  1. Okay, at the game today, too. No one commented how I got the date wrong in yesterday’s thread. Is this one televised? I thought I read that Dick n Bert were getting it warmed up for the season, but may that’s for Sunday’s game. Better lineup for the Twins today but I’m not sure I recognize many names on the Astro’s lineup card. Looking forward to Lance Lynn pitching. Here you go:
  2. Yeah, that I get, but why a day off BETWEEN the two games with Pittsburgh and why a day off in the middle of the series with Mariners?
  3. Ugh! They actually asked people to stand and remove their hats for GBA! Seriously! That is not our anthem. Yuck. I hate that song.
  4. If he can get these same results against a true starting 9, I will have no issues with Hughes still pitching. I’m not sure how I really feel about giving him the opportunity but if he can get satisfactory results, okay.
  5. But he’s only given up 1 hr so far so not so bad. Until you consider the lineup of the other team is far from their starting 9.
  6. Yeah, neither side is great. But I’ll se how it goes for a bit.
  7. My vantage point is everywhere. I have a SRO ticket and it’s too chilly to stay in one place.
  8. Here are your lineups, which are less than impressive on both sides. I may end up at the minor league games across the way midway through this game. Okay yes, it’s sideways. What can I say, I’m not yet in game Thread form. Or am I ...
  9. I’m here in The Fort, at the game. Since this is on ESPN2 today, thought I’d start a thread. Although you cable cutters likely don’t get ESPN2. And tbh, I really don’t pay any mind to ESPN anything anymore. But, a televised game is a televised game. Any watchers?
  10. You would know
  11. Yeah, stop it
  12. There’s a nice article by David Dorsey in the Fort Myers News-Press this morning. Watkins, as most probably know, is a Fort Myers native, so it’s a nice ‘local kid does good’ story. https://www.news-press.com/story/news/2018/03/21/tommy-watkins-takes-off-minnesota-twins-minor-league-manager/429073002/
  13. If he pitches really well this year, probably not. If he doesn’t, well, yeah maybe. In other words, if he’s pissed now, he may not be next year.
  14. Won’t know until next year. If he has a really great 2018, he could end up in the better place over all.
  15. He’s been pitching on the minor league fields, getting his work in. From what I’ve read and/or listening to on TD.
  16. You can follow and make comments about Rooker’s progress this year in the Adopt-a-Prospect forum. Here is the link to his thread: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/28840-brent-rooker-2018/ And it’s not too late if any of you want to jump in!
  17. Are you down in Florida now? If so, introduce yourself to Seth. He’s pretty much down on the minor league fields most of the day.
  18. Oh for sure. As I’ve said several times now, I’m not absolving him of responsibility at all, he should have known better; just looking at the larger issue.
  19. I never said he shouldn’t pay the consequences. Never once. All I’m saying is that if you want to address the issue over all you have to go beyond a MLB rule. Period. Kids, young kids, are lured into this as a way of life early on to the point it’s part of the culture and a means of escape. They are prey to teams and agents. I’m not excusing Polanco or anyone else who gets caught by suggesting that there is more to it that needs more understanding than those who want it to be a black and white issue. It’s not. But I’m not excusing Polanco, as I think I’ve already stated that one way or the other, he should have known better. But since this conversation has morphed beyond just Polanco but PED usage, this ‘Its a rule and that’s the end of it’ stance from a couple of posters I think is fool-hardy and solves nothing.
  20. My point is I’m talking about poverty and what one does to escape it, in a country where there is no way out. Yes, he broke the rules and needs to pay the consequences for that. I’m not disagreeing. But if we really want to solve the issue of PED use, especially among Dominicans, I think we need to look at more than just a MLB rule. There are many who prey on these kids and I have no idea how strong or easy the lure is to go down that road as I have never experienced that level of poverty. It just seems to me that if it’s (still) an issue, we aren’t looking at the right things in order to truly address it.
  21. I made this point pages back. It’s legal in the DR and almost encouraged and I’d bet agents are involved in this as well. Enticing and luring, actually preying on the impoverished. Why I don’t believe it’s a race issue when a very high percentage of those caught are from the DR. That is not coincidental to me.
  22. This makes sense. Why I wondered several pages ago when they found out. And I think it has affected Polanco on the field, too. The number of errors is so high I wonder if some of that could be attributed to things on his mind.
  23. Moderator warning: Back to topic. This is about Polanco. If any wants to discuss any larger or related issues at play, start a thread. But don't side track and derail this one with intentional statements to inflame.
