    Agreed. There will be plenty of reps for Granite or whoever is the 4th OF. It felt like every day that one of D Santana, Grossman, or Schafer was in the lineup...

    As Steve posted above, my priorities this offseason would be the same. Holland is the top target, followed up by Storen or Feliz. If none of them are signed, then go with a closer by committee and play the match up. I'd rather have Chargois, Rogers, Tonkin, or whoever come in when it's favorable to do so. This bullpen should be very fluid and not have defined roles at the beginning of the season.

    I will be cheering heavily for the Cubs. Then hope Falvey takes out the Dodgers PBO for a night out on the town. Buy him enough drinks that he offers Maeda for Dozier. Easy enough!

    It would take multiple Brinks trucks full of money to get a big name coach to Minnesota... For a guy like Les Miles to take this job, maybe $7 mill a season? I just don't see it. They're going to need to take a chance on a coach at a smaller school again. Perhaps the NDSU coach would be interested.

    If you're joining the thread now, here's a copy/paste list of all players eligible for 40 man addition from Jeremy's OP Catchers: Mitch Garver, Stuart Turner, Rainis Silva, Kevin Garcia. Infielders: Engelb Vielma, Ryan Walker, Jorge Fernandez, Rafael Valera, Amaurys Minier. Outfielders: Zach Granite, Daniel Palka. Pitchers: Aaron Slegers, Ryan Eades, Fernando Romero, Brandon Peterson, Brian Gilbert, Lewis Thorpe, Williams Ramirez, Cameron Booser, C.K. Irby. Some players who have already been eligible for the Rule 5 draft that may merit consideration: Jason Wheeler, Niko Goodrum, Travis Harrison, Zack Jones (again), Felix Jorge.

    I'm sure there will be a new article about this eventually. Now that the season is over, has anyone's opinions changed on who to protect and not to protect?

    Agreed. I could see a role for Vargas if he mashed RHP as a LH hitter. An MLB career .693 OPS with a 30.7% K% as a LH hitter leaves very little to be desired. Add on top of that he's provides minimal defensive value... I'll take the chance on Park over Vargas.

    Very much open to exploring the market for both Erv and Dozier. If the Twins can get an established MLB starter for Dozier, or near ready MLB prospect for Santana I'd say do it. I'm tired of Plouffe.... No longer want him taking at-bats away from other players, and don't believe in the dream that he could be traded at the deadline. The dream scenario is if Mauer decides enough is enough and retires. That dream will probably not come true, so his role is demoted to PT. 300-350 at-bats should be the target.

    Investing in the defense by finding a defensive catcher and SS, absolutely agree. Rolling with Mejia, and the trade acquisitions from Dozier/Santana, I'm not on board with. I'd rather have those guys in AAA beating the door down deserving of a call-up instead of planning on them making the rotation sink or swim. EDIT: At least at the beginning of the season... By June/July, it may be a different story. Just feel like we've been burned too much over the last couple of seasons by assuming the awesome RP and SP prospects are just a couple months away... We're still waiting for Burdi/Melotakis/Reed/Jones when supposedly they were ready by June 2015.

    In fairness, what were the other options besides the FA mercenaries this season? I was all on board for Jose Berrios receiving the Kris Bryant treatment and getting him up ASAP. Unfortunately he was not ready for the MLB, and was the team's closest prospect to being ready. I think we're all arguing for the same thing... To take a chance on a lottery ticket such as Brett Anderson to potentially flip for something else in July. Maybe a guy like him does get a 3 year deal, and if so, good luck to whichever team made that decision. Personally, I think this team needs to hedge their bets with better alternatives than Pat Dean and Andrew Albers in case if Mejia/Gonsalves/Berrios implodes in 2017.

    They've been playing a lot of kids the last 2 years... Hell, they could pencil an entire lineup of players 27 and under if they want to. I'm just not that comfortable penciling kids in rotation spots without hedging our bet with someone else. Still feeling the burn of Duffey and Berrios' very bad seasons with Dean and Albers as a backup plan.

    Agreed. This last season was particularly bad on the injury side, but most any season, a team needs 5-6 MLB quality starters, and 3-4 fringe MLB players (top prospects) to prevent the Albers and Deans of the world from seeing an MLB field. Right now the Twins have 4 MLB experienced potentials (E San, Gibson, Santiago, May) and 3 fringe MLB starters (Mejia, Berrios, Gonsalves) I've purposely left out Hughes until there's more clarity with his injury, and I don't know what to think about Duffey. I'd prefer not to have a Duffey/Berrios MLB implosion again, so Mejia/Gonsalves should be handled more conservatively. I see 1 or 2 short term fixes in the rotation until some of the fringe MLB players force the issue. If they do force the issue, then a Brett Anderson type can be flipped for something else in July.

    I'm absolutely on board with this. A couple of things though: 1. Is he going to post this off-season? It's been very quiet on that front. 2. The last thing I see on MLB Trade Rumors (granted this was from May) is Otani wants to go to a team that will use him as both a pitcher and hitter. That screams NL, or the Twins could be the first AL team to use him as a DH on his off-days I suppose. There's a lot of hype behind Otani, and more than likely he's going to shatter Dice-K and Darvish's posting fee record.

    Gamble on someone like Brett Anderson in FA - low salary, high incentives if he stays healthy. It could turn out to be a Rich Harden situation where he never sees the field as a Twin, but they need to do something. Improve the bullpen and C. Move on from Centeno / Suzuki and make a play for someone like Castro, Wieters. Trade Dozier for SP help. What's Falvey's track record in the international market? The Twins have never been in on signing Cuban free agents before. Could he change that?

    I've seen enough of Tracy Claeys running this program. There was a sliver of hope that Kill would be the guy to take the program to the next level... Claeys is certainly not the guy to do that. They're going to have to massively overpay a Les Miles type to come on board. Or throw another dart for a coach at a smaller school (maybe the NDSU coach?) and cross fingers it works. As far as the game yesterday, the offense was abysmal. It's borderline criminal to have Leidner throw 33 passes, and only give the ball to Brooks 10 times. Embrace who you are, a heavy run team, and give Brooks/Williams the damn ball.

    Not sure what you mean by real value? Teams and fans alike target top 10 organization prospects in trade proposals. He just turned 22 years old today. There's still plenty of value for Kohl Stewart today.

    We don't know if Stewart will develop into an MLB pitcher. He still has value for this organization. That value may be including him in a trade for a better player. If that's the case, works for me.

    Big fan of LaMonte Wade. His approach at the plate drawing more walks than strikeouts should help him immensely as he moves up in the organization.
