Article: Opportunity Cost
Tommygun921 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"I don't understand why people keep referring to him as a "fourth outfielder". That means if someone goes down he is next man up out there." Because that's what they're used him as since he's been here.- 66 replies

Article: Opportunity Cost
Tommygun921 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Most of the pitchers left off will be the 1st ones up when there's an injury or someone fails to deliver. Which is what is what Falvine has been shooting for. Legitimate depth. Players that can be actual reinforcements instead of just replacements.- 66 replies

Grossman has a better approach at the plate, on base skills, and can be used as a 4th outfielder. But I still would like to see Vargas kept over him. But I think Vargas will be left out. To bad he doesn't have any options left. Does Grossman have any?- 66 replies

Article: Is Another Arm Coming?
Tommygun921 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd rather go forward with what we have. Unless there's an injury to Berrios, Oddorizzi, Gibson or an extended one with Santana. I just don't see Lynn, Cobb or Arrieta being worth the money it's gonna take than what we will have possibly next year or the year after. Just because they're the best free agents available doesn't mean they're going to be better than what we will have in '19 and '20. -
I believe Joe is going to make it a difficult decision for the Twins during the off-season. I think he'll have a good season. Good defense OBP, AVG, and maybe even hit around 15 homers. Definitely not as good as 2009 but still good. Of he we're to then accept that he may not be a full-time player anymore then I think the Twins would sign him to 1-2 yr deal. Assuming he is productive, healthy, and wants to play again obviously.

Article: Who Will Be Crowned Sire of Fort Myers?
Tommygun921 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd put Gabriel Moya on the list. Based off of the box scores as I haven't watched any games. I believe he's only given up a homer to the first batter he faced. (I believe) Also could Wade pass Granite as the true 4th outfielder? Or make Grossman expendable? -
Article: Report From The Fort: A Market Squeezed
Tommygun921 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Teams that aren't competitive aren't going to turn into playoff teams by signing mid level prospects like the Twins tried to do from 2011-16. It can do the opposite. Keeping them down longer. So it doesn't pay to spend money when it ultimately won't make a difference. Could take them from 30th to 20th or 25th. Which just moves them further down the draft list, waiver wire, and less international money. (I think) Plus teams are wising up to these long term contracts not paying out. They make it harder for teams to keep that winning window open longer when you're over paying aging players that get hurt or production fades. -
I think the only way the Twins sign these guys is if there's either an injury, they sign for low dollars and years, or they're still available in May when they are in deeper need of the 5th starter. Which will also be around the time Santana is back. I therefore think they'll be in interest if one of which is available and there's been an injury or Hughes, Sanchez, Mejia, ect hasn't panned out. Leaving an opening behind Berrios, Oddorizzi, Santana, and Gibson.

Who do the Twins have that can provide a power right handed bat to replace Sano if he's suspended or injured? Vargas? Is Rooker to far away? Have they signed a minor league free agent to hold it down? Or is it just Escobar? With Aybar taking over Escobar's role.

I hate to see Vargas shipped out without given an extended chance. More short bursts. But Morrison should be a good addition. Just curious on thought process behind it with a healing Sano and him being a lefty.

I also wonder if Vargas or Grossman will be traded. I'm still really curious how Vargas' bat would play if given an extended look. Grossman has good player discipline, but doesn't profile very well as a DH or 4th outfielder.

I know Dozier wants to lead off but his power would play better behind Logan than Buxton. Swap those two and I like that lineup a lot!

Did Seattle end up using that million dollar international money? I assumed they got it from the Twins in hopes of landing Otani. Also what is the chances of Landon Leach reaching star potential? Haven't heard nearly as much about him but he was drafted ahead of Enlow.

Article: Twins Sign RHP Anibal Sanchez... No, Really
Tommygun921 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Haven't the Twins been interested in him previously? Now he's pitched poorly enough we can afford him? But on a serious note it's a no lose situation as it's not a guaranteed contract. -
Article: Minnesota's Winter Of Discontent
Tommygun921 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I just don't get the excitement for Lynn or Cobb. Are they currently that much better than what we have to deserve a 4 yr $X amount contract? Maybe. Will they be better than what we have 2-3 years from now. I sure hope not. I dont think Darvish will be either. The unfortunate situation is that the offense arrived way earlier than the pitching. I'm never a fan of long term deals to free agents. Especially guys that are or will be rather mediocre a year or two in. One thing I also think people tend to not put enough thought into is that MN isnt always a place free agents want to go. Even if they get more money or years. I wonder if Falvey and Lavine are also finding that out. Which could explain why they haven't signed a free agent and may be looking to trade. Which I don't necessarily like considering how much they'd have to give up in order to get an impact arm. Hopefully they can start adding some fast moving arms via the draft. -

Only way I'd trade Kepler to TB is if it's straight up for Archer. I think sending Kepler, Gordon and either Gonsalves or Romero would be ridiculous.- 195 replies

Article: Darvish Down To The Studs
Tommygun921 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I read an article from a NY writer suggesting the Yankees make Darvish a 6 year offer of 30 mil for first 2 years, 20 mil for years 3 and 4 and 10 mil for years 5 and 6. With opt outs after years 2 and 4. Seems like a good deal for both sides and still puts him at the $120 mil 6 year deal that's been talked about by many. -

Article: Adalberto Mejia: High Floor or More?
Tommygun921 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mejia reminds me of a left handed Trevor May as a starter...with a bit less velocity. To many walks and therefore inability to pitch deeper into games. When he's good he's good. Just needs more consistency.
