  1. Could I see the metrics, pleeze?
  2. Because minor league batting performance does not demonstrate that you can hit in the Majors. You have to hit successfully IN THE MAJORS, to prove you can hit in the MAJORS. NOTHING ELSE PROVES IT! AAA is full of guys who DID/CAN hit in the minors. Most of them thought they could hit anywhere, but found out otherwise. Success in fielding, throwing, running and fundamentals translates between levels. Hitting does not. TO repeat: You have to hit successfully IN THE MAJORS, to prove you can hit in the MAJORS. NOTHING ELSE PROVES IT!
  3. You may be correct, but his past OPS is not a factor. All his offensive upside is projected, NOT proven. His glove is my reason for wanting him protected. The Twins and the rest of MLB have their own opinions.
  4. In last Rule V draft, three infielders in the first eight choices were selected and all three made opening day rosters. Arizona Diamondbacks Oscar Hernández C Tampa Bay Rays Started the season on the disabled list 2 Colorado Rockies Mark Canha IF Miami Marlins Traded to the Oakland Athletics, made the Athletics' Opening Day roster 3 Texas Rangers Delino DeShields, Jr. OF Houston Astros Made the Rangers' Opening Day roster 4 Houston Astros Jason Garcia RHP Boston Red Sox Traded to the Baltimore Orioles 5 Minnesota Twins J. R. Graham RHP Atlanta Braves Made the Twins' Opening Day roster 6 Boston Red Sox Jandel Gustave RHP Houston Astros Traded to the Kansas City Royals, claimed by the San Diego Padres, returned to the Astros 7 Chicago Cubs Taylor Featherston SS Colorado Rockies Traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, made the Angels' Opening Day roster 8 Philadelphia Phillies Odubel Herrera IF Texas Rangers Made the Phillies' Opening Day roster
  5. IMO, the new players to protect are Adam Brett Walker, Engelb Vielma, JT Chargois, Luke Bard, Mason Melotakis, Zach Jones, Taylor Rogers and Felix Jorge. The Twins have a better idea than I do, as to whom the other MLB teams might be interested in selecting. Downside to waiving Mauer and Nolasco, is the Twins paying the balance of their contracts while they play for someone else for nothing.
  6. *i need a Blyleven fix every so often once the season ends" I would rather be a crackhead!
  7. I like Joe, so I am writing this only to pre-empt the comments that are coming soon. Who will be the first to ask, "Why don't they re-name the school in his honor, ie.,St. Joseph's High School?"
  8. Except if the umpire consistently calls strikes on unreachable pitches. That makes the batter's situation consistently impossible and dangerously frustrating for the batters and just plain dangerous for the umpire.
  9. IMO, chasing an ace usually produces the same result as when a dog keeps chasing his ace.(spelling?)
  10. You have the rule correct, but Walker as played FOUR seasons. He signed in June, 2012 and played the short-season Elizabethton 2012 season, which counts! Add 2013, 2014 and 2015 ad you get FOUR seasons.
  11. YES! and it's even more annoying when referring favorably to umpires. If an umpire gets every call wrong, that is not a good thing. If a hitter strikes out all the time, he is consistent, but that is not a good thing! If Bert Blyleven consistently says a player is consistent, it is annoying!
  12. •172 service days = 1 service year •Players max out at 172 service days/year; seasons usually have 183 service days •Players needs six full years of service to reach free agency •Players need about 2.130 years of service to reach arbitration So players are often kept in the minors long enough, so that they do not use up a full service year. (172 days)
  13. Go talk to the tree!
  14. It has been used as an excuse by every back-up / utility guy since the Civil War. That is either testimony or an ancient ploy to ask for more playing time.
  15. Only ONE Twins player, with more than 10 AB, hit above .280 in 2015. Eduardo Nunez hit .282. So don't talk bleep about any .280 hitter. .280 is the NEW .350.
  16. And you know this because Terry Ryan was in the next stall?
  17. Revere is not a CF because of his weak arm; and May will not be a setup guy much longer, when the logjam of veteran starters clears up.
  18. How many people die with NO accomplishments and plenty of upside unused?
  19. "The AFL season has an off-day every week, look for them then..." Sample size be damned! The Twins are loaded with young catchers! Garver is hitting .667 and Turner is hitting .500 in the AFL. They have a combined five AB, but who cares?
  20. If you don't sign Nolasco, you can't trade him for a time machine. SO, then you CAN'T go back in time to sign (or NOT sign) Nolasco. This another fine mess you've gotten me into, Ollie!
  21. He'd still have to worry....about rebounds off the rightfield wall hitting him in the head!
  22. "could neither maintain it then nor replicate in this year’s first half" In the part of two seasons in which the Twins played Escobar as a regular shortstop, he hit the crap out of the ball CONSISTENTLY! At this point there is NO EVIDENCE that he can't replicate it WHENEVER he is given a regular job!
  23. "Rosario-Buxton-Hicks. Any other OF is indefensible" I think you meant to say "any other outfield is offensive and not as good defensively". Naah, maybe you did say what you wanted to say.
  24. "One option, in the event that Hicks is in right field, is to platoon him with Oswaldo Arcia" If by platooning, you mean Arcia on offense and Hicks on defense (think football), that is a fantastic idea! If you are thinking baseball, I suggest playing both of them simultaneously in right-field, so Hicks can chase every ball that Arcia misses...Buxton can cover the remainder of the outfield.
