  1. You're speaking for all fans now? I missed the vote. Long time vets are a nice comforting blanket to stoke nostalgia and sentimentality. At this point, I'm sentimental for championships, not the players though. Once we get a championship here, then I'll be nostalgic for the players, like I am with Tom Brunanski, Greg Gagne and Chili Davis. Until then, Kepler has had plenty of chances to carry this team through the post season but hasn't, try someone else.
  2. Does a full repair take him out for the season? I was thinking it was only a couple months.
  3. Of course he is. Bad news, but honestly it probably doesn't change much. They were likely going to use kid gloves with him anyway. Surgery sounds scary, but this one typically isn't that bad. Unless it's a bad tear, he'll probably be back early into the season.
  4. There hasn't been a four team playoff in 30 years. Seems like just yesterday to me too, but baseball played in those days was a completely different game than it is now.
  5. Kiriloff is on the 60-day-IL, he won't impact this decision. There's lots of options I don't mind cutting, but if Blewitt is on the roster for a full four game series that included a double header and he still doesn't get used why is he on the team to begin with with?
  6. Based on the article photo, the most impressive thing about Matthews is that he has top end precision while throwing with his eyes closed! Maybe he's the offspring of Daredevil and Hawkeye?
  7. Obviously they are all a gamble, but the more bets you are able to place, the more likely one of them will payout.
  8. Not looking forward to Blewett, but honestly, I'd rather FIND the Jay Jacksons and Justin Topas rather than trade for them or sign them after their unexpected fluke season. He looks pretty much the same as those two.
  9. The crow population is going to be put on the endangered species list after our TD community is finished.
  10. Still, winners shop on 5th Avenue, losers shop at K-Mart, and we all know the Twins would have been browsing Blue Light Specials even if they were going to be buyers.
  11. Dang, I wish I would have thought to ask. Or at least thought to ask if he'd prefer I pay him in non-perishable canned goods instead of actual money.
  12. I'll take Dobnak over my Uber driver last weekend. Guy kept trying to get me to subscribe to his podcast about the literal Apocalypse. He swore the end times were here and if I wasn't already right with God, it was too late.
  13. Even with the sketchy rotation situation, at this point I put Paddack in the pen. Behind Matthews. Behind Varland even. I don't think he can hold up as a starter.
  14. I'm not complaining, the Twins went nearly two years without losing a starting pitcher of consequence, that was a pretty dang good run. The gripe shouldn't be that the team didn't have starting pitching depth, the gripe should be that Paddock and Desclafani WEREN'T the pitching depth. Both of them had no business being considered rotation pieces for a team coming off their first playoff win in two decades. Maybe one for the 5th/swing spot, but not both.
  15. For sure. I doubt they'll move him from the rotation at this point of the season now with Ryan out.
  16. Looking at his splits, the only team he terrorized more than the Twins was the Royals. Alas, the Royals are done with the White Sox too so he can't help us out there.
  17. Les was the first autograph I got. He was jogging the outfield and I reached around the plexiglass at the foul pole to hand him a baseball card. Crazy he only pitched two season in the majors. He was actually better in 1988 than 1987 but didn't get a shot in 1989 even with Blyleven leaving and Viola getting traded mid season.
  18. I'm not putting much hope in Topa; injured, older and from another organization. The Twins are whiffing on this kind of player profile just about every time. Call me a weirdo, but they've been nailing the internal questionable-starter-turned-reliever profile the last several years. I'd have more faith in Winder turning into an asset. Not a ton of faith, just more faith.
  19. They made this move too late, we're done with the Sox and Sizemore used to destroy the Twins!
  20. Here's the problem with your argument though. Sure, the Twins offense needs to pick it up, but in the playoffs, you basically scrap the back of your rotation. Doesn't matter if it's Chris Paddock, Michael Lorenzen or Walter Johnson; they're a reliever at best in the post season. Always improve the front of the rotation. Top end starters have a shot at making up for bats who may take a day off.
  21. 'Higher payroll' surely correlates to 'best players'. A team like the Twins can (and has) gotten around that correlation by trading for good players while they were still affordable.
  22. *******Moderator Note****** Anyone trying to steer the game threads towards politics will be banned from posting in them.
  23. THE favorite? Rarely. One of the top four or five favorites? Nearly every time. The Twins need to stop being satisfied going into the playoffs as an underdog. Makes for cute Hollywood sports movies, but sucks for winning championships.
  24. Not that I’d want it as I’m a Vikings fan, but it should be more. Half season probably. Passed out at the wheel isn’t even in the same hemisphere of irresponsibility as blowing say an .085. Which is still unacceptable.
