    Making more than 1 major league signing should have been realistic. The Braves had little veteran trade chips and still managed to make 3 trades and multiple FA signings.... The Brewers made more than 1 signing and traded players... It's just not normal to stand pat following up from a bad season.

    Yes. Concur. I also don't want to get into the discussion of what the Cubs can do compared to the Twins. In general, reverting to status quo after 103 losses (96 projected losses) shouldn't be a normal thing to do.

    You can see why there would be some hostility, whether or not you believe or show it... Not too many 100+ loss teams go into the following season with the essentially the same roster. They set expectations from the get go "Don't get attached to your favorite Twins players" and then nothing happens.

    Yep. 2016 was not like 2011 where Mauer, Morneau, Span, and others went down with injury during the season. Since we're diving into psychology 101 on this article, Nick's "framing effect" is sure showing an "optimism bias" heading into spring training..... After we got over our "endowment effect" with Dozier, and choosing "status quo bias" instead, "negativity bias" is settling in with some of us. As much as I want to jump on the "bandwagon effect" I can't do it yet.... I guess that's the "curse of knowledge"....

    I'm disappointed there are no pictures of Chief.... We all know he has a flip phone and no Twitter, so someone else had to do it for him In all seriousness, thank you to John and Aaron for recording the session so out of towners like me could listen to the show. LaTroy sounds like a guy I'd love to have a beer with if given the chance.

    No problem, we're all just spit-balling here. You and I seem to be close on the total comp number of $85-95 million for this hypothetical Buxton extension.

    Yeah $8 MM for the first year of arbitration is a bit aggressive. Hell, Machado and Harper were at $5 million for their first arbitration year before jumping up to $11 and $13 MM respectively this year.

    Regardless if the Twins extend Buxton or Sano now, or 3-4 years down the line, I hope both are in Twins uniforms through their age 30-31 season. After that, I probably won't care if someone else pays them $$$$ for their declining years (unless they're HOF bound, of course)

    I don't know if they'd need to double the numbers right now. They're both going to make ~$500k the next 2 years (unless Sano is 1 year ahead in service time? Didn't look it up) then anywhere between $40-60 million in arbitration if they're really good. Buying out the first year or 2 of FA would be where it gets very expensive.

    Buxton and Sano would be relatively safe extension candidates. Buxton should continue to provide elite defense, and if the bat comes around, even better. Sano may be playing out of position right now, but once Mauer is gone he could be a 30+ HR 1B or DH. 7 years, let's say $85-95 million a piece.

    That's how it is down here... If you want space and value, you have to search in suburbs on the outskirts of town (Cedar Park, Round Rock, Pfluegerville) , or in the parts of the city that have not been gentrified. In most desired neighborhoods, $500k and up is the going rate.

    As much as I'd like to find a condo or smaller house so I can pay myself back instead of a property management company, I also love the neighborhood I live in... Hard to justify moving out when there's 50+ bars and restaurants within walking distance, and Top Golf across the street.

    Since this is top of mind as I just had a meeting with my financial advisor yesterday.... Wins in 2016: Microsoft - Brock explained it best. Recovered well from their failed attempt in mobile. Hoping for more growth Union Pacific Corp - Big y/y growth from $69 a share to $110 today. Time Warner Inc - Bought in at $70 a share - $96 today. Even though they have the worst customer service on planet Earth. I'm also waning about Apple.... since I don't have enough shares to make a difference, we'll ride out the waves.

    Also, this is a little too early yet, but with Trump looking to spend $1 Trillion on infrastructure (most likely going to be $300-400 Billion instead) it may be worth looking into specific companies that will get the work to improve bridges, roads, etc. No idea who that company(ies) could be right now.

    With the impending reduction in corporate tax rate, I'll be looking to invest in more U.S. equities than I have in the last 2-3 years.
