  1. I don't worry much about loosing some prospects. As a whole our Twins are quite young.
  2. I think the payroll is dependent on who is signed rather than part of some overall budget. The Pohlads have always been very hands off when it comes to what the FO does. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Twins sign some expensive free agent pitching. Ryan is on record saying that the Pohlads never told him how much to spend or not. I doubt it's any different with the new guys.
  3. Well he looked good on Sept. 30, 2017 in a game at Target Field.
  4. I don't get the Sano and weight thing. In pictures he looks very trim and appears to be in great shape. There are tons of photos of him. Google is our friend.
  5. If the Twins had a couple of plus .300 hitters, they could consider a low BA hitter with a high HR rate. Only 11 guys in the AL hit 300 or above. There isn't many 300 hitters around.
  6. I don't watch analytics. I watch the games.
  7. Twins president Jerry Bell once remarked the Eloise Pohlad—Carl’s wife, and undoubtedly the biggest Twins fan ever in the family—liked the team particularly because it was a family thing. The value of the Twins is chump change for the Pohlads. Billions make millions seem small.
  8. On more than one occasion Ryan said the Pohlads never told him not spend. Also the Twins are minuscule part of the Pohlad's holdings. The Pohlads are worth billions. Business wise there is no reason to own the Twins. They aren't doing it for the money so I figure they are doing it for fun.
  9. I think the Pohlads will spend whatever the FO guys want. I don't think money is an issue. Owning the Twins is a hobby for them not a business.
  10. Well they did get the team to the playoffs. That hasn't happened for years. Besides some of the staff have already been replaced.
  11. Why even ask this question? The players are probably going to get better as they mature. He managed a playoff team this year. It's not like there is a bunch of experienced managers looking for work. Who knows he might want to retire. He's at retirement age and baseball is a very time consuming business.
  12. Well, April, 2018 is only about 6 months away. 2017 was fun so maybe 2018 will be more fun.
  13. Tuesday's roster is only good for the WC game. It can be targeted specifically for the Yankees. Does the divisional roster stay the same through the rest of the playoffs or can it change for the WS?
  14. At least the Twins are fun to watch again. Sure there is room for improvement but don't forget they will have the 5th best record in the AL. That's better than 10 other teams.
  15. It sure is fun to listen to meaningful games at the tail end of September. It brings back fond memories.
  16. McCarthy: They can see what is in my recycling bins in my front yard. That's why I keep my recycle bin lid closed.
  17. @spinowner I agree. Mauer has been a terrific player for the Twins for many years. Without a doubt he is one of the few best players in MLB.
  18. I have no doubt that Joe will be in the HOF. He has very good numbers that match up well with current members. He has played terrific defense at both catcher and 1st base. He has also contributed to the community.
  19. I think Sano playing at 285 when he's 30 is a valid concern like Souhan writes. Athletes physical abilities begin to decline around the age of 26 or 27. He may do just fine. His experience may even make him better. However there aren't a lot of MLB players in their mid to late 30s. Besides the whole point is that according to Souhan some people in the Twins organization are concerned. They should be. Sano will be making millions and millions of dollars whether he can maintain a high level of performance or not.
  20. What's the big deal? Souhan is expressing concern that down the road Sano's weight may hinder his playing ability. I think that is a very valid concern. Playing at 285 isn't the same for a 30 year old as it is for a 24 year old. That's what I got from Souhan's articles.
  21. Why not? I say we keep him as long as he is doing well. It's not like we have too much good starting pitching.
  22. Thanks for this informative article. It's good to be reminded about the farm teams and players. The Twins are more than than just the guys at Target Field.
  23. It may depend on what's available, Sometimes the available players don't match up with the needs of the team.
