  1. I too am old enough to have seen all of these players...I voted for players who spent substantial time with Twins not who blossomed elsewhere...no Molitar or Big Papi... 1. Carew (best hitter anywhere over last 50 years) 2. Oliva 3. Killebrew 4.Puckett 5. Mauer There is a gap 6. Hrbek 7. Allison 8. Morneau 9. Torii 10. Cuddyer Lymon Bostock belongs in this list too--but too short a time for him...
  2. I believe the Twins can contend in 2014 and that is what I am working towards... First--go after Grienke or Haren (odds are we wont get them) but try--3 years $50-60 million. Second--trade Span/revere (and whatever else you need) for Hansen/Shields (may overpay but we need top starter) Third--avoid rest of free agents (Maholm, Jackson, etc. no better than what we have) unless they agree to one-year deal less than $8 million. Fourth--sign Baker/Pavano (only one) to cheap contract with incentives. Fifth--give spring training shots to Dozier, Florimon, Hicks, Arcia, Gibson, Hendricks, etc. Let them grow in majors. Sixth--trade Morneau, Willingham for prospects and put Parmalee at 1B
  3. Well to be fair I wouldn't even say he was the worst this year. Maybe the worst by the Marlins organization. I doubt even the worse by the Marlins--they have gone thru almost a manager a year. Yes, Bobby Valentine has to be the worst hire of the past year.
  4. How reliable is this source...there is nothing on either MLB.com or Twinsbaseball.com about these transactions...
  5. To me the bullpen is third priority after starting pitching and middle infield. Dont spend money on depth in bullpen after Perkins and Duensing and Fien and Burton. Use what we have maybe add Walters Spend the money on middle infield and mostly starting pitching.
  6. I use my DVR--I love true crime shows--so I record shows off the ID Channel like Paula Zahn, Nightmare Next Door, Sins and Secrets...I now have about 20 episodes to watch over the off season. I do watch football on Sundays (I am a Jets fan) and the scattered Monday and Thursday night. My wife loves Castle and Mentalist (sometimes they are pretty good).
  7. Good for Naked BP (for those of us BatGirl alums). I hope Mickey gets the job...though I read in Washington Examiner the next Fish mgr. will be their 5th in 3 years.
  8. I agree with all 5. I am hoping that Alexei is signed back at a lower salary after being non-tendered to work with Dozier/Florimon. I think he can be good in the 5th IF role. The key to your 5 to me is the rule 5 draft. Thats how we got Johan and I think thats how we got Diamond. Ryan seems to come up with gems there. I am not optimistic on the FA pitcher--none outside of Greinke look like aces to me. Most look like Pavano or worse.
  9. Yeah, I've been hoping for him for awhile now... Rhino would be a great choice...surprised he hasnt been given the opportunity to manage somewhere yet.
  10. key words in above comment--small sample sizes.... lets give Dozier and Florimon the opportunity to play middle IF at spring training. If one stands out (or maybe both) go with them next season with Carroll as a backup. I admit to being a big Dozier fan--I think he can be a decent MLB SS...maybe Florimon too...but give them a shot...look at how many shots Alexei has had.
  11. I call this thin. The only ace on this list is Grienke--he wont come here and he is a borderline ace. The only number 2 are Sanchez and Haren. All of the rest are Pavano (of a couple of years ago) or Baker level. None are worth more than $30 million over 3 years. Avoid Lohse, Santana, McCarthy, Jackson, Millwood and Dempster like they have the plague. Maybe I would sign one of the others for $25million over 2 years and expect a mediocre number 3.
  12. Does Molitor have managerial experience anwhere??? I dont think so. So how do you hire him as Twins manager without any minor league mgr. experience. Better to promote Glynn much better to bring on somebody like Manny Acta with MLB managerial experience. Make Molitor hitting instructor not manager.
  13. I would agree with that--BUT--should the Twins sign him?? Not at 5yrs/100million. He is about 30 years old--he has number 1 potential but has been up and down. A 5 year contract for Greinke will make the ChiSox deal with Peavy (who was Grienke a few years back) look good.
  14. Should Twins consider trading Mauer?? Of course...but must receive a top level pitching prospect, and more (maybe a replacement catcher that would be better than Butera). Will the Twins consider trading Mauer??? I doubt it.
