  1. Here is how I envision the starting line-up coming out of spring training. SS Dozier 2B Carroll C Mauer LF Willingham 1B Morneau DH Doumit RF Parmelee 3B Plouffe CF Benson SP Diamond I realize that Dozier has been working out some at 2B but with SS being a premium position, I don't think the Twins give up on him there yet without a potential top line replacement in the minors, and that doesn't exist yet. Even though his age is against him, I think Carroll gets the starting 2B job with Escobar being a possibility. Steady defense is the deciding factor with the Twins starting pitching as it is. I think Escobar and Floriman both see significant time in the starting line-up at 2b and SS respectively with the Twins allowing things to sort themselves out as the season goes. Parmelee will start in RF. The Twins have pretty much said this since the trades of Span and Revere. Benson gets a chance in CF with Hicks starting in AAA. I thinks Hicks may very well earn a roster spot but the Twins will start him in AAA and let Mastroianni start the season as the 4th OF. We should see Hicks if there is an injury, if Benson is horrible and plays his way out the line-up, or once June 1 is past. My thoughts are based on how the Twins typically handle things and what seems realistic.
  2. I still haven't seen the terms of the deal for Marcum. I think everyone needs to wait and see what the Mets paid until you rip Ryan. If the Mets overpaid, then all the jabber in this thread is ridiculous! Wait and see what the terms are! Wow!
  3. If the Cubs add Edwin Jackson and Villanueva to their staff, along with Baker, Garza, Samardzija and Wood, their staff is not too bad, especially when compared to what the Twins would be throwing out there.
  4. What are the chances that the Twins would add Marcum and Villanueva to the starting rotation? Both would be top three starters right out of the date and both seem to be available.
  5. I agree with this! He is better than Corriea.
  6. Do you think they will start with Hick is CF day 1? I don't believe they will. I think they will let him get his feet wet at AAA and use Mastro in CF, along with maybe Benson or Arcia. Then maybe mid-season or so, if Hicks has done well at AAA, bring him up. Thoughts?
  7. None. Not a fit and not gonna happen.
  8. Not a fan of Dempster for 3 years. At his age and the current Twins roster, I would be inclined to look at someone younger and overpay / over term them.
  9. For that money, the Cubs can have him. Everyone seems to forget that the first year after TJ surgery, most mortals (Strasburg not included) struggle. The Cubs overpaid and with no option (if that is truely the case) than this is a great deal for Baker and a terrible deal for the Cubs. Even though I wanted Baker back, not at this price.
  10. I like this move. If it is for three (3) years, it gives the Twins time to see if he is recovered or not. It also allows him to feel comfortable enough to take the time coming back and not try to do too much too fast. I agree that he is a solid 2 or 3 starter in most rotations. However, in the Twins rotation, he would for sure be a #2 unless the Twins sign a couple of high end starters, and I don't think anyone expects that. Good move.
  11. Count me in. Tom Fischer
  12. Thanks for the continued updates. They are appreciated.
  13. Seth, does that mean that the Casilla experiment is over and he won't be with the Twins next year or am I reading too much into your statement?
  14. Right now, Capps has value as an experienced closer. As stated above, there are several teams that have needs at the back end of their bullpens as either the closer or as one of the set-up men (7th or 8th inning options). I suspect the Twins will listen and I expect Terry Ryan to make a trade for a high end prospect in a low level league. We then need to develop that player, which is a separate topic onto itself.
  15. I listen to the Twins on the radio a fair amount, in the car, while I am working in the yard in the evenings or on the computer at work. I am curious what everyone thinks of the radio broadcasters, Cory Provus and Dan Gladden. My thoughts...so far, I really like Cory Provus. I think he does a great job of "painting" the game for the listeners. He sounds good and has a very good feel for the game. I am not a fan of Dan Gladden. He seems to state the obvious way too often and adds very little to the game. The way he talks seems very condescending at time, to both the fans and, IMHO, to Cory Provus. I don't recall him doing that to John Gordon. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, it doesn't always sound like they get along real well. Not sure if that is accurate but just something I think I have noticed. I really like when Jack Morris is in the booth instead of Gladden. I am hoping he might be a replacement for Gladden in the future. Does anyone know if he is planning on doing some Twins games this year again or has he moved on to other things?
  16. I think he has to start on the major league roster until the OF of Willingham, Span and Parmalee / Plouffe prove they can handle it defensively. Then, if they prove that, the Twins can think about sending Revere to AAA to play everyday.
  17. If the Twins decide to carry three catchers, who will it be, Drew Butera or J.R. Towles? I am hoping it will be Towles if he can hit at all this spring. Defensively, they are very comparable. Offensively, Towles career BA is slightly better than Butera's (.187 to .178), his OPS is significantly better (.583 to .481) and his slugging % is better (.315 to .261). He's hit in the minors but hasn't been able to do it in the majors. Maybe the AL will be a better fit for him. Thoughts?
