speaking of highly inflating expectations. Arcia carries a sub .250 BA, an OBP barely above .300, swings for the fences all the time, and can't field a lick. I think there's some inflating of value going on with him. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he cleared waivers and if he didn't, it would likely not matter anyway.
are you implying that a guy with a sub-.290 career OBP shouldn't be batting in arguably the most important spot in the lineup and getting the second most PAs?
Utley went out of his normal path to try and take out the catcher last night. Same guy who made that dirty play last year that prompted much needed rule changes. When did he turn into such a dirty player? Used to be one of my favorites, now he's just pathetic.
Then there was option 4: Not getting Park, letting Sano be the DH (which is where he should be), and getting a quality OF in FA instead of getting Park.
'"We are going to put him in the bullpen," Ryan said. "I don't know how they'll use him. If he throws two innings, three innings, I don't care. I kind of like those multi-inning relievers."' http://m.mlb.com/news/article/167780598/trevor-may-headed-to-twins-bullpen
There's a couple examples of it working out Brock and way more that don't. Just like when Randy Johnson gets mentioned when talking about Meyer's slow progress, the fact that there are so few players to point out and say it worked out great for that player show how bad it is, not how it's okay. Anyway, he's a reliever now. He'll get pigeonholed as one and by the time he can reach FA, that will be that. It's too bad. Such a waste.
That could be argued, but now you've said 8th hole. Goins was the only starter on last year's team who OPS in the .600s last year. Yeah say 99 OPS+ like it's a good thing for a corner OF. His wRC+ was 20th and he had a well above average BABIP that helped drive that. He has no plate discipline at all.
Last year, he was, not too arguably, one of our two best starters when they took him out in favor of Pelfrey and this year he's been demoted in favor of Nolasco. The questioning, IMO, was valid a long time ago.
This team has no leadoff guy and 3 regulars who should bat 9th (4 if Danny is playing). We were last in OBP and 13th in OPS last year. The idea that our offense would have been a bright point was, IMO, overly pushed.
Yeah, I think it's been pretty comically disastrous and that athletic ability hasn't been shown in the field at all yet. I haven't seen any above average speed for an OF on defense in regards to him. I'm glad he's exceeding your expectations, cause so far it's been exactly as bad as I thought it would be. And it's not on him, it's not a shot on him, it was just a really bad decision to put him out there.