  15. Yes, Twins have few tradeable assets right now. Span/Revere as CF lead-off men and Parmalee. Morneau will bring little (big contract, concussion history, last year of contract). So bring Rosario, Arcia, Hicks, and Sano to ML spring training, give them at-bats vs top pitching and see what they show. Send them to Rochester for seasoning unless they prove stars at training camp. Bring them up as they are ready--but give them time in show in 2013 to learn trade and maybe we can contend in 2014. Assuming Span or Revere is traded this winter--come July 2013 we will know whether to trade Willingham, Span or Revere, Plouffe, etc. to get some pitching here--assuming the 4 kids will play in 2014.
  16. I go with competing in 2014 and planning for that now. The Twins have basically two tradeable players--Span/Revere (trade one keep the other as lead off CF) and Parmalee. Morneau is going into walk year with a big contract and concussion history--he will bring little. I would trade Justin for best offer (young prospect) and Span/Revere for pitching and keep Parmalee. Dont waste $$ on free agents--its a weak class--the top guys like Greinke wont come here. Jackson/Marcum not a big improvement. Go with Florimon/dozier in the Middle INF. See what Plouffe gives us over a full season. Go with Gibson, Hendricks in the rotation and see if the are MLB pitchers. Second half of 2013--bring up Hicks, Arcia and Sano and see if they can be ready in 2014. If Gibson, Hendricks are non MLB ready--make trades at deadline and sign free agent pitchers next year.
  17. If Miggy doesnt get this after winning triple crown--then there should be an investigation. Mauer should finish about 7th (behind Miggy, Trout, Jeter, etc.)
  18. None of these guys have a better upside than Pavano, Blackburn, or Walters...for each of them...best thing that could happen is to actually pitch in AAA next spring and do well and get a shot...odds are that one of them could come back and win 10-12 games...but which one. I would much rather see Twins give shots to Gibson, Hendricks and Deduno.
  19. Using this years series as examples--5 games in 5 days works fine for Yanks/Os and maybe Cards/Nats. Not so cool with longer flights for Cincy/Giants and As/Tiggers. Yes Selig is a complete moron--there is no need for second WC anyway. Just to give BoSox a better shot...go with one WC per league and 3 division champs.
  20. The worst thing about this is the impact on the offseason restocking of the roster. Any chance a decent pitcher would come here as a free agent is gone--he knows that Andy and Gardy are lame ducks. Morneau's slight trade value (14 million contract, one concussion from forced retirement) has dropped cause he is unhappy. Just a mess.
  21. This whole fiasco has been mishandled. Some said Gardy threatened to quit if Anderson was canned which should have happened--the Twins have the worst pitching...I wonder also if he threatened to walk (go to Cleveland) if Vavra was gone (he has done a good job. I also wonder if Mauer and Morneau spoke up for Vavra... This is a mess...I also think press premature running of rumors makes it look worse than it is...of course the press does that routinely.
  22. There is no doubt Morneau is gone--he has basically said he wont re-sign now. I wonder if Gardy walks away. If I was him, I would. Take away my coaching staff (except for Anderson) and give me guys I may or may not want with a no pitching--you are basically telling me I am a lame duck--maybe I should walk away now. Why not keep the bullpen coach who has been here forever?? Twins better give him some honor next year. This was done poorly and handled worse.
  23. Thanks for posting--great link. I dont care if the Miggy gets the MVP--the triple crown is historic. As I said last week--Yaz got it in 1969--I was a senior in college. Nobody since, I am now retired. Nobody got the triple crown during my whole working career. That is amazing. Whether Miggy actually gets it or not--he has had an historic season.
  24. I agree--I doubt they will get a number one thru either trade or free agency--but maybe a second number 2 to go with Diamond. Then you open up the competition in ST--DeVries, Deduno, Baker (if healthy), Blackburn (since he is under contract), Hendricks, Walters--top 3 make it. Gibson comes up around June 1 (if healthy) to take the place of whomever sucks the most. Hopefully, out of all this we get 3 decent starters...
  25. A couple of weeks after the dreaded vote of confidence is about par for mgr. firings...but why not wait till end of season?? I like Manny, I think he did a good job here with the Nats (in the days before Harper, Strasberg and both Zimmermans). I hope he lands on his feet next spring.
