  1. Ken Rosenthal‏Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal 36m36 minutes ago More Sources: #Twins checking on controllable starters. List would include Quintana, Gray, as well as someone like Straily (control through ’20). Ken Rosenthal just tweeted the above out, so maybe the Twins will surprise everyone.
  2. I still can't figure out how to post a tweet like InfraRen just did but Berardino just tweeted what McKay is getting from the Rays. I feel like they wayyyyyyy over paid. Mike Berardino‏Verified account @MikeBerardino 16m16 minutes ago More Louisville LHP Brendan McKay, who turned down #mntwins offer, is expected to get $7M-$7.2M from #Rays (slot is $6.15M @4), I'm told.
  3. I'd go with Wright. He has a high ceiling and floor plus the Twins need pitching right now and he will probably be to the majors the soonest.
  4. What scares me the most with keeping all of the "adequate" veteran players around for the start of the season is that 22 of the first 25 games of the season are against the Central Division. If the Twins are keeping players around who aren't as good as some of these young guys just for veteran leadership and they get off to a bad start the season is going to be over before the end of April.
  5. Arrieta: 2.42 ERA, 2.72 FIP, 9.15 K/9, 2.55 BB/9 Darvish: 3.20 ERA, 2.94 FIP, 11.55 K/9, 2.94 BB/9 Cueto: 2.80 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 8.21 K/9, 2.08 BB/9 Tanaka: 3.12 ERA, 3.53 FIP, 8.18 K/9, 1.54 BB/9 Tillman: 3.99 ERA, 4.22 FIP, 6.68 K/9, 3.19 BB/9 Pineda: 4.10 ERA, 3.42 FIP, 9.20 K/9, 1.77 BB/9 Cobb: 3.54 ERA, 3.51 FIP, 7.88 K/9, 2.58 BB/9 I would target Darvish, Pineda and Cobb. I'm not a fan of most pitchers who put up great numbers in the NL with zero success in the AL. Darvish and Pineda both have the K/9 I'd like to see the Twins target and Cobb is intriguing because he had good numbers prior to his injury.
  6. LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal 21s21 seconds ago Forgot to mention in the blog. Twins are getting offers for their Rule 5 pick tomorrow.
  7. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 32m32 minutes ago Maryland, USA White Sox are about to add the No. 1 (Moncada), No. 3 (Giolito), No. 30 (Kopech) and No. 38 (Lopez) prospects per http://MLBPipeline.com
  8. One thing I hope for with the new front office is that they're more aggressive with promotions. It doesn't seem like position players were promoted mid season very often.
  9. There is also a very good chance Ramos doesn't catch at all next season or ever again.
  10. More info from twitter....still don't know how to post tweets.... Seth Stohs Retweeted MLB Network Radio ‏@MLBNetworkRadio 15m15 minutes ago #Dodgers Dave Roberts: "Dozier fits everywhere."
  11. Looks like there could be some other movement now that Boston traded for Sale. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 8m8 minutes ago Buchholz due $13.5 M in final year. Some offset likely required there. Pomeranz projected $4.7 M as 4+ arb. Drafted by both TEX/CLE. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 12m12 minutes ago Sale fallout could lead #RedSox to make Buchholz and/or Pomeranz available. Hearing #mntwins could have interest but have yet to engage.
  12. Yes but what level were they at in 2012? Buxton was in the rookie league and Sano played in low A.
  13. I understand they haven't proven themselves at the MLB level but they need to be given a chance first and not just a few starts and then send them back down and then call them back up to send them back down after a few more starts. A legit chance to work through things at the MLB level once they have proven they have handled the minors. The Twins haven't done that and it's one reason I don't like the fact that Molitor is coming back as the manager. I'm confused on your take on Gordon saying he hasn't proven himself in the minors so far. He's has been very consistent with the bat at all levels and is proven so in the AFL, which is probably the toughest competition he's faced up until now. His defense definitely needs work but based off of what scouts have said they believe he will stick at SS. I don't see how he hasn't proven himself in the minors. Sano is definitely a work in progress but I would like to see him go through the entire season at 3B instead of "working" all off season at the RF then getting moved back to 3B half way through the season. He's probably only played 162 games at 3B since his tommy john surgery, which was 3 seasons ago. I didn't look it up so that's an educated guess. He needs to play all spring training and all of next season at 3B before we will even come close to understanding if he can play the position or not. I guess maybe I differ in my thought process on what a complete rebuild is. Like I mentioned in another comment I think a complete rebuild entails a crappy MLB product with zero good young players to go along with an empty cupboard in the minors. Yes all those players still need to prove themselves at the MLB level but it's still better that the Twins have the "elite" prospects that have made their way up the minor leagues with success.
  14. I completely agree with the first part of your statement but to say the Twins are in a complete rebuild is in my opinion an over exaggeration. A complete rebuild implies the team doesn't have a foundation, which is where I would have put the Twins in 2012 - 2015. Back then the product at the MLB level was awful in both pitching and position but the minor league was also completely empty of any prospects. At this point yes the top prospects haven't proven themselves at the MLB level but they were elite prospects and have a proven track record in the minors. They have had SOME success at the MLB level and now it will be up to them to make that continued success.
