If he's going to be the man at 2B next year, he needs some major league reps this year to show what he can do. With the way Schoop is playing, that only happens with an injury.

Article: Hello? Rochester... Please Send Help
071063 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would hope Reed would get a chance soon. He's earned it and it is time to see if he can cut it. If not, then we can all quit wondering and move on.- 96 replies

Article: Starter Or Reliever, That Is The Romero Question
071063 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it makes sense to allow Romero to pitch out of the pen this year and then next year, when we will be looking for starting pitchers, he can move into the rotation. By pitching out of the pen this year, it allows him to 1) dominate (hopefully) with the stuff he has, 2) work on his change-up and breaking stuff so that he has 3 solid pitches (or more) for when he transitions back to the starting role in 2020 and 3) to learn and observe from the veteran starting pitchers an how they prepare, how they attach major league hitters and how they maintain between starts.- 53 replies

Article: Twins Daily 2019 Top Prospects: #8 Lewis Thorpe
071063 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick, what kind of velocity does Thorpe have on his fastball and his various breaking balls? -
With the lack of long term financial commitments the Twins have, and with the result it would have on the depth of the existing bullpen, I think pursuing Kimbrel would be an excellent move. At 31, he's not old. even at the end of the contract we reportedly offered, 3 years, he's still only 34. For the term of the contract, he could very easily give the Twins a shutdown closer, allowing the rest of the bullpen to settle into rolls they are familiar with and, probably, better suited to performing. This move would go a long ways toward solidifying the pen for the next 3 years.

Article: Keys to 2019: Buxton’s Emergence
071063 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree that Buxton is the key. I also believe he will take a major step this year. Call me overly optimistic, but he is too talented no to. Injuries have been a major hurdle for him. I feel the reckless abandon he plays defense with has hurt his offensive development because he gets injured and has to adjust. If he can play 150+ games this year, he will be fine. To me, his health is his biggest hurdle. If he stays healthy, he will take the step we wait for.- 42 replies

Article: Making a Machado Bid
071063 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would take a serious run at Machado and not worry about blocking anyone! We don;t have anyone close enough t the majors that he would block. Lewis is talented enough that he could move elsewhere or by the time he is ready to take over the SS position full-time, Machado might be ready for 3B. With no long term commitments on the books, this is the type of move that the Twins brass could make that would allow this team to take the next step. I am not a Machado fan as far as some of the things he has done or said. However, he is at a star at a premium position, SS, and they don't grow on trees. This would be a HUGE win for Falvine! -
I like this signing. We have worse guys in our bullpen right now so this is an upgrade. Can't really argue with that. And at the price we signed him for, if he doesn't work out, the Twins can cast him off easily. In my eyes, lots of options in the bullpen make sense. Over the course of a year, you are going to use numerous guys out of the pen. Guys you expected a lot out of aren't going to perform at the level you expected, other guys are going to come out of no where and pitch better than expected. Options are good and Parker gives them options. A decent move.

Article: The Twins Should Extend Odorizzi, Not Gibson
071063 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree completely with extending Odorizzi! Now is the time. I think it would be wise of the fron office to approach Gibson as well, but he is going o cost much more I think. For sure get Odorizzi done, but chase Gibson as well. -
I know everyone wants the Twins to be making moves because that is fun and exciting. But realistically, as of today, I don;t think this team is ready to compete this year. So much of this teams success is going to depend on whether Buxton and Sano can take the next step. If not, then they will probably be looking at a slight rebuild waiting for Kirilloff and Lewis. As of today, I think patience is the right approach and I applaud them. Wait for a good deal but don;t do something stupid that negatively effects the club when you are ready to win.

Trading Sano at this point is a terrible idea, especially for Meyer. Sano's potential makes it a no brainer to keep him and see if he is going to get on the right track. Also, his value is at an all time low. We need him to perform so he can either restore his trade value or prove he belongs in this lineup every day. Trading him at this point would be a terrible idea!

Article: Across the Meadow: The Buxton Saga
071063 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with the front office on this one. Buxton has not earned a call up at this point. With the injuries and lack of results, starting the off season training for him is the right call. Let him go to Florida or Georgia and work on things and get healthy. Yes, he hit well later, but the remainder of the year was a disaster. Not enough to call him up. Also, I think the extra year of service is worth the risk at this point. If he develops, we can try to sign him to a long term deal. If he won't sign because of this, then we QO him and take the draft pick and move on or trade him while his value is high. At this point, his value is so low that if we tried to trade him, we would get very little back. I think it's a good, long-term, team decision. Nothing wrong with that. -
What's with this new strategy of starting with an "opener" as opposed to a starting pitcher? Don't understand why Rochester would start Moya and then bring Stewart in after that? Seems to take both pitchers out of their normal roles. Seems odd to me! Why?

Article: The Gib is Up, Kyle Is For Real
071063 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point, is Gibson an extension candidate? He's 30 years old with 2 years control. Do you try to buy out those last 2 years and add maybe a year or 2 to keep him or do you let the chips fall where they may and see where things sit in 2 years with him and the other prospects we have in the minors? -
Article: Week in Review: DEFCON 1
071063 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it's time Carter got a chance at the Major league level. He will never hit for average but who on this team is? His power might help a few others see better pitches. It's worth a shot for now. Seems to me Morrison is a "minor"injury away from the disabled list and that could help him rest too.- 85 replies

Article: Twins Daily Awards 2017: Most Improved
071063 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think award could have easily gone to Buxton, Rosario or Berrios and nobody could have complained. Nice to see three (3) young, key figures for this club in the future take such dramatic steps forward! Very exciting! -

Good article. I don't think the 3 losses to the Dodgers changes anything, except possibly making people realize the situation. The Twins should be sellers and SMART buyers. Sell assets that won't be here to help us win long term. Buy only when the asset you are receiving can help you win long-term. To me, it's pretty simple.
