    Shame on the MLB for allowing this ownership group to take over Miami. Nothing has changed from past ownership. There's really no excuse for Miami to act like a small market team.

    Harvey's trade value isn't nearly as high as you may think. Gunnarthor posted in the Offseason Rumors thread that Harvey for Profar is being discussed per John Heyman on twitter. Harvey's a shell of his former self. I will be quite upset trading Dozier for someone like him.

    After looking at this chart you put together, thanks for that, I'm still very interested in several names. All of them would be great, but we can already rule out Davis for being too expensive. Holland in his 2nd year post TJS is especially intriguing IMO. I wanted him last year, and nothing has changed from my interest level. I really like Shaw as well. He throws heat, has 5 straight years of 70+ appearances, and to use one of Gardy's favorite words, proven. It also doesn't hurt taking talent from an AL Central opponent.

    Falvine are probably "crushing it" in other aspects of their jobs that we as fans don't really care about. They built an actual analytics department, hired different coaches that made an immediate impact, and showed more creativity in trades than the previous regime. As far as moves that have impacted the MLB team, call me a stickler. I'm waiting for more than a Castro signing, and a couple of trades for prospects in the 20-30 range before jumping on the crushing it! bandwagon.

    Boy, that doesn't sound like a contending rotation to me. If the Twins don't go after a top of the rotation SP, they better have a boat load of depth. If Mejia and/or Gonsalves fails, they're back to the Adam Wilk's and Tim Melville's of the world.

    I'd be more disappointed if I was a fan of the only West Coast team *cough* Oakland *cough* left off of his wish list. Ohtani to Minnesota is as much of a pipe dream as going on a date with Scarlett Johansson, or Brad Pitt. Whatever floats your boat!

    I'll believe it when I see it... The Twins made it a priority 4-5 years ago to acquire more "power arms" for the bullpen. We've seen one (Curtiss) so far.

    I don't think that's a bad thing at all... Historically, the team experiences bad luck handing MLB jobs to prospects on a silver platter. Let Gonsalves, Romero, Gordon, etc. earn their way to a promotion. It's still a little too early to count on them making an impact in the MLB right away.

    Your wish is the U's command. Croft will be granted his release from the program. He also says he was unfairly suspended by Fleck earlier this season. He will not be missed.

    I would suggest watching the 60 Minutes interview with Ohtani back in April. Any preconceptions you have about him and entitlement would be eliminated. He's a very humble person that lives in a modest dorm in Japan, so I'm not sure why you feel he has a huge sense of entitlement? What teams has he asked to write him love letters? You mean when his agent asked how a team would use him? That's kind of important to him, since he is coming over early and missing out on nearly $100 million to be a 2-way player.... Honestly I think you're way off base on Ohtani.

    Yeah I agree Park's signing had very little to do with Sano moving to RF. It had everything to do with Plouffe staying in the organization and TR valuing his defense over Sano's. At the time there wasn't any question Plouffe was a better fielder than Sano.

    Coaches live or die by their systems, I get that. How is his system so difficult that it takes 2-3 years to implement? And why couldn't he call more complicated plays in this "system" other than a draw play for 0 yards?

    Looking back, I'm guessing Fleck wished he wouldn't have taken back Croft. Clearly there were issues all year long with him. Even if Green looked terrible in practice, it's not like Croft looked any better during a game. The offense led by him became an immovable object. There's no room for players like Croft on a rebuilding team.

    This program doesn't have a choice but to give him 3 more years. Hopefully we just watched them hit rock bottom. The offense is miles away from being competitive until they find a QB.

    Are there rumblings in the organization about Diaz's weight/conditioning/diet? Or is that only reserved for Sano? 250 lbs already at 21.... He's going to be a big boy.

    Yep, as Mike said, every sports team goes year to year on payroll. That's one of the biggest myths in sports fandom thinking their favorite team's owner saves money from previous years to make a big splash in the future. I am rooting for the Twins to break open the piggy bank this winter instead of waiting until 2019. All of the big boys (Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc.) are waiting until 2019 so they can wildly overspend for Harper, Machado, Kershaw, and others. The Pohlads are going to be dumbfounded in 2019 when these players break salary scales as we know it.

    Which would be ideal for players like Diaz, Stewart, Reed, etc. They could still make the 40 man roster if they prove themselves down the road. Or last the entire 2018 season off the 40 man and not waste an option year.

    I'm excited about the decisions tonight. The 40 man is valuable real estate, and it appears that a few spots are open for free agents (IFA included for Otani to MN believers!) And/or trades. Rule 5 hasn't proven to be impactful in recent years. More often than not a player is returned to their original team within the season.

    Doesn't look like the QB dilemma will be answered by someone outside the program now. Brennan Armstrong rescinded his commitment from Minnesota earlier this year and chose Virginia today. That leaves the Gophers with zero QB commits in the latest class. Barring a miracle, the Gophers will lose next week to the Badgers for the 14th year in a row. They'll end the season 5-7, with a 2-7 record in the Big 10. Fleck so far has made this team and program irrelevant again...

    If any team signs Arrieta to that estimated contract, good luck to them. I have a feeling he's going to fall off the proverbial cliff within the next 1-2 years.

    Concur. The only other person I have a remote interest in is Pineda. Overall he's pretty meh though.

    Croft: 2 for 11 - 43 yards - 3 INTs - 6 dropped passes from WRs. Ouch.

    He had one major arm issue, resulting in Tommy John back in 2015. That caused him to miss all of that season plus a portion of 2016 recovering. His velocity has actually improved after he returned from surgery, from 93.4 MPH in 2014 to 94.7 MPH in 2017. Besides the Tommy John, he's been durable a la Ervin, so I'm not that concerned about him being 31 years old. He should have 3 more good seasons in him at least. Now, it's still not certain whether this is realistic so I'm holding back from future heartbreak.... If this is truly realistic, I'd be ecstatic.
