  1. They would have lost had they challenged. Don’t know how you penalize a runner for a slide right on the base
  2. For me personally as a long suffering MN pro sports fan, any manager or coach who wins a ring is good enough for a lifetime appointment. And I’m not exaggerating.
  3. And Arraez.
  4. Yep, stats should always have some context behind them
  5. No one is insinuating that it’s 100% anyone’s fault. It never is. Even yesterday, pagan didn’t get it done. But shares the blame with the guy who put him into a situation he doesn’t excel in. And the guys who made the trade to bring him in. I consider myself to be somewhat educated about the game of baseball, but maybe I just don’t understand what a manager does for a baseball team anymore. Reading this forum as much as I do, one gets the impression that a manager is responsible for nothing that goes on and the team is going to win and lose only as many games as their talent allows. It’s an odd position to take in defense of a guy who’s teams really haven’t accomplished anything except a division title in a joke season and another title when the ball was juiced to the max. I understand that some people are going to hate the manager and wrongly blame him for every single thing that goes wrong. But there’s another sect of people who just think he’s merely average at best, and not the guy we think is going to win us some pennants.
  6. No you misread what I said. We were talking about fundamentals and how this team is not particularly good at the basics of the game. The teams of the 90s were comparatively weak on talent but we’re usually (if memory serves) pretty solid fundamentally. And the roster who started the turnaround in the early 00s (some played for TK) were also comparatively weaker than this club, but somewhat overachieved in part because they played fundamental baseball. Weaker than average teams can win themselves a few more games by being fundamental. The same way Uber talented clubs can lose themselves a few games by being weak fundamentally. This roster is comparatively strong with legitimate stars (buxton, correa, Arraez) but seems to lack the fundamentals. I’m not putting that all on RB because it’s been going on a while. But the drop off in fundamental type players is clearly noticeable. Baserunning has been a bugaboo all season. That can certainly be worked on. Some don’t want to put that on the manager which is weird. Yes teaching these things should be an entire organizational philosophy, but some things can be improved upon by the manager and staff. These things separate good teams from great teams and it’s partly why the twins fail in the postseason when they run up against clubs who are coached and managed better.
  7. I’m saying that’s who I would have gone with yesterday. 1) leave jax in another inning or 2) bring in thielbar or 3) put duran in. All of those options are better than EP. It’s probably not possible to have a set order when you have so many inconsistent guys. But one way you could combat the awfulness of the bullpen is to ride the hot hand.
  8. Not that we didn’t already know this
  9. At the very least, the manager picks his staff, doesn’t he?
  10. I mean, kind of an unfair comparison considering the makeup of those mid-late 90’s teams especially relative to today’s team. Not too many Carlos Correa’s or Luis arraez’s on those squads. And some fellas on the Gardy teams of the early 00’s cut their teeth under TK. Not the most talented teams but they got the most out of it. I would say those teams were overall less talented than the one we have today.
  11. Stupid? No. A good manager? Certainly debatable. Some here think managers are overrated but also point out his overall record as a reason why he’s above harsh criticism. Not saying you said this but it’s been said here before
  12. I agree, the twins have been poor on the fundamentals for years now. Just today there were at least 3 plays that were nothing more than bad fundamentals (safety squeeze fiasco took the cake). Usually that falls on the manager but apparently some here think Rocco is beyond criticism. And I could understand that with all the postseason success his teams have had
  13. Thielbar, Jax, Duran..in that order. Fail with anyone else and I can live with the attempt at at least trying someone else. There literally hasn’t been anyone worse in almost a year than Pagan. Both things can be true: the bullpen was constructed terribly and Rocco continues to use a bad option. I don’t know why people want him to be immune to criticism so badly. Couple playoff appearances with nary a win to show for it. This isn’t a jab at you as I respect your posts.
  14. Welcome back welcome back welcome back
  15. So when the question is “who else”, the answer could very honestly be “anyone”. But we’re all just big meanies towards rocco
  16. Today? Could have been jax for another inning (although he had 21 pitches) or even thielbar who I trust more than pagan (which doesn’t say much). Or as mentioned, 2 for duran.
  17. I think you are misremembering the argument. The issue is question was using him in the 6th and 7th against the tigers (a game pagan also blew). I don’t recall ever saying that he should NOT be used in the 8th inning ever. I literally do not recall ever saying that. Certainly I agree that it’s not a viable long term strategy to keep asking so much from a guy with inning concerns. I am definitely adamant that he should be THE closer (and not burned in the 6th/7th innings) and unfortunately on this team that means pitching more than one inning per outing. I have also been strongly adamant that pagan should not pitch late in games if at all possible. The earlier the better so that when he inevitably fails to do his job, we have more than an at bat or two to recover.
  18. Ok. And I think my reasoning here is pretty solid and not hypocritical.
