  1. I moved this because this is turning into a more generalized discussion and not just about how this relates to baseball.
  2. That was my confusion and why I posed the question. Thanks.
  3. With the comment made by Gibson, 'It was just how Castro called the game' ... is this him saying he liked Gimenez as well, or was he confused and just commenting how the game was called? If the former, wondering if that's a signal that Gimenez is our backup catcher headed north? Or has that decision been made already and I missed it?
  4. Such a nitpick, but the Twins and Red Sox are cross-county foes as neither team is inside the city limits of Fort Myers. Boston used to be in City of Palms Park, but now both teams are in Lee County but neither inside the city limits.
  5. Well, I hope this means Boshers is gone.
  6. I was talking about this exact thing with diehard ... Molitor has certainly been trying things out and this could be getting close to what we could see.
  7. What did the replay show on that pick off?
  8. Decided at the last minute to come to the game. Likely won't be here the whole time but I'm here for now. Van, see anyone you like? Today's vantage point for a couple innings.
  9. I think that was the right decision for the Twins. And Stubbs could return in a minor league capacity if no one else picks him up.
  10. His suggestion to write to Franken and Warren is implying that we write to only the Democratic leadership, but not the Republican leadership. If you are going to write to representatives that are not your own, it should be to leadership of both parties. Yes, write to your own reps, but I don't know why only Democrats (Franken and Warren) were singled out. That is no better than Trump saying this was the a Dems fault, imo, when both parties have created this.
  11. He was suggesting we write only to the Democrats not to all our representatives. This debacle isn't just about one party's glee. And I didn't say don't write them, I said also, not only, but also write to the republican leadership as well. I think the one-sidedness with his intent is flawed and no better.
  12. I agree whole heartedly on single payer. At the time the ACA was passed that would not have passed. Most people thought that getting at least the ACA would be a stepping stone. As for the other my point was it is BOTH parties. My response to Gerald is that he shouldn't be singling out Dems in this. What he stated does nothing if it's not inclusive to both parties. What he stated is no different, imo, that Trump blaming Dems for the failure. If you are going to write to one party to govern, you need to write to both. And I'm sorry, but I do celebrate this bill's failure. It was legislation to move us backwards not forward. I don't celebrate it as a republican failure, as I said, because that is pointless. But that bill would have been horrible. And maybe celebrate is the wrong word. I am joyful with relief!
  13. I think you also need to send letters to Republican leadership on why this failed, and encourage them to govern, and put together legislation that actually helps people. And frankly, I was celebrating, too; not because Trump and the House Republcians failed and that this debacle showed just how fractured they are, but because this piece of horrible, horrible legislation did not go forward as a result. While I think your letter to encourage Democrats to work on is good, I think your scolding telling them to govern was a bit one-sided and quite a bit off base. The Democrats do not have the majority. They aren't the governing party. And you sound a bit like trump pointing your finger only at them. I will be writing letters to my representatives THANKING them for whatever part they had in this bill's failure (although they really had no part in the failure) and reminding them there is more to be done. And Dave's right, healthcare reform in this country won't work until you get big pharma and the insurance ciompanies in line. And both Dems and Reps are in their pockets. The ACA might have functioned better if they made it mandatory for everyone to get coverage. Too many young and healthy people just paid the fine and went on their merry way so the insurance companies were over burdened with the costs with the disproportionate number of sick people signing up for coverage. They had no choice but to raise rates as they did. But a mandatory clause wouldn't have passed last time. The ACA that was passed was watered down quite a bit from its original proposal, as the more progressive parts did not get enough support. Perhaps what needs to happen first is to get rid of Citizens United and take away the power and money of PACS and lobbies, then maybe representatives will start behaving as if they are for the people and of the people.
  14. So, you are asking who specifically made the decision? Not sure what you are getting at with all this ...
  15. Well, the TD report above did say this: <shrug> I guess that says enough for me.
  16. You'll be waiting a long time methinks, if you think the FO is going to give a detailed report of why they made the decision they did. But who knows, they might choose to enlighten us thoroughly.
  17. It's not the number of games, it's the number of innings and pitches thrown. Just coming in as a reliever to pitch an inning or an out for a handful of pitches is not stretched out enough to be starting games on the ML level, and I have my doubts whether or not he can be in a week. Had he even started in a game? Gone even 4 innings at a time, let alone 5 or 6, up to 70 pitches? I don't know for sure what work he got in on the side, but he definitely hasn't done that in games. And while Hughes hasn't been good, Berrios hasn't really been either in smaller samples, despite the youth and upside. I'm not excited about this, I don't even like it, but imo being on team PR, while I don't blame him for being so, set him back for the start of the season. He made the decision for them. If Hughes never gets it together by the time Berrios is stretched out enough in AAA, then make the switch, as soon as possible. Now, if they choose Duffy over Mejia, that will make me far less understanding as well as not liking it.
  18. Hughes has pitched in a more games and has had many more innings, with both ML and MiL games.
  19. It's both a bummer and not unexpected given the lack of work the WBC provided.
  20. I'm not surprised about Berrios. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but I'm not surprised. I think the writing was on the wall with the lack of innings he was getting in the WBC. It's unfortunate a player is 'penalized' for wanting to represent his country in the tournament, but at this time of year I'm not sure what else can be done or expected. But that's a discussion for a different thread.
  21. MODERATOR WARNING: I've reposted this message above from John if we are going to continue discussing this topic. You are welcome to express your opinion and so are others, and it's okay if these opinions are in disagreement with one another. Many here have expressed that they think the tone and message of Kinsler's quote is troubling. That is a valid opinion so please, stop saying people are wrong. They aren't. And many don't think there is anything inherently wrong in what Kinsler said, and that is also a valid opinion and shouldn't so quickly be negated. No one here is right or wrong in this discussion despite believing otherwise. This isn't an all or nothing discussion, nor should it be. You can agree to disagree without saying others are wrong or delusional or in denial or libelous. You can agree to disagree without stomping your feet saying your are right and the other wrong, no matter how much you believe that to be the case. For everyone here, I know that many, myself included, have strong opinions on this subject, but the narrative of our posts must remain civil and open-minded and not too heavy handed or we will achieve nothing. And in John's message he said he expects this thread to be heavily moderated ... I'm trying to give some latitude to opinions here, but if you are going to take an all or nothing extreme stance without giving way to listen to the other side, your post will be edited or deleted. I will also add, try not to be so offended and start posting defensively. That also does nothing to move the conversation forward.
  22. Van, if you lived in DC and my niece didn't have a boyfriend, I'd introduce you to her, but so it goes. But she's not quite 29. She's not quite 24.
  23. Did they say anything about Vargas?
  24. I'm kind of glad none of them did.
