  1. No one wants to toss him aside, but he hasn't been a 4 WAR player annually. For his career, he's basically a 5 WAR player meaning 2014 was a severe outlier. Hopefully it's a trend but looking at Plouffe's minor and major league performance, there's a pretty good chance last year was the best season he's ever going to have, and it might have been the most non-descript 4 WAR season anyone's ever had. I think most of us believe ceiling trumps floor and we'd rather take Sano's high ceiling at 3B than Plouffe's high(ish) floor. No one's moving anywhere until Sano's ready for the MLB anyway, and from the way Ryan tells it, that'll be about the time Sano is registering for AARP.
  2. You'd think the Twins would have invented this tactic seeing as you then only have to pay the guy half of his salary.
  3. Tom Prince over Lenny Webster? Come one Nate, clearly you didn't put enough time or thought into this. I'd strongly suggest you go back and re-evaluate your last 50 or so selections.
  4. Because Tommy Herr made an 9 year old sob uncontrolably. My childhood immediately ended when I heard the news of that trade. Plus he was a club house cancer who apparently had to constantly read his Bible to find answers as to why God allowed him to be traded to the Twins.
  5. If that 17th place finish was a reflection of their revenue sharing or market size, then the Twins should have been getting some pretty sweet 1st round compensation picks the last few years. I might even prefer those prospects over free agents. Who'd we get? I can't wait to see them!
  6. There's lots of things St. Peter should not be allowed to do again.
  7. I'm at the point where I want to see the young guys play. The free agent market looks like crap this year, anyone of any value is going to get a QO, meaning even if I had a slight urge to go after a Melky Cabrera, (who will be out for an entire year next time he fails a PED test), I'm not giving up a draft pick for him and a likely four or five year commitment. I guess assuming the team doesn't make a magical trade, I don't want a high payroll this year. Don't get me wrong, the team absolutely put themselves in a position where spending money might not make a ton of sense right now and they should be absolutely gutted for this underhanded tactic. But now that we're here, I want to see the youngsters. Of course saying crap like Sano isn't going to get called up in 2015 goes against the idea of seeing the young guys play. F this BS. This organization can't get anything right these days. They're like the bad guys in a Sci Fi movie that end up dying becaue they lost control of the evil device/monster they created. Gardy got the vivid on-screen bloody death, the rest look like they're going to die in the giant fireball that is soon to blow up their lair.
  8. Actually the small towns generally have better service than the mid-sized markets. Damned if I can't find the article, but internet speeds were slower in Fargo, Sioux Falls, Duluth etc because those areas were too large to upgrade the infrustructute all at once and not large enough for the providers to make enough profit to compell them to do it.
  9. So having some speed and a good arm will make for a smooth transition to the OF? This guy's been playing 3B for four years now, learning the OF is not going to be his quickest way to the MLB.
  10. I'd like them to try to keep Iberra, Guerra, Salcedo, maybe Gonzalez and I suppose with the OF problems at the MLB level, Ortiz. At this point Beresford seems like another guy that will get in the way of positioning for Polanco, Rosario, Michael, Mejia and Goodrum. Though, it's still possible none of those guys actually have the potential we'd like, maybe Berseford is/will be better. I'm sure the club is most interested in keeping the catchers though, even considering neither Rodriguez or Rohlfing will likely ever get a chance to sniff the MLB.
  11. Hopefully the over reporting of craft beers and under reporting of crap beers gets the bandwagon jumpers off of the Miller/Bud/Coors ride.
  12. So to sum it up, people who drink Summit like to brag about it and the multitudes of people who drink Michelob shamefully drink in anonymity?
  13. So they know what NOT to do? (rimshot)
  14. If I have to play with the settings of my wireless service, I'm out. I nearly exhausted the extent of my technological knowldge when I typed the word modem. I had no idea there were settings for wireless access other than connect/disconnect.
  15. Well as I said, I like the potential of some of the moves he has made in his 2nd stint as GM, but the success of most of those moves are to be determined. If they all fail, he doesn't get to fall back only on his success from over a decade ago to save his job.
  16. I think that depends on where you live though. I don't have DSL and I have a reasonably new modum but everytime I try to stream a show from Netflix, my streaming gets interupted.
  17. Well from my experience, frustration levels with when the streaming suddenly stops and has to reload every 10 minutes is pretty unbearable.
  18. Well I'm reading this through your interpretation of the interview, but from the sound of it, Ryan stresses the need for a Latin "coach" while conveniently ducking the option of hiring a Latin manager. He did this at Gardy's press conference as well. It almost seems as though he doesn't believe a Hispanic manager is an option and instead thinks a token Hispanic coach will suffice. It might, but I really don't like the way he has twice modified his answer to make it sound like he'd really only be looking to add the Latin influence in the form of a coach.
  19. If Phil Hughes had pitched for any other manager, he almost surely would have gotten his bonus. I know one's natural reflex is to go to the pen early when watching Twins starters, but Hughes had the best season any Twins starter had since Santana and he couldn't get through 210 innings. Instead he chose to go to the soft-tossers in the pen time and time again. Gardy also doesn't seem to understand that it's not a great idea to bring in the high contact, low strikeout arms when there's a guy on third and less than two outs. Seems pretty elementary to leave Alex Burnett, Matt Guerrier and Jared Burton in the pen with a runner on third and only one out.
  20. It's a good discusion topic. Nothing wrong with the post. And I like seeing Cederoth, he was my pick to shoot up the draft boards this time last year. He didn't but I like that the Twins took him and his killer heater.
  21. Burdi and Zach Jones? Or is it a backhanded compliment and they say Alex Meyer? Thanks for the link, but I vowed long ago never to read another Bleacher Report.
