  1. I'm still not convinced that an athletic, 23 year old with a lifetime of baseball experience cannot improve his defense at Short Stop if he set his mind to it. I feel that Polanco is the SS for time being, and blown away that the team that thought Sano could play RF doesn't think Polanco can play SS. Two wrongs obviously don't make a right- but I just don't understand the lack of urgency in getting him to figure it out. Polanco is young and can hit-- is he a primadonna who refuses to work on his defense? If so, then why not get rid of him?
  2. Something that's interesting to me is the amount of public philosophizing about this signing from both Breslow and the Twins. I can get behind a veteran reliever on an Minors deal, no problem. Just interesting to see the amount of public discussion about it as if it's more than that.
  3. I know Gordon, and Polanco, Vielma, Diaz are en route, but are there others?
  4. I wonder if Park has requested his release if he doesn't get picked up. If I were him, I'd rather be a Superstar in Korea than a AAA player in the US.
  5. Please tell me Garver isn't at first for any other reason than he's just helping out...
  6. Twins official site is mentioning his "versatility" every other sentence in their write-up. Mentioning that he plays SS, 2B, and 3B, which seems to contradict most of what I've read so far. In which case, it seems like they're trying to convince us that he's a valuable bench piece, while also ignoring the fact that we already have three guys on the bench who also play SS, 2B, and 3B.
  7. As I said in the previous thread-- It feels like they are DFAing guys with either more potential or higher upside in exchange for guys who either conflict with, or represent downgrades to, players who are already on the roster that aren't being DFA'd.
  8. The bottom line though is that we're DFAing players who most feel have potential or a higher ceiling for guys who either conflict with, or don't represent upgrades to already on the roster.
  9. Yes- but Light's ceiling and velocity outweigh Tonkin's value. So it's giving up on potential in favor of a guy who everyone is ready to see go.
  10. I lol'd at the same thing.
  11. Doesn't it seem though that this would make Polanco the odd man out? Also, if they acquire a pitcher for him then there's a spot in the pen open with Light's departure. Still-- why not Tonkin?
  12. Here's an interesting piece from a Giants blog about him: http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2016/3/30/11334052/sf-giants-2016-roster-ehire-adrianza
  13. Now I wonder if there's a deal in the works to move Polanco.
  14. Seems weird to DFA a flamethrower (a position of need) for slick short stop. I guess it's possible he's the new starting SS? And also, if he's not the starter-- we still have DanSan, which is also funny. Headscratcher.
  15. No, I know that. But as soon as Hick was verifiably not a hit-- it was probably pretty apparent that none of the other picks would have broken through at that point either. Right?
  16. I just looked through that. Obviously draft results take years to truly evaluate-- but someone should have lost their job immediately once it became clear that Hicks wasn't a star, and there were literally no other fruits from the draft yield. Thanks for sharing. I'll send you the chiropractic bill from having my shaking-head neck muscles adjusted. ***EDIT*** Also, It's striking for me to see that there are two legitimate big leaguers on that list who didn't sign with the Twins, but have gone on the be impactful at the MLB level in other organizations (Wong, Springer). WHY COULDN'T WE SIGN THEM?!?!?!
  17. Some thoughts- right or wrong, I guess. --- I've seen a few non-Twins fans on message boards refer to Park as the next Ortiz. While this is such a tired refrain (and a sore one, to boot), I think teams tend to regret letting go of power before it has bloomed. That's really what happened with Papi-- granted, he's been surrounded by exceptional teams in Boston-- his ability to put the ball over the wall is his asset- same with Park. I could see this being a regrettable move in the end. --- I'm glad that roster space is being conserved for guys who need the at bats, ie- Vargas, Sano, etc. But if Park see's his potential blossom elsewhere, and I think it really could-- I think it's fair to say that this would potentially go down as one of the sorrier byproducts/casualties of the contract-that-shall-not-be-named. --- By the day, I see less potential for the Twins to make a move for an FA slugger. Why cut cost, to add to cost. I think Park's potential is more intriguing then Carter's or Napoli's. If the point would be to have a tradeable asset at the deadline--A relatively small gamble on Park could potentially give us a significantly more valuable asset to move. Just a thought dump.
  18. If this is for Morneau, heads will roll.
  19. Agreed- If Park performs this year, he'll have more value at the deadline (at roughly $4mm/year) than a Napoli, who is older and will probably command around $5mm (guesstimate).
  20. Right- and he hit 12 bombs in his first few months in a new league, while adjusting to culture, pitching, etc. His numbers were abysmal, but I'd love to see what he can with another year under his belt without the injured wrist.
  21. I don't either. Park passes the eye test as a more seasoned performer to me. Vargas is a true DH in my eyes in that he's a switch hitter, and Park profiles as a RH platoon with Joe, so I see significant value to him there. Also, his defense is better than Vargas at first. It's still unkown versus unproven, but Park still feels like an asset to me. I hope he ends up in AAA, and back in MN by mid summer if he's mashing.
  22. Right, so our strongest potential platoon partner for Mauer against LHP is gone? Does this mean he will hit waivers and then report to AAA?
  23. Park DFA'd for Beslile. Didn't see that coming.
  24. Any reason we wouldn't take a flier on this guy? He's only 28, throws gas, and has had success at the MLB level. Potentially a bit of a headcase, but don't all teams have head cases? Currently a free-agent, and I haven't seen his name mentioned anywhere, unless I'm missing something. Seems like it could be a depth move if nothing else and would represent a higher ceiling than some of our current SP's.
  25. I remember it well. I remember the hype around talking to the Big Hurt or Piazza. Thomas may have actually put us over the top that season, if Liriano stayed healthy. I also remember the 400 Bar on the West Bank had Rondell White nights on Tuesdays in 2006 where High Life would be the cost of whatever his batting average was that day. Great promotion.
