  1. Sounds like Portland, where the Timbers sell out every game, have thousands of people on the wait list for season tickets, and everywhere you look, people are wearing Timbers scarves, t-shirts, hats and jerseys. The women's team, the Thorns, average 13,000 per game as well. Not sure which way MN will go with the MLS team. However, having grown up playing soccer in MN (with Manny Lagos among others) I suspect the team will have a lot of excitement for the first year or two, at a minimum. If they get supporters clubs going, like in Portland and Seattle, they will continue to do well, and if the team is good, they'll do even better. I remember going to Kicks games that were sold out in Met Stadium (40,000+) -- and that was well before soccer became such a popular sport in MN. So I think the chances are pretty good that the team will draw a lot of fans. Obviously, that doesn't mean the Twins can't also do well. I'm just saying that it will be additional competition. I truly hope that both franchises are selling out their stadiums in a couple of years. But as we all know, that means the Twins have to be good.
  2. If you have a family, and you go to one game every week or two, you might decide to go to a game that is packed, exciting, and the chosen sport of most kids.
  3. In my opinion, Joe's earned his money. He not only had some incredible underpaid seasons, he sold a lot of jerseys, and made a lot of Minnesotans proud. I'd rather he have the money than the owners. And I don't think he should be a scapegoat for why we can't spend money on other players. We have plenty of money to spend if we want to do so. Our FO has just chosen not to spend money on free agents.
  4. The free market for sports in Minnesota will be getting a bit more competitive with a new MLS team in a couple of years. This will compete more directly with the Twins than any of the other sports teams. The Twins will have to turn things around to attract fans who will have other options during the summer. Regardless of the competition, the Pohlads know that the value of their franchise and the potential profits from the franchise are directly related to how well the team does. We've had enough bad seasons recently to begin to actually erode the fan base below what would have previously been considered a base line for support. I hope they recognize that they need some substantial change in this organization to accomplish their goals as well as the goals of the fans.
  5. Okay, Mauer got an RBI. Can we stop talking about it now?
  6. Sounds like the consensus between Tigger and Hobbes is a Hobbesian choice.
  7. Molitor's probably embarrassed about his pinch hitting decision last night. Today he'll have better options.
  8. Dick's talking about "team execution"? Like John McKay said . . .
  9. Molitor must be feeling lucky after taking Centeno and Escobar out in one move, then seeing Suzuki and Nunez take knocks.
  10. Maybe the Indians will be interested in Kintzler as well. He's better against lefties.
  11. Kepler actually made that play look pretty slick.
  12. I agree that Mauer is too passive. However, isn't looking 3-0, then walking in front of Sano exactly what we want from anyone on this team? Just unfortunate Sano had a terrible AB, or we'd all have been very happy with Joe's patience.
  13. This guy can't throw strikes tonight, but we keep bailing him out by swinging at balls in the dirt.
  14. Mauer v Bauer. Sounds like an interview for Matt . . .?
