  1. I can't seem to find it right now, but I think it was on these very boards within the last day or two. But it was speculated that since the Twins are the reigning worst-record holder, we would have first dibs on certain players left off of opening day rosters at the end of Spring Training. The example given was that the Twins had put in a claim on JD Martinez in 2014 (I believe) after Spring Training, but ultimately the deal didn't happen. A- Can somebody speak to this system that I can't seem to find nor put into words? What is it? How does it work? B- Also, what intriguing players are around the league that are currently bubble MLB players who may fall to the Twins in a situation like the one mentioned above? Thanks! **FOUND THE QUOTE** "I hope the 25th man is not currently on the roster. The Twins will have the top claim at a time when all teams are making difficult roster decisions. They had an early claim in 2014 when JD Martinez was waived towards the end of spring training. They opted to roster Kubel and Bartlett instead." - Jorgenswest
  2. Any Rule V pitcher better be happy with a batboy role...
  3. Tommy Field with the big thump. According to my thought process- he's a lock for the DH role, as he has half as many bombs as Park.
  4. DanSan with the big thump. According to my thought process- he's a lock for the DH role, as he has half as many bombs as Park.
  5. I like to call him "Ben Nintendo."
  6. Cool story! I know a few Scanlons in MN. Wonder if there's any relation.
  7. TJ confirmed.
  8. I feel like I've heard for months that a young goal scorer was a target-- not that goals have been hard to come by. E.Kane and RNH are names I've heard-- thought I'm not sure it makes much sense at this time. I'd love to see either in green one of these days though.
  9. I hope this hasn't been touched on already, cuz I just got curious and was looking somewhere to ask-- but is it possible the Wild still have moves to make before tomorrow's deadline? What is rumored?
  10. Agreed. I wonder what's being done to rectify at this time? If I can see it, it's probably pretty glaring.

Thanks for the insight, Brock. How then does an organization evaluate player or performance during spring training? Also, am I incorrect to assume that spring training is ever used for player evaluation or is it solely just easy reps to get back up to speed?
  12. He's played in 3 of the 4 games so far and has blasted 2 Park Bangs and a slew of hits. Sure seems like the Twins are giving him every opportunity to show he belongs and he's doing everything he can to prove it. I read somewhere that he had mentioned that he'd spent the offseason preparing for the MLB fastball. Maybe someone with a trained eye can watch his at-bats and determine if that's true or not. At this rate however, I can see him going north with the team if Vargas doesn't do some seriously heavy lifting to cement his role, as it's been nothing but the Park Show so far. I also believe he plays a better, more athletic first base than Vargas and his RH swing could play well with Mauer in a true platoon situation. I just wanted to mention it, as I haven't seen much said yet about his performance yet. He seems to be forcing the Twins hand, and has created a nice epilogue to his DFA last month.
  13. I always get the impression with articles like this that we're being primed to accept that he will have a role on the team. He may even be a great addition, but I always sense that the PR team realized it may have been read as a strange move and really want to tell us why it's not.
  14. Isn't it though? How do these things happen?
  15. This must've been Plouffe's job in previous years.
  16. I was a recruiter for awhile did placement of Temps. Nightmares. Somehow though, I don't see Falvey no-showing his new job on the first day of the season...
  17. Also, a weird thing for the Director Of Communications to share?
  18. I understand people "not seeing him as a short stop." But the fact remains that the parent club had a deficiency at the position, and he is an able bodied athlete who's value could improve exponentially by getting innings at the position. You hear all the time about players who improve their defense with repetition and commitment- look at Trevor Plouffe. If you like the kid, value his bat, and want him to stick at the MLB roster-- you should give him every chance to succeed at a position where that is most likely to happen, and where he's most needed.
  19. I suppose one could even make the argument that bringing Mauer up as a catcher despite his body type was ill-advised, and could make the point that if he had converted to 3B after being drafted we'd still be talking our future HOF 3rd baseman and face of the franchise.
  20. I keep shaking my head about this. It's just such a humorous and silly blunder that no one caught for literally a year. Also, don't you think Polanco- seeing that his best natural fit would likely be at SS, would advocate for himself at some point? An extreme, but fairly analogous situation would be Berrios getting to the bigs as a touted pitcher and the Twins finding out that he had only played first base in the minors. I have absolutely no idea how this happened.
  21. Any Rowson spottings? Haven't heard a thing about the guy working with the hitters and I'm eager to hear/see any changes in overall philosophy.
  22. Isn't it amazing how people outside the organization can sometimes see things so clearly?
