  1. Wow a Forbes article about the Twins and I don't think the name Pohlad was dropped once. The article mostly seemed to be about batting average and HR, so it's hard to see this as an in depth piece. I do agree too though that the Twins need to get much better at getting on base. Maybe super prospect Daniel Ortiz will help with that?
  2. The 40-man conundrum is all the more reason to actively seek out deals where the Twins sell two or three (or more) players for one or two guys. That said, you have to feel for Trevor Plouffe as an actual person. Clearly this move isn't the best news for the prospects of continuing his Twins career, however it still isn't any concrete evidence of his departure. With likely no resolution imminent, Trevor likely will be worrying about what is next for him and his family for some time. Hopefully this gets resolved before the holidays.
  3. Let's stick with the International free agents and go get Yaisel Sierra now. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/yaisel-sierra-latest-top-prospect-leave-cuba/
  4. That swing sure looks like it takes some inspiration from Jose Bautista. I commend the aggressiveness, even if it doesn't work out. You can hide a bad offensive contract better than a bad pitching contract at least.
  5. That's the assumption, but he's also listed as 6'1" and 194 lbs, so at least these blind measurements don't preclude him from playing any particular position. Heck, he's smaller than Troy Tulowitzki, maybe they can stick him at SS.
  6. The strikeouts initially pushed me away considering it's already a huge problem with this club and we just saw the Royals win the WS with a wholly unimpressive lineup save for their collective lack of strikeouts. I guess this team might as well try and go full Earl Weaver on this lineup now.
  7. Can I submit a question for the annual Terry Ryan Q&A for the 2017 offseason handbook? Q: How did you arrive at the $12.85M figure for the Byung-Ho Park posting fee?
  8. Am I a hypocrite for posting luke-warm interest in this guy on page one followed by genuine excitement that the Twins actually won the bidding on page four?
  9. I think Plouffe is underrated and could be of good value to other teams, but he'd be a much better fit for a stout offense that could see him bat 7th or so. The Twins still have some work to do to beef up the OBP of the middle of their lineup. Sano can't be the only guy in the heart of the lineup who can get on base.
  10. Not the White Sox. Brewers, Twins ,Cubs or Reds. Cubs and Reds make no sense unless he can play OF.
  11. Of the five, the Brewers make the most sense. But little of this makes sense.
  12. One of 8 teams per MLBTRs unofficial tracker.
  13. Twins are one of 11 possible teams now. If by some chance it was the Twins, I'm totally going to consider my post two above this a call. Just an FYI .
  14. Welcome aboard and great topic. It has been discussed, mostly in regards to whether Gray is actually an ace. Personally, I don't think he misses enough bats, which is already a problem in this team. If the Twins are going to give up some painful prospects I'd hope it would be for someone who does. I'd prefer to target a Cleveland or NYM starter if we're going this route.
  15. But mostly, Ryan had stepped away and ceded responsibity to Rob Anthony at that time, and it's pretty fair to speculate that he'd acquiesce to the wishes of the more experienced manager. Either way, Ryan was not in charge when Kubel and Bartlett made the 25-man.
  16. 24 hours and no leaks on who won the bid? Maybe it really is the Twins, few teams seem to be able to keep the lid on internal activity like our favorite team. Joking. Mostly.
  17. In which case the Twins better be prepared to take back Cuddyer and his unpleasant contract too. I'd love to trade for a Mets starter, any of them, but their demands would no doubt be painful.
  18. I don't care about the money, I care about the roster spots and the inflexibility of not being able to ditch these guys. If I thought management would eat two years of sizable contracts I wouldn't be concerned. Not that I don't blame the management as I don't think any team eats more than one year of a large long term deal. So what happens if the Twins don't do well in 2016? These guys can't be sold off to restock, does the team just go right back out there again and sign more vets to take up roster spots?
  19. I'll take any of them on a minor league deal, just so long as Rob Anthony and Ron Gardenhire aren't making the 25-man decisions this spring. I'd really like to find a fit for Span actually on a short term deal, but I don't think there is one, and I think Span still gets a long(ish) term deal. This team could really use a guy at the top of the lineup to get on base as Dozier on-base skills aren't ideal for leadoff and Hicks and Buxton still look pretty questionable. But the Twins need another left handed hitting OF about as much as they need goalie.
  20. Gutierrez, Hunt and Bashore weren't safe picks. The hope on those guys were that they'd be the mid-high 90s fireballers this team had never been able to find. I have no problem gambling on strikeout pitchers as long as this team is lacking them. It was the Wimmers, Michaels and Gibson 1st round picks that were supposed to be fairly safe.
  21. I'm not going to defend that too much, but they haven't had a sup pick in four years. I also don't really have too many criticisms of the picks because when they regularly had those picks, the Twins often went conservative with the 1st pick and then went for upside with the supplemental pick, they were all basically a HS kid or a hard throwing college guy with some control concerns. I'm a big fan of drafting upside over safety. Lookey here, I guess I did defend that too much.
  22. Right, I don't mind if people write off Harrison, the odds of him making it are looking dimmer each year, but he has the same consistent 12% walk rate each year which is very rare for a guy who's not hitting for power or average. This guy looks like he knows how to work an at bat, which seems to be one of the rarest talents for minor leaguers, particularly Twins minor leagures. He is giving pitchers no reason to pitch around him, yet he's still getting them to put him on base regularly. There's still hope. Also, he has never repeated a level once yet, he's been a one-level-a-year guy in his four years in the system.
  23. Kyle Lohse too is available. Just an observation, don't kill the messenger!
  24. Interesting list, he has Walker higher than I'd guess most national guys and obviously Palcios is no longer an unknown to those outside of Twins fandom. Personally, I'm just waiting for Lewis Thorpe to regain his steam. I don't know his timeline for throwing this year but my prediction is that he'll be at the top of the list this time next year if Buxton, Berrios and Kepler graduate.
  25. Is that the can of worms about how Torii isn't a good teammate? Or the can of worms about how Morneau was probably in town to hammer out the framework of his new two year deal?
