  1. As far as hopes and dreams go, perhaps Dustin Pedroia is what we should be comparing Rosario to.
  2. It turned out to be a good trade, but the Twins did swap hard throwing Bullock for noodle armed Diamond. I also doubt Wimmers change up will be any more of an "out" pitch than it was for Brad Radke. The Twins have been drafting harder throwers for the last few years but it really didn't seem to be an organizational mandate until last year's draft. Why else was every draft prognosticator able to correctly peg Alex Wimmers going to the Twins in 2010 even though they did not pick until #21? Even though Wimmers was thought of as close to MLB ready, none of the 20 teams ahead of the Twins thought he was worth the pick because he had very little upside due to his non-dominating stuff. Yet everyone correctly said he was going to be drafted by our favorite team, simply because their pitching philosophy was painted on their forehead for all to see.
  3. Ha, yup I read that and thought, "How in the hell did any other Twins pitchers get promoted in the last decade?"
  4. Berrios at Ft. Myers would be awesome to see but can anyone think of any HS arm who has skipped low A for the Twins? I don't know that they have had any HS starters even pitch only half a season. If he managed to get on the same trajectory as Sano and Rosario, that arbitration/free agency group could get pricey. If the Twins do manage to hit on a good percentage of these prospects, I hope they don't get too comfortable with their $50-$80 million payroll and forget that they are capable of paying these guys up to a $120 million budget.
  5. I like Bruno, but isn't he just going to block Parmelee in RF to start the season and then Arcia when he's ready? Steinbach has been an All-Star in the past but is he going to take Butera's 3rd catcher gig or is the team going to roll with four of them this year? These guys are probably an upgrade, but they are getting a little old.
  6. All the more reason to hang on to Morneau if the Twins can't get similar value. He'd likely be worthy of a qualifying offer.
  7. Slow promotion or not, did anyone notice that Rosario is KLaw's top 2B? Higher than DeShields jr. and Wong.
  8. Looks like the list will come out tomorrow.
  9. This seems quite strange, but an anonymous MLB team is advertising an internship through a posted Fangraphs article. Job Listing: Major League Team Internship | FanGraphs Baseball In the comments below, Dave Cameron makes it clear this is legit. If this was the Twins, does it mean their single advanced metrics intern has quit?
  10. Yeah, definitely weighted heavily toward last years crop which is probably due to somewhat of an amature blogger who got really into this kind of thing last year. Strangely Zunino was probably ranked appropriately but four others from the class were ranked ahead of him dispite Zunino reaching AA and having a shot at making the MLB club this year.
  11. A true fan loves the team enough to question poor decisions and to demand better when better is attainable soley to establish an enjoable, winning and enduring product. A lackadaisical fan says Que sera, sera. That's the difference between tough love and enabling. How are your hackles?
  12. I like Carroll, in fact I think his superior OBP and the Twins lack of top of the order hitters means he should get one of the starting gigs. That being said, I was remembering a Fangraphs article I read a couple days ago. It was mostly about the likelyhood that Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano would regress this year. According to author Bill Petti, his new metric CLIFFORD shows that the top five players likely to regress are Granderson, Cano, Jordan Schaffer, Delmon Young and Jamey Carroll. Cano, Granderson, and Other CLIFFORD Candidates for 2013 | FanGraphs Baseball Considering he's 39, you probably don't need any kind of advanced statistics to show a decline is likely. I still ride him until he shows he's inferior to Florimon and Escobar. I have no hope of those two ever producing any kind of offense.
  13. So if the Twins were right to avoid Marcum because 28 other teams passed on him, wouldn't the same logic say they were wrong for signing Correia and Pelfrey? The other 29 teams passed on them too.
  14. Keep it up guys and Bachmann is going to spearpoint another effort to make stick banging illegal according to Minesota's constitiution.
  15. So pro-front office stick banging = effective Disappointment with the front office stick banging = ineffective Got it. That is one hard lesson to learn.
  16. There is plenty we can do about it. If we are vocal enough the dissatisfaction will spread. Reporters will ask the front office difficult questions they would rather not be honest about and fans will have less patience and will not tune in or show up to the stadium. The fans need to be the FIRST segment of Twins nation to hold the front office accountable. How much money and effort do you think they would put into the product if the fans blindly followed the team and said nothing? There is a reason the Cubs are such miserable losers.
  17. If you are going to compare Correia's contract to Sanchez's, then why not compare Correia's to Lannan, Jurrjains or Marcum? Those guys are getting paid in fewer dollars and years than Correia. Would that not make them a better proposition for the Twins under your theory?
  18. Well how about this one then. The Twins apologists are acting like the parents who are told their child has been sent home from school for misbehaving and they fly off the handle and blame the school. "My kid couldn't have done anything wrong! He's an angel! Are you calling him a liar?!?!" The rest of us are trying to hold our child accontable for thier mistakes hoping that they will not repeat them and they may develop into a functioning ball club er human being.
  19. What's wrong with left field? One of you is seriously confusing left field with right field.
  20. You calling Robert De Niro stupid? Or Al Capone? Clearly you didn't see the ensuing scene.
  21. Strange then that you give him credit for the farm system.
  22. Ryan only had a hand in two of those six players on the list, he made a nice trade for Meyer, (though some have argued he should have gotten more for Span) and he got Buxton because the Twins had the #2 overall pick, it would have been hard to pick a player at that point that would not have made the list. Bill Smith is actually behind most of the Twins top prospects, also including Rosario and Kepler.
  23. I hate the Roeneke pick for the pen over upside guys like Wood or Pressly. That would have been like last year, if the Twins had only one open spot and they gave it to zero potential Jeff Gray instead of hard thrower with upside Jared Burton.
  24. Late last decade the Twins had Baker, Slowey, Perkins, Blackburn, Garza and Liriano as rotation options. For most of that time they neglected free agent starting pitching because the spots appeared all locked up. I'd hate for the team to have any excuse to ignore pitching upgrades simply because in 2014, Gibson, Hendricks and Diamond are locks along with Correia and Saunders simply because they are already under contract. Saunders signed for 2014 should not be a concern when considering free agent pitching, but we've seen this club overlook free agents in the past because all five spots were "locked."
  25. My issue with signing Saunders to multiple years mostly has to do with the fact that the front office could use it as an excuse to neglect the free agent pitching markent next off season. Though the 2014 pitching crop doesn't look strong at the moment, things could change. If there is a decent chance that the Twins will point to Saunders' salary and roster spot and say they can't afford the space or the money when there is a legit better option on the market who the Twins had a shot at snagging, I don't want Saunders. I realize that neather salary or roster spots should be a concern, but I don't want the front office to have any excuses for neglecting the rotation next year either. Additionally, I'd hate for the Twins to sign Saunders and have the front office crow about how well they did with free agency this off season. Signing another back-of-the rotation starter is not impressive and I'd hate for the front office to pat themselves on the back about doing so. They need to clean house and in my opinion, their inactivity is the best shot at getting that accomplished. I'd hate for them to point to Saunders and say "We tried!" when in fact they clearly didn't.
