  1. It's all about perception, right? Since Greinke struggled a bit in his first season with the Diamondbacks it appears to be a bad contract. Meanwhile, Max Scherzer has been Cy Young caliber since arriving in Washington at $30 million a season. For players like Greinke, I'm willing to bet he bounces back to top of the rotation stats next season.
  2. There were 8 pitchers in FA alone last year that received 5 or more years for a contract. The youngest was Mike Leake at age 28. Everyone else (Price, Grienke, Cueto, Zimmerman, Shark, Wei-Yen Chen) were 30 and older... 2015 we saw Lester and Scherzer receive 6+ year deals... And a few 4 year deals for pitchers who were 33 and older. You could go back year after year and see countless examples of pitchers well beyond their peak years receiving multi-year deals.
  3. Yes. And the contract length has been nearly industry standard for the last 10+ years of free agency. I'd be shocked to find examples of upper echelon pitchers NOT receiving 5-7 year deals.
  4. David Price - 6 / $217 million signed at age 31 Max Scherzer - 7 / $210 million signed at age 31 Steven Stasburg - 6 / $175 million signed at age 28 CC Sabathia - 6 / $161 million signed at age 28 in 2008 Justin Verlander - 6 / $180 million signed at age 30 Felix Hernandez - 6 / $175 million signed at age 27 5-7 years has been the going rate for upper echelon pitchers for a long time now.
  5. Can't see the design anywhere. I clicked on this article on the forums page... Maybe that's the problem?

  7. Celebrating the ribbon cutting of a new Tim Horton's in Dinkytown, eh?
  8. I think we would all enjoy the crawl so much more if your boy, Patty Dean was on the mound. Just for old times sake.
  9. Congrats to Beresford. Hope he makes his impact, even if he plays sparingly.
  10. The way ESPN and others pumped up Hackenberg, I figured he had at least 1 good season. Doesn't appear to be the case. Take this as you want, Hackenberg's QB rating in college: 121. Leidner: 123. Similar completion percentage too. The NFL has such a shortage of good QBs it's not out of the realm of possibility that a team drafts Leidner within the first 2-3 rounds. Whoever does draft him, good luck. They're going to need it.
  11. Only saw the box score this morning. Must have been really sloppy to only muster a 7 point victory over a 2-11 team last season. Sounds like Leidner still has a long ways to go in order for the passing game to be taken seriously. On a positive note, Rodney Smith! If he stays healthy, he's in store for a monster season.
  12. Shortly after your rap concert at the Minnesota Twins County Fair.
  13. By the way, thanks to Ash, I've been on a Cake kick all afternoon.... Forgot how great of a band they are. Anytime I play this song in the car, all of a sudden I'm driving 30 MPH over the speed limit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVfOWz7Z_5I
  14. This GIF is hitting way too close to home today. Who's recording me at work?
  15. In order to not sound silly at a bar, how do you pronounce that? eye-parita? i-pee-eh-rita?
  16. Are you using your patented recipe for the margaritas tonight?
  17. True. That's too nice to call it a game lately. Until batting practice begins.
  18. Good pace on the thread today! Real good work. May be 10+ pages by game time.
  19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qkj8tjW90CY It's still a thing! Nice! Went on this ride numerous times when our family went to Disney World.
  20. You and I could get along on a road trip if you're a fan of Cake!
  21. Is that ride still going on at DisneyWorld? That was one of my favourites
  22. No doubt. Erv's had his share of clunker 5+ ERA seasons too. All it takes is replacement level production the first 3 months in 2017 from being stuck with him for his age 35 season. We got 18 months of good Ervin. I'm not sold we're going to witness another 2 good years from him.
  23. I'm on board with trading both Dozier and Santana this off-season. There's not much of a difference from my point of view having 1 solid pitcher and 4 question marks and 5 question marks. All of those question marks are more than likely going to keep the team from competing in the near future anyway. I'd much rather get out from the last 2 years on Erv's contract and try this rebuild/non-rebuild again.