  15. I don't agree they're in a complete rebuild. The Twins have a lot of very good young position players at the MLB level. SS needs to be upgraded, and that all depends on what the Twins do with Dozier and Polanco. Maybe Polance is the answer and maybe the Twins trade Dozier and move Polanco to 2nd. But they do have Nick Gordan at AA and he's been playing very well in the AFL. The only real position that needs a drastic improvement is catcher. There are a few options with Murphy and Garver but that position would benefit from another player being brought in via FA or trade. Obviously the biggest team need is pitching but the Twins have a few players who could be difference makers. Starting Staff: Berrios, May, Mejia, Gonsalves, Gibson and Santana. Bullpen: Chargois, Hildenberger, Light, Burdi, Pressely and Rodgers. Plus having Jay, Jorge, Stewart and Romero at AA to start the season there are many options. They won't all make it to the MLB with the Twins but a few of them could be used in a multi player trade to bring in the Ace the Twins really need. The biggest challenge will be determining which of these players should stay and which should be traded away.
  16. I'm just glad it's someone from outside the organization!
  17. For the record I don't like LMFAO at all. I honestly have no idea why I picked this username other than it was easy to remember. This is my username on the Strib that I used before I found this amazing news source for Twins information.
  18. Sign Jason McLeod as the President of Baseball Operations and Derek Falvey as the GM. It would be a promotion for both. McLeod has the experience you'd want for the POBO and Falvey is a young and upcoming Assistant GM that could step into the larger role of GM.
  19. I look at it as you described him as a middle of the rotation player who maybe has a chance to be better. I'm not sure I'd take that as a compliment if I was Gonsalves. As for Jay you just stated that you're biased because you didn't like the pick to begin with. "Jay was a gamble. With the sixth pick in last June's draft, the Twins took the Illinois closer just ahead of Andrew Benintendi, who is currently batting .350 for the Red Sox, and Carson Fulmer, who mowed through the minors and has been on the White Sox roster for a month. Rather than go after the dynamic offensive talent or the established collegiate starter, the Twins decided to pick Jay with hopes he could successfully transition into a rotation piece. The results, thus far, have not been great." "At the very least, this looks like it is going to be an extended project. Meanwhile, the players that Minnesota passed up to select Jay have rocketed to the big leagues and are already auditioning for prominent roles in 2017. Not ideal." You make it sound like the two players drafted after him are already "lightly it up" when in actuality the one has been sent back down and the other has a whopping total of 41 ABs.
  20. Talk about a debbie downer, my god. What does Gonsalves have to do to be thought of as a number 1 or 2 in a rotation? Tyler Jay is in what his first full season of pro ball and his first real season of starting and you're basically calling him a bust. Andrew Benintendi has 33 at bats - let's wait and see how he does the rest of the season and into next season before we hail him the greatest thing since sliced bread. Have we already forgot what happened to Santana, Vargas and Rosario after their success when they were first called up. Felix Jorge has dominated every level he's pitched at and is only 22 years old. Lets see how these guys all finish the season. This crop of pitching is by far the best group the Twins have ever had coming up together.
  21. Once all 6 starters are healthy it'll be interesting to see what happens. Is there a trade coming or will someone be moved to the bullpen and if so who from the bullpen gets moved.
  22. Seems all the uproar in the offseason about the Twins management playing Mauer and having him hit at the top of the lineup might have been overblown.
  23. Kepler is the prospect I'm most excited to follow this season. He just seems to have the 'it' factor. Seems to have great character, works hard and is determined to make it to the Show. I think the Twins did a great job bringing him up in September last year to get him a taste of the MLB. It will be interesting to see how playing time shakes out as the season goes on. There doesn't seem to be room for him currently on the Twins roster, which isn't a bad thing. Twins finally have competition!!!!!! If Kepler builds off of last season the Twins will be forced to do something unless there are injuries (which I don't hope there are).
  24. No way on Suzuki. Dozier's situation is interesting. Should the Twins trade him and see if Polanco can take over at second base or keep him and move Polanco? It doesn't sound like Polanco is going to be able to play SS at the MLB level.
  25. This article seems to come out at a strange time in my opinion. The Twins were always in the running from 2001 to 2010 to make the playoffs. 2011 they came back with basically the same team as 2010, however the entire team was decimated by injuries. From 2012 to 2014 they were really, really bad - that also allowed them to draft Buxton, Gordon, Berrios, ect, ect. 2015 they took a step forward and many prospects are close to making it to the majors. No one knows how those prospects are going to turn out. Will they all become great - probably not. Will they all fail - probably not. Hopefully the front office hit on enough of the prospects to make these last 4 years worth it. This article would make more sense in 3 to 5 years if the Twins don't make consistent runs are the World Series and the majority of these prospects fail. To write this article right at the beginning of potential significant improvements seems strange.
