  1. Concur from my perspective in Austin. I guess Dallas could be perceived as a high end city because it's littered with what we call '$30,000 millionaires'. The ones acting like hot shot millionaires but only make $30k... Houston is a concrete beast of a city with 7+ million people. Worth visiting, but I wouldn't want to live there.
  2. What do you do with a bobble head once you acquire a bobble head? I ask that as someone who has probably 10 of them packed somewhere in a storage unit.
  3. We're also starting a protest in a furniture store later today! It's called "Bummin' it for Bumgarner" We will refuse to get off of the couches in the showroom until the Twins trade for him! Hmm, this may take a few days.... So we're switching up the location to IKEA! We'll stay nourished on sweedish meatballs until something happens!
  4. I forgot about that. Great point. At the very least, wait until whatever that date is to get the additional year of control. Like you though I want both of those players to get a month or 2 of AAA experience before considering a call up.
  5. Right, Berrios struggled mightily in the majors even with sparkly AAA stats. So Romero and Gonsalves are different and do well in the majors with no AAA experience to think of? I don't think some realize how huge of an ask it is to jump from AA to MLB as a pitcher.
  6. Exactly. I will praise the regime when they do something well, and criticize when they blunder. I'm not happy they "tried their best" to get the only player they specifically targeted to sign this winter. They didn't get it done, and it's a failure. Simple as that.
  7. Because it's more realistic than finding the magical #1 pitcher. Do you think Archer's getting traded anytime soon? I don't. They can continue to search for a #1 pitcher and look for a more realistic target like McHugh.
  8. Right now there doesn't appear to be any plan at #4 or 5 in the rotation other than throwing numbers at the problem. So I would say they have holes throughout the rotation. The Twins' priority should be acquiring any pitcher who projects to be better short term than Slegers, Jorge, Gonsalves, Hughes, etc. Which shouldn't be that hard to do.
  9. FWIW, Lavelle E Neal 3 was just on 9 to noon with PA, and he said there's a "zero percent" chance the Twins sign Arrieta.
  10. I don't think that's fair to say at all. Darvish was the hope being sold all winter long... We discussed creative ways to sign him, discussed signing him regardless of the price, broke him down to the studs, and discussed the open windows Minnesota has to make a move such as this. It sounds like you got inside information weeks ago to make this news easier to handle. Many of us simpletons that followed this all winter just learned about it yesterday. When we were sold hope on him all winter and it doesn't happen aren't we allowed to be frustrated about it?
  11. I'd prefer forfeiting every game in April... That way ALL of our pitchers save wear and tear on their arms! Games in April are silly anyways.
  12. Well, if he doesn't opt-out, then they're on the hook for the terms they agreed to this off-season. In regards to Darvish I think he will produce positive contributions to his team later in his career either in the rotation or bullpen. If we're talking about bad contracts in general, most every team can afford 1-2 on a team. Is Hughes' relatively dead money hindering the Twins from going after Darvish types in FA?
  13. I guess now I'd just sign 2-3 pitchers on one year deals. Take your pick of the litter from Jason Vargas, Tillman, Garcia, Cashner, Hellickson...
  14. We'll be having a pow-wow at the park later on today, where we'll be praying to the baseball gods to save Graterol's arm from future major surgeries... All are welcome!
  15. The upside is big with Baddoo. He is pretty ripped at 195 pounds. Looking forward to seeing pictures of him in Fort Myers!
  16. I'm quoting spycake from the Ervin Santana Surgery thread below. I was also hoping they could skip the 5th starter in April like they did last year. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they have that opportunity this season.
  17. Out of curiosity, why are you so down on Garcia? He's not a guy I'd offer a long term contract to, but I'll gladly take him on a one year deal. Take the projections with a grain of salt, but here's how Garcia looks compared to Lynn and Cobb. GARCIA: B-Ref - 155 IP - 4.35 ERA - 7.7 K/9 - 3.3 BB/9 Steamer - 168 IP - 4.24 ERA - 7.3 K/9 - 3.25 BB/9 - 2.3 fWAR LYNN: B-Ref - 153 IP - 3.65 ERA - 7.9 K/9 - 3.7 BB/9 Steamer - 150 IP - 4.66 ERA - 7.6 K/9 - 3.65 BB/9 - 1.3 fWAR COBB: B-Ref - 152 IP - 4.20 ERA - 7.1 K/9 - 2.7 BB/9 Steamer - 133 IP - 4.43 ERA - 6.77 K/9 - 2.53 BB/9 - 1.7 fWAR I wish B-Ref had projected bWAR totals but I didn't see it. Overall from these projections they all profile to make the same kind of impact. It may be the right move to sign Garcia for 1 year instead of locking up Cobb or Lynn for 4 years a piece.
  18. Concur. That kid was the star of that ad. I haven't watched that commercial since whenever season that debuted. Still makes me laugh!
  19. Did you try Malta Regional? Welcome to Twins Daily!
  20. The worst part about the Super Bowl? Those CGI cyborg-looking renditions of Tom Brady and Nick Foles.
  21. The refs kept the flag in their pocket, that's for sure. 0 holding penalties for both teams, and 1 sack total. That's an odd combination.
