  1. I too am excited about the call up, and I'll put the matter to rest unless repercussions arise. I also understand the frustration with a few complaints after everyone finally got what they wished for, but it was only a few complaints. I think those complaining about the complainers are using this new, somewhat trivial carping to invalidate the original issue. These new complaints, even if trivial, do not mean those that criticized the front office for the delayed promotion were in the wrong.
  2. We could ask the front office defenders the same thing. Will they enjoy his success or use it to attack and whine about the fans who do not defend the front office? Don't think your complaints are any less grating to those who disagree with you.
  3. I think you give your sausage too much credit.
  4. So Costner's in the booth and For the Love of the Game is the baseball movie we decided to ask him about? Interesting. Isn't that like sitting with Robert De Niro and ask him quesitons about Meet the Parents?
  5. Swarzak likely would have gotten consideration had he not pitched yesterday.
  6. Can't fault anyone for DL mismanagement then. The DL is retroactive to Wednesday though, I wasn't aware they could do that when they publicly disclose the injury happened after that date.
  7. In three games since the All-Star break Hicks has gone 6-15 with 4 more RBI. He has also struck out four times. Hopefully a promotion is on the horizon but at the moment he has nowhere to play at Ft. Myers as Kennys Vargas is still waiting on his promotion as well.
  8. Considering our knowledge of the timing, Hernandez is a practical choice. However, when did Pelfrey hurt his back exactly? He pitched five days ago, are we to assume he hurt himself getting out of bed this morning?
  9. Ryan first said 130-140, then said the number wasn't firm. From my perspective, 130-140 is not a firm number and neither statement contradicted each other.
  10. Oh I think you missunderstand me. The timing is poor because Ryan has had three months to take a road trip to CR to see the team's 1st round pick last year and top prospect and he has failed to do so. Perhaps I'm wrong and these guys won't get bumped up after their "interview", but it now seems that these young men have not gotten a promotion simply because Ryan decided he wanted to see them for himself but failed to do so in a timely manner.
  11. If it is not essential that the GM sees the A-list prospects play, why would he need to bother with a first hand evaluation before these young men can qualify for a promotion?
  12. So are none of the Kernals getting promoted because Ryan wants to see them all in person first? So he didn't go to CR before the All-Star break beause he was busy with the draft but made a road trip to Eastern WI instead? If that's the case I think the timing is poor especially considering he states he relies on his scouts and he does very little of that any longer.
  13. I know it, I don't believe in Bigfoot, Atlantis or a government induced 911 attack but I do believe that many wealthy business mens' primary goal is to become more wealthy. All those things just seem like equally large leaps of logic but I can't help my gullibility on that last one.
  14. Well to be fair, I'm pretty consistant, I basically just have one fall-man.
  15. Ha, this is some active negativity today! Seems to me much more than usual. I've been party to it I'm afraid though I think much of it has justifiable roots. This organization needs to announce a bunch of FSL promotions ASAP to steer us in a different direction and restore some comradery.
  16. Does it seem to anyone else that Bowden spitballs more unsubstantiated trade ideas than anyone else who has access to national media outlets? I'm more than happy people are starting to talk about trades but Bowden never seems to have anything to play with but a few ideas the voices in his head whisper.
  17. Is it just TR you are skeptical about being involved in profiteering? Because threatening to kill the club in order to get a 66% tax payer funded facility and then marking up stadium prices to match those that high revenue clubs charge while putting a product on the field equivilant to low revenue clubs seems like pretty strong evidence of profiteering to me. Ryan may not have been involved a majority of the process but he is certainly complicit in the last part.
  18. I assume people's dislike for PA has much to do with his homerish ways. Of course his homerish ways endears him to those he is being a homer too which likely gives him access others do not recieve. I tend to find PA's inside information genuine regardless of the sentimenality associated with it.
