  1. Probably not popular with the Nats either. Even losing Ian Desmond, they still have lots of options for the middle infield and will need to find playing time for Anthony Rendon, Trea Turner, Yunel Escobar and Danny Espinosa. I don't know that they have much in the way of catching depth to replace Ramos either.
  2. Good read, and spot on. I've been guilty of using high velocity/high strikeouts interchangeably though while they are often closely related, they are not always. Either way, I agree, the Twins can make all the noise they want in the regular season, but they're not taking home the trophy until they reasses the value of a strikeout.
  3. I really don't think the W/L is weighed very heavily by voters since Bartolo Colon's now infamous winning of the award over Johan Santana. Felix Hernandez won the award with 13 Wins and the whole narrative pre-award was about if voters would ignore the Wins/Losses; they did. Lincecum, Grienke and Kershaw have all won recently with less than ideal Win totals. I think the voters have earned at least this benefit of the doubt by now. Wins/Losses do not appear to be a factor any more.
  4. This sounds all positive to me. It seems dire and bleak to us because it's news to us, but surely he didn't recently develop this problem. It's probably been a lot of dark times for him. Good for him seeing some daylight.
  5. What's the goal? This team hasn't had a consistently average SS in decades. Wasn't everyone's hope that the Santana, Polanco or Gordon would emerge and be a .750 OPS kind of guy and solidify the position for years to come? The team lucked out and found Escobar when no one was looking. I can't imagine people seriously expect one of those guys to put up better numbers than Escobar has the past two seasons. Anyone who is, is looking a gift horse in the mouth and hoping for a long shot. Those guys might be good, but it's still unlikely those guys put up the kind of offensive number some seem to expect. Don't extend him yet, but at this point, this team is making a huge mistake if Escobar isn't long-term option #1 until he proves his last two years were a fluke.
  6. Lets see something memorable.
  7. Kepler should finally get a start tomorrow.
  8. I'm not really in favor of extensions for these guys. On the other hand, Escobar's lack of track record might make an extension pretty cheap. If he does in a full season what he just did in two half seasons, any chance at a reasonable deal will be gone simply because he's a shortstop. I'm good going year-to-year, though it absolutely should not be because the team thinks upgrades are on the way. As mentioned, the Twins history with SS's is terrible, the odds that anyone in the pipeline is better than Escobar is slim, even if Escobar ends up being merely average.
  9. Not a fan of another aging pitcher like Shields, but sinker-ballers like Gibson sadly tend to have only a small window of effectiveness, so I would look to move him while he has good value.
  10. Not sure there was much retro there. I certainly spect'd at the time.
  11. I wonder why they didn't go to Cotts if they needed a lefty.
  12. Seems like a peculiar pitching change. I thought Santana was in a groove and simply gave up a lucky lob shot.
  13. Right, probably won't be a lot of consensus this year. My gut tells me Hinch will win due to the Astros previous reputation. It almost always goes to the manager of the most surprising team, whether the manager had anything to do with the season or not.
  14. I saw that video once but had to quickly turn off the TV when my wife walked in the room.
  15. I nearly pressed submit on a post declaring my trust in Boyer is greater than Perkins. Thank you Perk for letting me de-commit from that frightful thought.
  16. I agree. I didn't stop acting like an idiot teenager (when I was 25) because adults were yelling at me all the time, I stopped because I saw how other adults functioned in this world and realized how annoying teenagers were. The kid walking down the street with his pants half-way down his butt looks like a moron, the old guy screaming at him to pull them up looks even worse, and because he's making a big deal out of such a trivial offense, now his motives are going to be questioned.
  17. If I had a coworker come to my cube, loudly brag about how awesome he is and do a silly dance, I wouldn't berate him in front of the whole office, I would let him make his scene thus indicating to the rest of the audience that there was only one idiot involved in the situation. Every time we see this occur in the real world, the "victim" is always the one who looks the worst. If this was a road rage incident where a cut off driver followed home and screamed at the perpetrator, I doubt there would be much debate that this is a move based on poor impulse control and rooted in ridiculous vengeance. These ballplayers are supposed to be professionals, I don't understand how the Twins yelling back at an opposing player who is causing no harm other than to a few fragile egos is any different. Letting it appear that it doesn't bother you is easily the most face saving decision.
  18. Well who's bullpen are we talking about?
  19. If we all could survive Junior High and High School where this kind of nonsense occurred regularly, we can probably put up with it on a much less frequent basis now. This surely can't be more than an event that a normal human being should exert any more energy on than rolling their eyes.
  20. I don't see why Francona should have to apologize for the actions of one of his players. He flipped his bat? Who cares, all I care about is the scoreboard, if the Twins want to get upset, get upset about that. It's like teams complaining about the Patriots running up the score. If you don't like it, stop them from doing it. And so what if he was showing up the Twins, the Twins just ended Cleveland's playoff hopes three hours prior, and now the guy had a chance to really put a hurt on the Twins playoff chances. If the roles had been reversed, plenty of us would be thrilled to stick it to the team that just ended our season. I think showboating is juvenile, but I think getting upset about it is even more juvenile. I'd prefer my team acted like grounded adults tend to act when they encounter misbehaving children, ignore them, or at worst, calmly tell them that they are making a fool of themselves. Besides, doesn't Torii Hunter flip his bat every single time he hits a HR or even thinks he hit a HR?
  21. Hunter gave a pretty sour look as May walked past him during that interview. Did May do something to Hunter that would have had HR talking to us at our everyday jobs?
  22. Ok, I don't trust Boyer and Fien, but it's clear they are #2 and #3 on Molitor's list of favorite guys in the pen. Why are they pitching in a game with a healthy lead? Can't he imagine a scenario where he'll have to rely on his pen in game two?
  23. OK, get another run and then start Project Preserve the Pen. Unless Cleveland gets within two, only Gibson or the garbage-time pitchers the rest of the game.
  24. Forget 2016, Molitor can have Hunter until 2020 now.** **I reserve the right to withdraw my knee-jerk reaction at any time.
  25. "That said, I feel like an optimist today and will make an Unsubstantiated Prediction: two of Minnesota's starters will get hurt in spring training next year," What the heck Sickles!? Some things you just think, but should never say out loud. Cheering for injuries is one of them.
