  1. Rochester is the minor league version of the Twins training staff -- it's a miracle that the entire team is not on the DL.
  2. After reading that article and others, I wonder whether it might make sense to see if he can become a #1 pitcher, then move him to another position if the pitching does not work out. 154 strikeouts in 81 innings seems great even in high school. And he was clutch -- pitched a complete game to win the state title, striking out 18 batters. The Twins are loaded with toolsy outfielders in the lower levels -- Hicks, Benson, Arcia, Morales, and Kepler. Why not take a year to explore whether Buxton could become the ace who they really need??? And I am not aware of any rule that would bar him from playing as a position player while he is trying to become a successful pitcher -- he is amazingly athletic and seems resilient enough to play in the field once or twice between starts.
  3. I suspect that the Twins will probably trade Liriano, although I am hoping that they will not do this unless he is pitching well and they can get a TOP starting pitching prospect in return. I suspect that some other team will get Wilson. Each of the rest of these will be lucky to be a decent #5 next year. I wish that the Twins had drafted better starting pitchers in recent years. It will be difficult to acquire a potential #1 by trade. If this season continues to tank, then there will be another high pick next year. I pray that there is a great starter available in the first round (preferably a college guy who can move up fast) and that the scouting is as good as it can be in later rounds.
  4. It would be nice if the Twins could benefit from this phenomena sometime.
  5. I think that many players on the team have given up in one way or another. The good news is that there should be no question about the Twins being sellers this year. Hopefully, Ryan will hold out for very favorable deals, and refuse any deals that are not great ones.
  6. Mauer is a large, heavily padded individual. Maybe he needs to clock the next punk like Weeks who comes at him. That might send a message to deter further incidents.
  7. That seems like a very valuable observation here. People are frustrated for good reason, but the Twins need to be building/preserving a core of good players.
  8. Here is a link to a slideshow at bleacher report about every team's all-time worst draft pick, and who they could have picked if they had been smarter and/or luckier. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1206829-2012-mlb-draft-every-mlb-teams-worst-draft-bust-of-all-time It's amazing how some seemingly "sure things" turned out to be terrible busts. I hope that Buxton does not fall into this category.
  9. Willingham is a proven MLB player who is having a good season. I am not saying that the Twins should trade him, but if they do then it should be to a team that places a high value on getting a high quality right handed power hitter. If the Pirates don't crave him, then there will be other contenders who will.
  10. If Plouffe does not get player of the month for June, it will not be pretty. Click on the image below to see what might happen.
  11. This is a great post. Here is another link where you can read more about the Dodgers' prospects: http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2012/#list=la It seems to me that Span is a proven commodity with a clear potential to stay valuable for a while. In contrast, the Dodgers' prospects each might have a 50% (or less) chance of becoming effective MLB starters. If the Twins could get two prospects with a 50% chance of becoming good starters, that would seem like a fair deal to me. Looking at the Dodgers prospects, it seems to me that the Dodgers are doing a much better job at identifying and drafting (and signing) high ceiling pitching prospects than the Twins. Maybe the best move of all would be to hire some of the Dodgers' scouts.
  12. I am still regretting letting Crane go to the White Sox. Perkins and Burton are both high quality late inning relievers -- not that easily replaced. And both of them could be valuable in 2013 and 2014. Let Capps go for a decent pitching prospect. Capps seems unlikely to still be valuable by the time that the Twins are ready to contend. Maybe he could be packaged to get a high potential pitching prospect.
  13. I love how good it makes me feel to read a report like this one -- pure baseball in an apple pie American setting.
  14. Other than the one bad pitch that resulted in the home run, he had a pretty good day today. His trend seems to be improving, and he may yet be an effective #4 or #5 starter.
  15. No site is perfect, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. What remains constant is Seth's informative posts. The rest can either be enjoyed or ignored, as you please.
  16. I wish that Beloit would get back to its winning ways.
  17. Agreed. And Jeff Gray deserves a huge amount of respect for his heroic performance.
  18. Give Gray credit -- ge got through his inning.
  19. Great call on the rain, sb.
  20. That would be good for me -- I have to leave in 10 minutes to get a haircut.
  21. At least he got on -- now time for Doumit to redeem himself.
  22. Brewers will be wise to pitch around Plouffe here.
  23. Willingham will now get a chance to redeem himself -- let's hope that he can Hammer one.
  24. Good question. It would have put a lot more pressure on Rodriguez, and he might have beat it out.
  25. Carroll has been money today!
