    I really doubt it. They'd need to build a new stadium and it's not even close to the same population range as almost all AAA locations. For example, Monroe county, New York, has a population of about 750,000. Polk county, Iowa, is at about 470,000. Olmstead county is at about 153,000. There would be a small bump in potential attendance due to the team being the Twins' AAA affiliate but I highly doubt that that would be enough to make it a viable location.

    Not vastly underrated by Twins fans, I daresay, but if Mariano Rivera hadn't had his peak concurrently with Nathan and if Rivera hadn't been a Yankee he would have received more recognition as the dominant closer that he was.

    Just now got around to reading this. There will never be a AAA affiliate close to Minneapolis. There needs to be a AAA-quality stadium and a population large enough to generate satisfactory attendance. Des Moines is as close as we could expect to get and the Cubs will never give that up.

    I think having a second wild card is better than just one because it puts a higher premium on winning the division. We don't want any further expansion though. Ever.

    At this point in the season with several teams in contention it's kind of like the postseason starts now.

    The winner of the annual football game between these two schools used to earn what I thought was one of the coolest traveling trophies: The Nickel (Bison on one side, Sioux on the other). I understand it is now suspended, I suppose at least in part due to the fact that UND has a different mascot (correctly so, IMHO).

    This gave me a sense of deja vu. The White Sox loss in this game is the type of loss the Twins would have suffered last year. Sometimes you're the pigeon, sometimes you're the statue.

    I don't know if this is considered nit-picking but our favorite team compiled a 20-10 record in August this year including 18-7 over the last 25 games.

    I think the rule should be changed, but obviously this is of very little consequence as it doesn't have any effect on the outcome of a game. I just think if you touch a base and overslide you still should get credit for reaching the base.

    Top 5, Tuesday night. Tim Anderson hits a ball to right. He slides into second base as the throw comes in. He touches second base without being tagged, then overslides and is tagged out. The hit was ruled a single but to me there is no doubt--NONE--that he should be credited with a double because he reached second base safely. I challenge you, Stew, to explain the wrong call that this was a single.

    Canada geese are a serious nuisance in urban parks. I support continuing what is currently done. Round them up periodically and let them loose in rural areas farther north. That way they can contribute to the cycle of life by becoming fox food.

    I generally agree. To me it's MLB trying to be like the NFL and its color rush promotion, and I don't think the NFL is the role model MLB should emulate.

    There's one near work. I'll drive thru there maybe a couple times a month for lunch.

    You know what I (cautiously optimistically) think? I think we are seeing the emergence of a team that will seriously contend for several years starting next year. Gotta get a starter or two and a closer, but I think our lineup can give opposing teams fits.
