  1. At least Plouffe got a hit. Now if only Blackburn could settle down...
  2. I am hoping that Plouffe can get a homer against Homer.
  3. Maybe someone should have read this scout's report: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/thoughts-on-nishioka/
  4. Good for Arcia. Sad for the Twins that only one Twins player was selected.
  5. "Babe" would be one of the greatest nicknames ever, IF he can live up to it. I am a Plouffetist, but agree with those who feel that the Twins should wait a while and see how he performs.
  6. I would hope that the Twins would at least explore whether they could save some money by sending Nishi back to Japan. This could be a win-win for everyone.
  7. I see both points of view here, but since it looks like the Twins will lose 90+ games this year, it's getting difficult to care about a spot start here or there. The Reds will probably win the game by at least 5 runs either way.
  8. Great roundup. It seems to me like Matt Maloney may be a symptom of an organizational failure to draft and develop quality starters.
  9. I am watching this on the internet and feel the same way, absent the cat. I could live with this if the Twins would at least score a FEW runs.
  10. I think that some of this is a result of the team developing a losing mentality and that there would be fewer flubs if the Twins were in contention.
  11. If Plouffe could improve against righties, he would be a lot more valuable. Maybe Vavra can help him with that.
  12. Other than Liriano, is there even a remote hope for an ace next year?
  13. This is a useful review. Killer was my idol as a child and remains so. I am adding this book to my Amazon wish list.
  14. This is very good news. Nice job Twins!
  15. i agree with those who prefer the hope for having an ace over the guaranteed mediocrity that will result from letting Liriano go. Maybe if they could get a prospect who has ace potential, this might make sense. Otherwise, if Liriano does well during the rest of this season, I would offer the minimum amount necessary to qualify for a compensation pick.
  16. I hope that the Twins make him a very appealing offer, to keep faith with us fans.
  17. I missed the game -- got stuck at work and barely had time to check ESPN. I just watched highlights and it looks like Liriano's slider was filthy good, and Span made a great catch. Also, Plouffe and Willingham got solid, clutch hits.
  18. This is just my subjective impression, but it seems to me that Willingham misses some plays in the outfield that he was capable of making, and I was reacting to the comment of Ultima, who was at the game and said: Ultima: 1. Willingham totally misread the ball and got a very late jump on the homer in the 1st. My seat was on the 3rd base line (close to the field) and just past 3rd base itself -- and I saw, in real time, the ball hit the wall and ricochet into the stands. Not a very athletic looking play by Hammer, reminding me of the Jose Conseco ricochet for a homer, though the sun was right in the Hammer's eyes. Point being though, is that even misreading the ball initially, he had a play on the ball and could have caught it... it didn't appear to be that difficult a play. This is subjective, but it seems to me that if the Twins were tied for first in the division -- in a tight playoff race, Willingham would have been more likely to make that catch. This is not a criticism of Willingham -- I think that it is difficult psychologically to give 110% when your team has a very remote chance of making the postseason and you are caught in a losing streak. I think that being on a losing team that is sucking the cellar floor also has a negative effect on hitters, some more than others. I wonder if anyone has stats on the effect of a player moving from a contender to a cellar dweller, and vice-versa.
  19. Liriano deserves this win -- hopefully Perkins will end this thing.
  20. Tonight would be a good time for Plouffe to hit a home run (or three).
  21. Too bad the Twins did not ask for a replay.
  22. I agree with Paul. The Twins desperately need good starters, and if Liriano can be good, then he is worth keeping.
  23. It must be difficult to keep your focus when the team has become a "cellar dweller", as any playoff hopes get more and more distant with each terrible game played. It's not surprising that a losing mentality seems to be developing.
  24. My criticism is the same as jokin's -- Mauer is big enough and strong enough to put Weeks on the DL. Yet it's Mauer who takes the injury. Would Weeks have tried his cheap shot on A.J.?
