around sooner and help this generation of players when they come to prime. I like them both. Heart says Greene, but McKay's legit. I'd like to know the extensive build up and come down regiment pitchers follow. It almost seems like two completely different sports played by pitchers and position players. I'll always wonder why it can't be done.

That all seems about right. I'll give credit to Mitch Kranson, Chris Paul, and LaMonte Wade too. Paul and Kranson have been hitting very well all April. LaMonte took about 2 weeks to figure out some things, but since then, he's been on a run. Love the fact they took the more aggressive approach with him. Surprise when I saw Gordon only has scored 10 times. Seems like every time I get the notification Chattanooga scores, it's always Gordon being plated. All I have to say about Palacios is WOW. What a run. Keep riding it out.
