  1. These Yes announcers are pretty even-keeled in their calling of the game. Giving credit to opponents, complimenting some of the opponents, etc. Talking about the actual game. It's been surprisingly decent broadcast.
  2. I agree, though Detroit is a newer dislike for me. My White Sox dislike goes way back for me.
  3. I'm sure you have plenty of crayons. Anyone who makes posts like that to someone just discussing the reasoning for disliking the Yankees so much over other teams likely has plenty of crayons along with juice boxes and lunchables in the fridge. BTW, on the rare occasion I failed a test, I didn't blame the teacher, or the school, or the school district. I blamed myself.
  4. Well, see, now they can promote Buxton and still keep Hunter playing somewhat regularly. All is right with the world. (Come back soon Hicks!)
  5. Yankees fans would be right in their argument. Hate the rules, not the team that plays within the rules to their advantage. We wouldn't blame the Twins if MLB teams got rewarded for being ultra-conservative. I reserve my strong dislike for the White Sox, myself.
  6. Yeah, I was around for those games, and yet I don't feel the need to shift the blame to the Yankees for our playoff failures. What I noticed about those games is when we'd get the lead, we'd pucker up and pray not to loss as opposed to stepping on the Yankees throats. Hard to win playing that way. Like prevent defense in football. Those Twins teams seemed like they were in awe of the Yankees. Gardy seemed to put them on a pedestal. Then when we get the lead it's like, I can't believe we are winning against the Yankees, let's not mess this up. They played better and played all 9 innings and won.

  8. Seems a lot of Twins fans hate losing to the Twins more than any other team. Sets them off when it happens. I don't get that because the Yankees are just another team and not even a division rival.
  9. Sorry, but in order for us to know for sure that what you are saying in bold is true, Ryan would actually have to do something somewhat bold at a trade deadline. Since he has NEVER done that, and likely never will, it's pure speculation.
  10. Nice play by Rosario Didn't get him, but still a nice play.
  11. Yeah, the contracts aren't killing this team one bit. By the time we need the money to sign the players we hope deserve big contracts, all the big contracts will be gone. What's killing this team is lack of proven MLB quality talent.
  12. Your appeal to authority is amazing. Everyone here knows it's a hard job, yet somehow trades happen all the time at the deadline. Is it not equally hard for every GM in the business? This year quality talent flew all around at the deadline. Ryan has been a GM for a very long time and has never made a big splash at the deadline. Ever. Not once. Well, unless you want to count him bailing on the team by trading away Castillo in the middle of a playoff run which ticked off the players and sent us into a tailspin. It's either not in his nature, and he should step down, or there a ton of other GMs who manage to do this tough job of making trades to help their ballclub at the deadline while he can't/won't, and he should step down.
  13. It wouldn't have cost anywhere near that to get Tulo, so it's a moot point.
  14. This is a ridiculous post for many reasons. First, I don't think anyone actually hates Terry Ryan or anyone in the FO, they just question Ryan's ability to do the job. And since Ryan questioned his own abilities to perform his duties in today's game in his statement when he stepped down the first time, it's not unreasonable for people to question him now 8 years later, especially when we see his continuous inaction at trade deadlines, his very questionable FA signings year in and year out, his personnel moves and/or lack thereof, etc. Second, GMs get compared to GMs, just like pitchers get compared to pitchers, shortstops get compared to shortstops, and people of all jobs get compared to others that similar do similar jobs. To defend them by saying they can do better than an average fan? Like I said. Ridiculous.
  15. Dozier was drafted during Smith's time as GM and Ryan signed him through the time frame we had him anyway. There were no free agent year bought out. As far as finding Hunter? How hard was that? He went and overpaid for a former Twins star who would fill seats. Hunter's been predictably poor on defense and on offense he's batting .235/.288/.413. 18th out of 19 qualified players in OPS at the RF spot. So, basically, one of the worst starting RF in the game today. And Boyer, only one relief pitcher has allowed a higher % of inherited runners to score and no one on the team has allowed more actual inherited runners to score. I know you mentioned Hunter and Boyer only for the first half, but they still play for us and their whole body of work for this season counts when evaluating a signing.
  16. Yes, the players and manager shoulder a chunk of the blame, but in the end, the GM is responsible for the talent on this team. If the talent level isn't up to par, they are already playing with one armed tied behind their back. If two chefs compete against each others, and one get fresh produce from a quality farmers market, and meats from fine butchers, and the other gets his produce and meats from Walmart, the latter chef better be an amazing chef over and over again. The fact that this team has even discussed playoffs without laughing is a testament to this team's (players and manager/coaches) efforts in spite of the lack of proven talent on the team. Can only last so long though.
  17. a lot of the talent came from when Smith was GM too.
  18. For those who believed this would happen, who still believes that?
  19. So the idea is to just blame the players and not the level of talent put on the roster year after year? And who do these discussions drive away, Front Office fans?
  20. From Dave Cameron: 'WAR is context neutral, so it doesn’t account for any kinds of sequencing, which can have a big impact on W-L record; just ask the A’s about that. It’s also a linear model, where team run scoring is not linear, so at the team level, it’s better to use something like BaseRuns.' 'WAR isn’t “inaccurate” because it doesn’t align with team win-loss records perfectly. It isn’t designed to, because team W-L records include a lot of things that aren’t player-skills.'
  21. Where's May? And seriously, I mean the player and the month :-)
  22. There are plenty of Mauer threads to discuss that on. This is about Hunter.
  23. We are tied for 28th in wRC+ for our OF this year and in the AL, no OF has a lower wRC+. So we can worry abut whether or not Hunter may or may not provide a dental floss thin more offense than Buxton may, or we can improve CF defense some and RF defense a ton by putting Buxton in CF and Hicks in RF.
  24. Our starting pitcher gave up 6 ER and only went 5 innings. Our manager likes to give up outs on the basepads. If one needs to put blame on a loss on one or two people (as opposed to it being a team thing) think the loss is on those two, with an added bonus of Duensing (though that could also fall back on Molitor).
