  1. Well if you're still trying to sell the team, saying all of this is probably worse than all the stupid things Joe said. Sign me up and take my 2B please!!!! Which makes me think the owners already know how they are going to work the CBA to make it uber profitable. They will absolutely attempt to screw the players over, TBD if that means we'll actually have a competitive model where the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers no longer have an insurmountable competitive advantage. The fans will win if there is a middle ground; a salary ceiling within reasonable distance to a salary floor.
  2. Right, Miami, NYJ, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Indy, LV and Arizona will all need QBs and Carolina, NO and even our Vikings would perhaps be open to it if there were enough to go around. Mac Jones will be the hot name in trades and Daniel Jones probably goes back to Indy. But there's not five NFL ready QBs in this draft to fill the other spots, so then you got Murray, Tua and then start getting into the backups who got spot starts this year. NFL expansion should NEVER happen.
  3. So Joe did push payroll to it's all time high in his first offseason, but then promptly dropped it after that. He was never, ever in any way qualified for the job. Seemed like the family was just letting the excited kid have his fun while they were trying to sell. So I'm guessing he got to play emperor but the rest of the family was actually making the decisions and letting him do the speaking. And he spoke some really, really boneheaded things. So that's my guess as to the switch. The new investors want the face of the Twins to stop running his mouth at the worst possible times. I'd guess we don't hear much from Tom until the team is about to be sold for real.
  4. Sorry, third post in a row. I don't know all the ins and outs of NFL contracts and trades but I wonder if a Tua for Kyler Murray trade could work. Tua would be easier to cut after ONE more year and would be way better than Murray at getting Harrison and McBride the ball. He might be OK as a bridge QB while they likely transition to a new HC. Meanwhile, Murray likely needs TWO years before he's easier to cut, but he's still mobile and might be a really good compliment to a team that emphasizes running the ball.
  5. Also, I'm predicting Mike McCarthy lands in Miami. And Miami and Pittsburgh will be the two teams rumored to be trading for Mac Jones. Those teams will draft too low to pick a QB in the draft and SF will try to avoid trading him in the NFC. And both teams will care more about floor than ceiling.
  6. Since Miami will be looking for a new GM and likely HC, I'll bet they eat the money and set him free. He wouldn't be among my top choices for the vet QB in Minnesota next year, but I'd probably like him better than most fans. Historically he does like to chuck it down field, which I do want. So he'd be ahead of guys like Marriota and Garoppolo and Bridgewater for me.
  7. If anything, the current political climate is even MORE supportive of the billionaires colluding and being unjustly vengeful yet still getting away with it. My guess is Flores stays blackballed from a HC job until a judge has the guts to pick up the case and do the right thing. Also, Mike Brown of the Bengals is only ridging the gravy train the other owners let him board. He doesn't care about fans or the players or winning, I don't see him rocking the boat. He'll again hire an inexperienced HC that he can pay the least amount of money to. However there are a couple of long established owners who could buck the system, the Maras and the Rooneys. The Maras are obviously looking for a new HC and while I'm guessing Pittsburgh's hot streak has saved Tomlin's job, he's never been on a hotter seat.
  8. *******Moderator Note****** These responses are getting needlessly personal. Stick to the topic and stop with the name calling.
  9. This is insane. Paying off non-baseball debts and the other owners are approving this many cooks in the kitchen? There has to be an implied deal that the Pohlads and all these private equity groups are going to sell after the CBA. No way these INVESTMENT groups are paying off this debt unless they plan for a quick flip and a good ROI.
  10. Really don't like that the Twins approach seems to heavily rely on fixing aging players from other clubs who've never made it in the league. That's seriously 35% of the offensive players on the 40-man roster. And that's AFTER McCusker asked for his release.
  11. Clemens CANNOT get on base, even in his breakout year. Any perceived production from him last year is entirely unsustainable. Bell isn't very good, but Clemens is and will always be a AAAA player. At best.
  12. I've been saying for quite some time that most of the top end QBs I'd probably dislike if I were to hang out with them. I'm quite confident McCarthy would find himself in that category for me, should he ever be an elite QB. And it's a trade off I'd gladly embrace. But I do have to say, if you're NOT a top end QB and you have those qualities, I don't think they'll go over well or the guy will last in the league long. I'd guess fans, players and coaches are going to see those traits as very, very unearned.
  13. Yes, and by a mile. Pretty much everybody is better than Kody Clemens. Nobody should buy into a fluke season by a 29-year-old, particularly when that fluke season had a .281 OBP. That doesn't come close to entering an acceptable range for a MLB player. He was last season's Michael A Taylor, he's going to normalize back to the mean real fast. You just can't be a meaningful player if you can't get on base in this league.
  14. I might have lost my mind if they'd signed him. Because it wouldn't have been because he's all that good, it would have been the lowest and most obvious fan pandering this club has ever dabbled in. Thank god they didn't think of it. Even at his peak Arraez was over adored because of the batting titles; I'm not interested in having to rehash those contentious arguments about the merits of a singles-filled batting average all season long.
  15. He's better than Clemens and Julien, but hasn't had an OPS over .750 in four years. I really hope just because he's a veteran and because he was a free agent signing, that they don't automatically pencil him into the middle of the order. Can't we aim a bit higher than that? Buxton, Keaschall, Jeffers, hopefully Lewis and even Wallner are probably better suited for the top half of the lineup. And that's presuming no other free agents, trades or improvements from the existing players. But yeah, the team is probably going to act like this was a big-time free agent signing and treat it as such line-up wise.
  16. Relegation seems like a great idea, but there always seems to be a power 5 team under suspension. There would be zero justification for a school like Michigan not be relegated, however, since the same people are in charge and all they care about is the money, they'll also never relegate a Michigan.
  17. This doesn't excite me, but I can't imagine there was going to be any first baseman signing that was going to be a boon to the Twins sprint speed. And I care about the arm strength of a first baseman slightly more than I care about his cribbage skills.
  18. "signing a veteran slugger to play first base and shore up an inconsistent offense." Isn't Josh Bell notorious for being inconsistent? Unpredictable slumps is pretty standard for Twins hitters though, so I guess it must be a trait they've identified and prefer? I much prefer him over Clemens, so I guess that's progress.
  19. And when I complain about it in May, you can all forget I said this.
  20. I wanted a top pick if this team wasn't going to compete. That ship already sailed though so I guess sure, I'll trade three draft slots to screw over Dallas. Yeah, I'm that petty.
  21. They can't even TRY to draw them offsides?!?! That non-play stunk of them not trusting McCarthy to not make the offense false start.
  22. Or they weren't worried about the Vikings offense in a late game situation. This is looking like the easiest three and out all game. And what can KOC do here? He's going to get ripped if he doesn't run it to waste time/TOs and he'll get ripped if JMac throws another bad pass.
  23. Anyone know how to make those AI videos? I'd love to see one of John Randle pinning JJ McCarthy down and scrubbing that stupid eye black off of his face.
  24. I think that means he's not the guy. I don't think top end QBs have those things get in their head and then somehow grow out of it.
  25. 1930's football. I guess they just needed to use the fullback.
