  1. Rocco: Hi Mr. Poppen, can you come into my office when you get showered and dressed? Poppen: Sure coach. Anything you wanna talk about? Rocco: No. Here's your ticket back to Rochester. No need to see me after showering.
  2. The GM's have been very vocal about their distaste for the new trade deadline rules. I think they are making a statement to MLB by not doing anything. It certainly helps out the small market teams...
  3. Go back to whatever you were doing during the 5 run inning. Come back in a couple of hours and we'll give you a big Atta Boy/Thank you!!
  4. I think my prediction on Covey today was spot on. I usually don't get those so accurate.
  5. I've mentioned the connection a couple of times. I have some great stories on the Twins that have passed through Miami at one point or another. My sister usually does a good job of keeping me up to date. She's gotten me into some great baseball games, player introductions, etc. Can't believe she actually has two world series rings...Told her its time the Twins grab their 3rd. I'm using Aloe and Coors Light for the sunburn...Thanks for the advice!
  6. I think Rocco is just giving him a rest day.
  7. Good morning and welcome back to Game Thread central! We have another great game on tap today against the struggling Chicago White Sox. I think the Twins will bounce back today in a big way to take 3 of 4 from Chicago. With the White Sox trotting Mr. Covey out on the mound today I would look for another multi-homer game from the Twins. My pick to click today is Nelson Cruz. I apologize for the brevity of my post today but I was up in Alexandria, MN bass fishing with my son yesterday and got extremely sunburned. My face looks like Rocky Balboa after going the distance with Apollo Creed in Rocky I...The big news besides my sunburn is the trade the Twins pulled off with the Florida Marlins. Welcome aboard Mr. Romo. Please help our bullpen! I also hope to see some major trade deadline deals come through in the next couple of days. Don't blow this opportunity Falvey!!!! Just a quick insider note regarding Romo. My sister has worked for the Florida Marlins for almost 20 years and gets to know the players well. She called me last night to to say Romo's a great guy and the players in the club house really like him. She said we are getting a great leader and pitcher that still has a lot left in the tank. She also said Chris Vallimont could be a great pickup. I guess we will find out about these two soon enough. The division race is tightening up but I'm really not that concerned. I've posted this before that I would gladly take the existing Twins team over the Cleveland Indians team any day of the week. These two teams are heading in opposite directions for the next 3-5 years (full disclosure, I would like a couple of Clevelands pitchers but that's it). Let's go Twins!! I need to go find some Aloe... The starting lineups today: TWINS: 1. Max Kepler RF 2. J. Polanco SS 3. Nelson Cruz DH 4. L. Arraez 3B 5. M. Sano 1B 6. M. Gonzalez LF 7. J. Schoop 2B 8. Jason Castro C 9. B. Buxton CF SP: Kyle Gibson (9-4) 4.24 ERA WHITE SOX: 1. Leury Garcia RF 2. Ryan Goins SS 3. Yoan Moncada 3B 4. Jon Jay LF 5. Eloy Jimenez DH 6. W. Castillo C 7. AJ Reed 1B 8. Y. Sanchez 2B 9. Adam Engel CF SP: Dylan Covey R (1-6) 6.04 ERA Weather: 87 degrees and a 2% chance of rain.
  8. I look forward to those head to head games against Cleveland and would bet a large sum that says the Twins take them down. No way I would take the Indians team over the Twins now or in September. I think those two clubs are going in opposite directions and the Twins have the momentum, youth and talent.
  9. Call Falvey (612)-555-1435
  10. Cruz has a wrist issue...Not good
  11. Congratulations on making your first post. Welcome to the discussion! However, I disagree with some of your comments. Yes, we seriously need to improve our bullpen. Regardless, have you ever heard of the old business adage, nothing happens until you sell something...You gotta score runs as well as pitch. Cleveland doesn't have much offense. Yankees or Astros will carve them up.
  12. Tom, they drink cold water using their left hand not right. Scientifically proven to help a breaking ball or two seamer fastball. It's a Jersey thing.
  13. Sorry I had to step away from the game for awhile. Had house guests over. They didn't care that I had to do Game Thread opener tonight or that the Twins were playing the Yankees. They won't be invited back... We're gonna be ok now. I'm feeling the mojo.
  14. I double checked the lineup just now and you are correct. Kep out Cave in...Ugggh. The lineup I posted was around 4:45 or so. Seems odd for such a late, last minute change.
  15. Too late for me. Couldn't wait any longer
  16. Nice post. I agree that the Twins are playing with a whole lot of confidence. I was going to say in my opening post another observation I had last night, which was: The Yankees looked generally stunned and on their heels when Sano pounded that pitch in the 8th inning. The Yankees know this is a very tough team. My other observation was Chapman looked entirely freaked out to pitch anything over the plate to our lineup. Obviously he couldn't locate a pitch but I think he knew if it got close to the strike zone it could be game over. I think opposing pitchers are intimidated by our lineup. If they're not they should be...
  17. So true. I tried decapitating myself on our laser cutters but kept coming back to an Aaron Hicks catch.
  18. I know the feeling. All anyone could talk about today at work was last nights game. I had to re-live it all over again and again.
  19. Everyone better get ready for World War III! Last nights game was probably one of the most drama filled regular season games I've seen in years. I will not call it the best regular season game I've seen in years as the Twins lost. However, it was drama filled. I expect the last game of this series tonight will be a lot like the first two. As I mentioned above, better get ready for World War III. I fully expect the Twins will come out charging hard and playing with something to prove. My take away after watching the entire game last night is that this Minnesota Twins team will not roll over to the Yankees. They seem to have a confidence I've seen lacking in other Twins teams the last 10-15 years. We are watching playoff baseball in July. It's great that we have a team that is contending and playing the top-tier teams so well. We know the bullpen needs some support and we only have a handful of days left to find out what our front office will do. It could be Christmas in July for our Minnesota Twins...Please don't blow this deadline Falvey! We have a really, really good team that's just a few arms away from going the distance in October. By the way, when I checked this morning, last nights game thread had 1,471 posts and 74 pages. Nice to see that much activity and conversation going on. Everybody buckle in and enjoy the ride tonight. It's gonna get bumpy! World Wars are usually like that... Go Twins and make some great trades before the deadline!!!! I wanna win another World Series! Lineups: TWINS: 1. J. Polanco SS 2. M. Gonzalez RF 3. Nelson Cruz DH 4. E. Rosario LF 5. Max Kepler CF 6. Miguel Sano 1B 7. Luis Arraez 3B 8. J. Schoop 2B 9. Mitch Garver C SP: Jake Odorizzi R (11-4) 3.18 ERA YANKEES: 1. DJ LeMahieu 1B 2. Aaron Judge RF 3. Aaron Hicks CF 4. E. Encarnacion DH 5. D. Gregorius SS 6. G. Torres 2B 7. Gio Urshela 3B 8. M. Tauchman LF 9. A. Romine C SP: J.A. Happ L (8-5) 4.86 ERA Weather: Partly cloudy and a warm 85 degrees
  20. Do we have a position player that can throw?
