Two inning outings is a weird way to use your best reliever IMO. If he needs two days off after that, you kinda set yourself up for failure when your bullpen is so lean. Like, who’s another good 8/9 inning option right now? I’d like to have him available for 9th inning save situations only. But that requires 1) starters going longer 2) other relievers stepping up

Hey these dudes are in the major leagues for a reason. Yeah the guys with the best stuff should get the highest leverage situations but if you’re not going to ask even 5 innings from the starter, then some of these less proven guys are going to need to see action, sometimes against the better hitters. Otherwise you’re just leaning on a guy or two to do ALL the heavy lifting and you run the risk of burning them out.

It is true that he was already warming so it may have been too late to change course. But again, the fewer innings you have to get out of a weak bullpen the better. I’ll take a smeltzer for the third time through the order over MOST of our bullpen guys. The trick should be trying to get to the 9th without using duran, especially if we’re concerned about innings

Aren’t we supposed to be watching how many innings duran has? Why use him for TWO innings of a 5 run game? And smith has been shaky shaky shaky for about a month now. Rocco manages the pitching staff like we have an all star loaded bullpen. There’s a steep drop off after duran. Rocco should be trying to get as many innings out of his starters as possible, not yanking them because they reach the magical third time through the order

trading prospects to try and sneak into an expanded playoff we have no shot of winning is what bad organizations do. That would be as hair brained as someone suggesting Duran should be made into a starter. Just stop.

So now a baseball message board is the arbiter of medical information and commentary and who is allowed to state an opinion? Lol get real. There are a million boards where people can argue about that stuff. A baseball team specific site should not be one of them, but I do give you credit for stating the site’s bias, I guess

Tigers 3, Twins 2: Nick Gordon Show isn't Enough
Aggies7 replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A team as limited in relievers simply can’t do the 3-6 (closer to 6) pitcher a game thing. Sure it will work sometime but there are just too many unreliable relievers to expect to hold a marginal lead, which we usually have because we can’t hit worth a hill of beans. I don’t understand refusing to adjust to what best suits the makeup of the team.- 40 replies

Duran is suited for the role he’s in. Trying to make him a starter would be disastrous.- 40 replies

Tigers 3, Twins 2: Nick Gordon Show isn't Enough
Aggies7 replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Modern baseball sometimes tries to get too cute for its own good, to the point of annoyance. The “closers are overrated” trope appeared again today in defense of putting our best reliever into the game in the 6th inning. Duran should be the closer until proven otherwise. Not the 6th inning guy. Not the 7th inning guy. Maybe the 8th inning guy if you’re planning on making him go two innings. But he’s the closer. Stop relying on guys like pagan and duffey and Jax to pitch the 8th/9th. In fact, pagan should never appear past the 7th inning. How much more do fans need to see until they realize he is terrible at closing games? As I said in the GDT, if we’re forced to use unreliable relievers, I’d rather see them in the 6th or 7th. That way, we have more at bats to come back if they cough up the lead.- 40 replies

There’s no better time for buxton to be on the IL. If he’s so hurt that he’s going to be 50% the player that he can be, then he needs to sit. In the rare event he even gets on base, he can’t steal. This play one day, miss a day, maybe DH the next day is not working for him. He’s more a hindrance than a help and maybe it would be wise to hold him out officially. And I always grew up thinking guys would play everyday unless they’re legitimately injured. Load management hurts teams like the twins with minimal depth. Baseball didn’t just start playing 162 games, and they played a heck of a lot more doubleheaders back in the day.

This club cannot be allowed to make the postseason or the playoff losing streak will most definitely reach 21 games. Please step in, MLB, for the integrity of the game and to save me the embarrassment of having to face my friends.

The twins offense is somehow in the top half of all MLB in most classic offensive categories. Certainly not BA with bases loaded, no outs

Astros 5, Twins 0, Lack of Luck, Runners Left on Base
Aggies7 replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You have to ask yourself, is there any team in the league right now who would be at all intimidated playing the twins? The players reflect the personality of the manager. Unfortunately, in our case- 38 replies

I find that the twins havent ever seemed to play with any urgency or action under Rocco. Just seems like an overall overly cautious, laissez faire approach lacking in action. Some of these better teams, like Houston, come in and they’re working counts, not giving away at bats, being aggressive on the bases. Constantly keeping you on edge. Seems like rocco’s chill guy approach translates into butt whoopings against the better clubs. “It’s a long season”. Yeah, but how about competing more? Rocco even came out to check on winder with the trainer and he wasn’t even hurt. Just seems super overly cautious and lacking urgency.- 38 replies

Duran should be given save opportunities until he proves that he can’t do it. Preferably the one inning variety. Yes he put two on in the 9th but he struck out 5 and walked 1 (and one HBP). Took 32 pitches to get through 2 innings. Pagan’s last 4 outings pitch count (all one inning or less): 34, 23, 27, 28

you're right it was tied. just puzzling that he had a 10 pitch save a couple nights before and he was brought into a tie game in the 8th inning on the road. if they are going to essentially audition guys for the closer role then they should treat one guy that way at a time IMO- 68 replies
