It's a tricky thing, in my mind, and every player is different. So how long do you keep letting a player struggle before doing something, and then for how long? You are one of the guys who think the team should be doing what it takes to win each year, so, is this helping us win? (Rhetorical, because that's really impossible to answer.) This is where I really wish I were a fly in the wall when players in various levels are discussed. But, I don't think Santana is helping at this point and being here isn't helping him, and I don't think we'd be harmed by Esco at short for 4 weeks or so, with maybe some Polanco mixed in. <shrug>

What's long term for you? I'm okay with Santana going down 4-6 weeks and Esco filling in for that stretch and/or giving Polanco a try as they did last year.

Well, we might as well be playing by NL rules for all the good the DH is doing us these days … with today's lineup being no exception.

I read an article not that long ago that running a horse in the three races against horses that only run one or two of them makes a huge difference and why there aren't more triple crown winners, as the horses running only one or two of them were fresher. There was also some discussion on the 'fairness' of this in terms of the purses won, but I don't really remember the article completely.

I'm not sure anyone has said keep Sano down for 2-3 yrs … but as for right now, I don't think he's ready to be on the major team yet, even as a DH. Saying that isn't saying 2-3 years. And if they do move him from 3B, yes, that could delay things. Whether or not he should be moved from 3B, that's another debate. But bringing him up just to DH, then what? Is that all he'll be? And a back up to Mauer and Plouffe? I guess that's what you see him as for right now? Until the Twins see him as nothing other than a DH, then we might see him sooner, but until he's no longer declared a position player, I think he needs to play every day. I won't sacrifice that for a bat now. We have other options … not being utilized, imho with Vargas, Pinto or Arcia … hopefully. But not Sano now.