  19. I've stated that it didn't appear Ryan had a gameplan in other threads but not here. I said it in referrence to the fact that it seems the roster placements (or lack-there-of) of the young players and their repeated demotions and recalls, DFA's and releases seems like the team is flying by the seat of there pants. Sometimes it's needed, but in many cases it seems like a lack of foresight. Perhaps it's a short term issue, but if this ambiguous gameplan continues when all the young prospects are ready, there are going to be some major development and roster issues. They need to prepare the roster accordingly and have a more solid outline: When Sano is at this stage of development, we need to look to do ??? with Trevor Plouffe. When Meyer is ready we need to organize the rotation to reflect ??? When Buxton is ready the outfield priority should be ??? If the rotation is reorganized with strikeout pitchers the priority placed on defensive ability should be ??? This year's hectic and uneven usage of Hicks, Arcia, Permelee, Herrmann, Hendriks and Gibson indicate this is not currently happening.
  20. I can't disagree but the difference has been that those GM's have kept their jobs and succeeded because they adapted or instigated the changing landscape of baseball. Terry Ryan is still as stubbornly conservative as ever and seems aghast that anyone would imply the game has evolved. He refuses to recognize the value of pitchers, and he refuses to recognize the best attributes for pitchers in today's baseball involve missing bats. He stubbornly fields what is reported to be an extremely bare-bones statistical team and relies on what seems like a large scouting department. You can have both strong scouting and strong analytics, you don't have to choose one or the other. His roster management is suspect in terms of who gets promoted/demoted/DFA'd. Does anyone truely believe that Kyle Gibson would still be in AAA if one of those other GM's was in charge? Not me. If something stops working you need to change your approach. I'll acknowledge I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but it doesn't appear that a lot is changing. It often seems like they are just gearing up to take the same old approach. Baseball today is different than baseball 10 years ago, you need to adjust.
  21. Especially with the excitement of the draft still lingering this is always something fun to think about, but at some point the goal is for the Twins first pick to be #30. As 1991 demonstrated it certainly is possible to go from a top 5 pick to #30 but it's unlikely. At some point you likely have to methodically start increasing your win total. From the current standings, the Twins look to be drafting at #9 right now. I'd like a top 5 pick, but it would probably be better for the development of the young players at the MLB level that they don't get accustomed to losing.
  22. The reply is a harsher dig on Terry Ryan than I'd prefer to give but since you wanted to play this game: I wonder what the Twins would look like if they let Andrew Friedman, Brian Sabean, John Mozeliak, Dave Dombrowski, Frank Wren, John Daniels or Billy Beane run the organization.
  23. Your shouldn't block top prospects, particularly with a staff full of inconsistant AAAA pitchers. Next year if Sano and Rosario are ready, will they have to wait their turn simply because Plouffe and Dozier are playing adaquately? This shouldn't be a tough call, Ryan could pull a name out of a hat to see who Gibson replaces
  24. I agree the Twins should emulate the Cardinals but they aren't conservative. I can't think of any team that is successful on the field consistantly and conservative in as many aspects of the game that the Twins appear to be. Maybe the A's and Rays in terms of financial conservatism but that is due to those teams being in terrible financial situations. Those teams make up for it by not being conservative on the trade fronts. Those are wheeling and dealing GM's who have a proven track record when it comes to drafting and developing pitchers, who they later will have no qualms about agressively trading. I'm not in favor of trading away a bunch of prospects, but then the team needs to fill it's holes in free agency. Because there WILL be holes. Always.
  25. For nothing?! For nothing?! If not for that trade we would not have fan favorite Drew Butera. I'm not big on trading away the prospects, I'd rather the team predicted team needs better and filled the holes in free agency. Even so, there are times to make these trades like early this century when the Twins had outfield prospects everywhere with Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones as mainstays and Michael Cuddyer, Michael Restovich, Michael Ryan, Garrett Jones, Brian Buchanan, Dustin Mohr and Bobby Keilty all fighting for their chance to play. Ryan ended up making nice trades flipping Kielty for Shannon Stewart and Buchanan for Jason Bartlett. You'd think he would have realized he could keep dealing from his OF surplus but he didn't. Restovich was such a highly rated prospect and there was never going to be room for him. Considering what Buchanon and Kielty brought back, Restovich might have landed a really nice player.
