    yeah, as soon as he does it for 6 straight years... Since the break, Trout has a 168 wRC+ in 250 PAs, Buxton is at 154 with 182 PA. I love Buxton, but I refuse to put the pressure of living up to Trout's ability on Buxton. Trout could very well end up a top 5 position player ever when its all said and done.

    Of qualified SPs in baseball, Lester gets 6.07 runs of support per start. Gibson gets 6.15. 11-10 with an ERA over 5.00 (and a FIP close to 5 as well) His numbers look practically identical to last year. About as close to a mirror image as possible. Same amount of innings, same ERA, little higher FIP, practically the same K/9, BB/9 and WHIP. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10123&position=P#standard Whiff of success?     There's a lot of traditional old school theories on how much playoff experience plays into a team's chances, how going into the playoffs 'hot' or 'cold 'plays into a team's chances, how a players' playoff history plays into how well he will do, and so on. And since we've been told that all our lives, it's got to be true. All of it scientifically proven ;-)

    We could also use FIP, though that wouldn't make it half his seasons, just 5 out of 12 :-) In any event, I always thought Radke was a top 30 pitcher in his time who wasn't considered one cause of the whole win/loss stat. Easily my 2nd favorite Twins starting pitcher of all time.

    Problem is, ERA doesn't measure only pitching. Defense is a vital influence on ERA. Scorers decisions are a vital influence on ERA. Heck, some parks are more helpful to ERAs and hurtful to others' ERA. And if a pitcher gives up 8 runs after an error is made cause out #3 not to occur, all of that is unearned, even though that pitcher (and the defense) certainly gave up all those runs.

    All of this. I'd go so far as to say the same thing even if they barely miss getting the 2nd wild card.

    It's like fielders are being held to high school fielding standards nowadays. Think about this. Ozzie Smith is the best fielding shortstop of all time (no offense to Omar V), and yet he had 5 seasons in his career where he had 20 or more errors. In fact, in his first 6 seasons, he averaged about 20 errors a season. Last year only two shortstops had more than 18 errors.

    Well, yeah, that's why i said except Ozzie Smith :-) Though, in fairness, in Ozzie's day, a .262/.337/.370 was passable for a shortstop. Especially when he could play D like he did.

    Mauer is now 6th in AL BA and 3rd in AL OBP while playing GG defense. W/RISP: .321 BA and an 880 OPS.

    I wish I got why that isn't an error. Ball went in and out of his glove. But there are a lot of scoring decisions (in regards to what is an isn't an error) that baffle me. Back in the 80s and before, I believe that's scored an error.

    That's why my favorite players have always been the well rounded ones (well, except Ozzie Smith:-)).
