  1. Let’s just say all 13 teams team up and create a network on Amazon Prime… Sure, you’re going to get existing baseball fans to subscribe. But you’re probably not getting new eyes on the sport. Apple TV has an MLS package available to purchase that I have no interest in pursuing. If I could watch their content on CBS first, and decide I like it, then maybe I would purchase the MLS package.
  2. Agreed. They’re not going to receive the lump sum from the RSN anymore for exclusive rights. I don’t know how realistic this is, but they should open it up and negotiate with existing cable/satellite providers, over the air channels, YouTube TV, Hulu, etc. The idea is to make it so simple to watch their content no matter who you use as a TV provider.
  3. Yeah, the solution has to be multi-pronged. Work a deal to get the games on an over the air channel, and nurture the relationship with cable/satellite companies. I haven’t been able to find any subscriber numbers for Arizona, but the Padres have 40,400 paid subscribers to their direct to consumer product. The Padres are making roughly $4.5 mill from streaming. That’s not gonna pay the bills. Edit: Correction it’s 45,400 paid subscribers
  4. Kudos to the Royals. They were free falling just as quickly as the Twins for a while.
  5. 3 AL Central teams and the Yankees remain. As expected
  6. How Tommy “Windmill” Watkins survived the purge we will never know.
  7. They better get on that plan because Diamond Sports doesn’t want to play ball anymore…
  8. You’re missing the point. Their stated goal was to eliminate blackouts and have the games widely available. This last season was the opposite of that.
  9. You’re being too kind to Derek Falvey IMO. He did a poor job allocating the budget. When the margins are razor thin, you can’t keep a $10 million RF when there were MLB ready options in the minors. When the margins are razor thin, you’ve got to hit on marginal FAs. Jay Jackson $3 million utter failure. DeSclafini $4 million didn’t throw a single pitch for us. Margot $4 million failure. Trevor “Wild Pitch” Richards at the trade deadline.
  10. Correa gets my vote for team MVP. Highest WAR on the team for both B-Ref and FanGraphs. We had no answer for replacing him when he was injured.
  11. If Dave St Peter worked in a marketing/demand generation role at any other company with these results, he would have been fired years ago. Unfortunately he has a lifetime pass to the Twins Country Club. I’m very concerned that he is leading the TV contract negotiations. He is so far behind the times it’s crazy.
  12. Regardless, 100% yes to bring back Nelson Cruz as either bench coach or hitting coach if he’s interested in those roles.
  13. I don’t know if this is a Mandela Effect but I could have sworn he was signed by the Dodgers to be a hitting consultant for their minor leagues. Per his Wikipedia, On May 17, 2024, MLB hired Cruz as a consultant to the league. His full title was listed as 'special advisor for baseball operations,' with the intent for Cruz to serve as a liaison for MLB on topics in Latin America.
  14. Not exactly surprising. The offense looked good sometimes. When it was off, it was unwatchable.
  15. Sands and Jax were both spectacular this season. I do wonder if they will ask one of them to build up stamina and return to the rotation? Morneau was talking about Jax’s goal to get back in the rotation during the Marlins’ series.
  16. This is a well researched and well written post. It can’t be overstated how much of a PR disaster the last 12 months have been for the Twins. The TV debacle really pissed me off as a fan. They challenged people to go find something else to do with their time and I did. This season was the least amount of baseball I’ve watched since the dark days of 2011-2014. I think it was a cowardly move by Joe Pohlad to speak for the first time all year without cameras during the Vikings and Packers game. He didn’t want further attention to his comments. And he mentioned the word business way more than championship. Basically every business entity the Pohlad family has given Joe to operate has been run into the ground. Sold for pennies on the dollar.
  17. Thanks for putting the numbers together John. Once again, the Twins won’t be able to look at free agency to fill needs beyond the ST invite type players. No trade clauses can be waived by the player… So does Correa want to be here knowing he will take up 25-30% of the payroll? Does Royce Lewis want to be here for the long term? Judging by his recent comments I doubt it. Lots of tough decisions to be made this offseason.
  18. Let’s not repeat that 2nd half ever again this season. 4-0 baby! 3-0 in the NFC, 1-0 in the division. I don’t think even the rosiest glasses wearing fans would have guessed this outcome.
  19. That’s a catch
  20. Where would we be without this defense??
  21. Now let’s please grind out this clock
  22. Phew! Murphy INT and now we can breathe for a second.
  23. Haha still no
