The agreement was for the city to have its own system of Rule of Law, self-government, and freedom of speech, all of which have been severely curtailed by the Beijing government the past few years. It came to a head a couple of years ago when people occupied several major sites for months, facing down teargas, police brutality, and official collusion with violent gangsters. I'll be back in the streets tomorrow, so won't be around for the game. Xi Jin Ping is in town for the 'celebration,' and the usual gathering point in Victoria Park for the march, has been reserved for a bunch of bussed-in pro-Beijing jagoffs. Appreciate your good wishes in what's probably a Quixotic event, but I'm going to stand up just the same. Freedom. The first night of Occupy Central - 2014 Tiananmen Square Rally, last year
