  1. I always thought it should be hit 'em where they ai.
  2. Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now. -- Steven Wright
  3. So you dismiss my comment about concussions because I'm not an expert and then you dismiss Headfirst's criticism of you by saying you don't have to be an expert to comment. That's rich.
  4. I think the original post has too much conjecture about Perkins' attitude, especially the stinkeye comment. I'm not worried about his immediate future. He's been on the shelf for a bit and I think he's shaking of the rust OK. My guess is that he'll be very good for the rest of the season. I know it's off-topic but I'll also respond to gil4's comment about the Lindor double. It's well known that balls hit directly at an outfielder are the hardest to judge, the stadium lights are a factor on line drives to left field, and even if Rosario had judged it correctly off the bat the ball was far enough over his heat that it would have been very difficult to get in position to make the catch. Very few, if any, major league left fielders make that play.
  5. Their good records are due in part to the fact that the NL has 7 of the 8 worst teams in MLB, two of which are in their division. If the Twins were to have traded leagues with one of those two at the beginning of the season the Twins would probably be one of the NL wild cards and the Cubs or Pirates would probably be much less comfortable.
  6. Ah, you edited the mistake before I had a chance to call you on it.
  7. Fall who? Just trying to speed this along.
  8. Dick made a good point on the HBP. Kluber's on a pitch count, so why waste 4 on a IBB to Hunter when he can put him on base in 1 pitch?
  9. The umps won't hold this game up unless one of them gets washed away in a flash flood.
  10. Dozier goes oppo????? What other weird happenings are in store for us tonight?
  11. Dickbert are right. One must win down, 12 must wins to go.
  12. Someone in the truck messed up by not alerting them to that.
  13. I bought some used paint. It came in the shape of a house. (Courtesy Steven Wright)
  14. Dodged bullet right back at 'em.
  15. OK, pitching staff, let's keep 'em down.
  16. I'm with you all the way on that. Otis Redding was god.
  17. Surprised Cleveland isn't playing the infield in for Mauer's at bat.
  18. If you listen to '60's music you have been listening to them. They backed a lot of the Memphis soul acts of that era.
  19. In the Blues Brothers version of "Soul Man" John Belushi says, "Play it Steve!" at the same juncture that Sam Moore says it in the Sam And Dave version and to the same Steve (Cropper, that is).
  20. If the Twins were in the NL their 76-73 record would have them essentially out of the postseason. Of course, if they were in the NL they'd have had an easier schedule and would have a better record. The reason the Twins are still in the hunt is that the AL is experiencing a season of unusual parity. At this writing only Oakland is mathematically eliminated from the postseason. A 3-way tie for the last WC spot is very easy to envision. It all depends on which slightly-above-average team wins the right games during the next 13 or 14 days.
  21. Surprising and very interesting news. Surprising because I, like many, thought they'd not want to start his service time now. Interesting because this sends a message to Arcia and Hunter that they think he can do the job on the major league level. I think those two should plan their futures accordingly, Arcia to buckle down and work to become his best and Hunter to consider a new career path.
  22. MLB teams are allowed 7 coaches. If they want to hire Torii as a major league coach someone has to go. If the FO really feels they need to have him in the organization as a player then sign him to a minor league contract and make it clear that it means playing and mentoring in the minors unless there's a big problem at the major league level. It should be like they did with Jacque Jones in 2010, NOT like they did with Kubel and Bartlett last year.
  23. For an offensive lineman, strength is the most important thing. For a marathon runner it's endurance. For a floor exercise specialist in gymnastics it's flexibility. For a juggler it's hand-to-eye coordination. Hitting a baseball is a unique skill which probably has no analog in any other sport. For that reason it's probably nearly impossible to devise a workout regimen that will be effective for every player. Strength is certainly important but if an increase in strength slows reaction time and/or interferes with flexibility it's a net reduction in performance.
