If a manager essentially refuses to use a reliever unless forced to, then that reliever shouldn't be on the roster. Today's bullpen usage doesn't allow for that. And it's pretty clear why Thornburg was a last resort.
Correct. Every team blows leads.
In the end, I still don't think Cleveland's run will be sustained, but they can certainly do some damage while they're on it.
Grasping defeat from the clutches of victory 3 times in a 5 game set is rather disheartening, to say the least.
Hell, grasping a losing series from the clutches of a sweep is even worse.
Gotta do something about the pen.
And the comment that you initially replied to was about the whole season. I'm not even disagreeing with you about today's game, but that wasn't even the point I was making with my initial post. And that point is still valid because it's been a problem all season long. It's not relegated to just today. Which is my point.
That's been a problem all season too.
The bullpen struggles have overshadowed the offensive struggles. They're both a pretty big problem. Bullpen is a bigger one though.
and I think they're at the point where some more radical ideas need to be implemented. The patchwork that they've been doing is past its expiration date. I know injuries have played into that, but what they're doing clearly isn't working anymore.
