    How good he is NOW and how good he PROJECTS to be in 2022 are not the same thing. MLB experience and lessons learned can lead to enormous IMPROVEMENT. We just had our best HS player sign for $913,000, $700,000 above his slot value, because he is 6'4" 155# at 17yrs-old and PROJECTS to become 6'5" 220# at 22 yrs-old. He isn't being paid for who he is now, but what he projects to become. Those two things are related, but they are not identical.

I'm saying I have absolutely zero confidence that it will ever that year as long as TR is the GM" So you have decided that whatever TR decides to do will be wrong, including promoting Berrios or trading prospects for Jepsen. Ryan's original mortal sin is being employed.

    I didn't forget. Fryer is one of only three healthy major league catchers in the organization. Free Agents are automatically off the roster until/unless the are re-signed. Fien and Nunez are effective MLB players, who in the worst case are trade-able. IMO Ryan made the right decision on Berrios,( and Jepsen by the way). I'll take the evaluations of Ryan and his staff ahead of the amateur scouts who I have read here.

    "And we have plenty of fodder on the 40 man to lose right now without blinking" I am expecting to lose Thompson, Darnell, Graham, Boyer, Duensing and Robinson. I am expecting to add A.B. Walker, Tyler Rogers, J.T.Chargois, Engelb Vielma, Zack Jones and Felix Jorge. Who else is fodder?

    You are right! That could keep him in Rochester on Opening Day. Of course, if he never gives up a fair ball in ST games, Terry will have some 'splaining to do, Lucy!

    "He won't start the season in the rotation, no way" Because he isn't good enough? Then I don't want him to hurt us now, and then lose a good player to Rule V, because we put him on the 40-man roster too early.

    "that is on Terry Ryan too" I really don't give a bleep WHO it "is on". I want to try to win a W.S. when we have a good enough team to pull it off. Not when we start Gibson, Pelfrey, Milone, Hughes and two rookies (Duffy and Berrios) against Wacha, Lackey, Lynn, and Martinez; or Greinke, Kershaw, Anderson and Wood. Good luck with THAT!

    I'm pretty sure Sano can out-run Plouffe, SO Sano in RF, Plouffe stays at 3B; Vargas at DH. Or maybe one of those guys replaces Escobar at SS.

    The Red Wings fly (drive?,run?,swim?) from Rochester to Pawtucket after their game tonight. Hopefully Hicks will hide in the Men's Room stall, miss the bus (or whatever?) and fly to Minneapolis on the Red Eye.

    I think they have a much better chance to win IT ALL, AFTER this season, than they do this season. I would rather Berrios be available when they have that better chance. I haven't given up on this season, but I want to save my chips for when I have a GREAT HAND!

    Yes, they can choose now. (My guess is Thompson, who will go later, if not now). However, in December, during the Rule V draft, another team will select someone who DIDN'T make the 40-man, because Berrios took that spot. And Berrios COULD have been added to the 40-man next spring, instead of this month.

    "Don't forget we will need a spot on the 40 and 25 man roster next year for the rule 5 guy we will pick up to help out the bullpen" That is hilarious and sarcastic, but next year, IMO it would be a terrible plan!

    They will lose one immediately (Thompson?) BUT NOT ANY ONE VALUABLE! In December,with Berrios having been put on the 40-man in September (unnecessarily for Rule V purposes) they may lose someone valuable to Rule V.
