  1. Yep. He was what power pitchers aspire to. Think Nolan Ryan with a little bit better fastball and much better control.
  2. I think the Span trade was probably pursued mutually by the teams involved but Philadelphia initiated the Revere trade. I would not trade May back to the Phillies for Revere, and if Worley would have worked out better it would have been even more advantageous for the Twins. I remember Patrick Reusse commenting that you don't turn down a deal when the other team is willing to overpay. It did lead to Aaron Hicks being moved up too fast but it's looking like he'll be OK long term, so good on TR.
  3. I went to a game at the dome in about 2000, maybe 2001 in which the Twins and the Athletics wore throwback unis, I think from around 1915. I remember thinking that to be truly authentic there would have been no numbers on the players' jerseys. And the other thing I thought of is that Art Howe should have worn a suit and hat just like Connie Mack always did. Now THAT would have been authentic, and cool to boot!
  4. Totally agree, but that should have been specifically spelled out before the votes were cast. So add Walter Johnson, obviously, because he is the best pitcher ever. Then whom to delete? Not Harmon. Kirby is my favorite baseball player ever, so I can't take him off. I'd have to leave Tony O. on and take Carew off. Tough decision.
  5. Like, say, Vargas?
  6. Any player can be traded if the return makes it worthwhile. That's why Revere got traded for two pitchers, both of whom are now in the majors. As for Arcia and Meyer, both have too much potential value to be traded for a relief pitcher rental or for most catchers. They'd better stand pat, at least regarding that trade.
  7. Wow, that would be one for the medical journals.
  8. Ben Revere is a 2 1/2 tool player. Run? Yes. Catch? Yes. Throw? No. Hit? Yes, but only singles. Hit for power? No. He's very good at what he's good at but he's very bad (by major league standards) at what he's not good at.
  9. I still think Arcia will be a force in the lineup in a year or two. Picture this in 2017: Buxton, Santana, Sano, Vargas, Arcia, Dozier, Mauer, Hicks, catcher-to-be-named-later.
  10. Hardly ever is a trade suggested that would have any chance of actually taking place in the real world.
  11. I may be wrong but this is not how I understand it. I'm pretty sure that the 25-man roster as it stands on Aug. 31 is the 25-man roster that has to be used for the postseason. I believe the only two exceptions are DL-related. If a player is on the DL on Aug. 31 then that player may take the place of any other player. And if a player on the Aug. 31 roster is placed on the DL then any other player on the 40-man may be added.
  12. Instead of mediocrity I think a better word is parity.
  13. I'm sure the Brewers will ask for at least one and probably two players that would be on my untouchable list so I highly doubt he'll be coming this way.
  14. At the break: NL Central: +26: +28 v NL East, +1 v NL West, -3 v AL Central AL Central: +19: +5 v AL East, +11 v AL West, +3 v NL Central AL East: +3: -5 v AL Central, +2 v AL West, +6 v NL East AL West: -5: -2 v AL East, -11 v AL Central, +8 v NL West NL West: -8: +1 v NL East, -1 v NL Central, -8 v AL West NL East: -35: -28 v NL Central, -1 v NL West, -6 v AL East The AL Central appears to be a very strong division. For the Twins to be in this division and have the second best record in the league speaks highly of their performance so far this year.
  15. They have a double-header this Friday vs the Whities. Otherwise it appears that they'll have fewer off-days than us. Good for us.
  16. Heat index upper 90's.
  17. I'm pulling Gibson if I'm PM. Wicked hot day, comfortable lead, 4 days off coming up. Bullpen guys (even ours) can go the rest of the way.
  18. I don't know that I agree. If Arcia and Buxton show enough during the rest of this season to merit roster spots next year Hunter would be the 5th outfielder.
  19. The Tigers can't handle the Plouffe!
  20. I'm developing a nitpicky pet peeve. Baseball people, of all people, should be better at pronouncing hispanic names. In Spanish, s is pronounced s. Z is pronounced z. S is not pronounced z. Rosario is pronounced Rosario, not Rozario.
