  1. Dick said, 'Plouffe spins and fires it and holds him to a single.'
  2. maybe, but it's not like Escobar is doing poorly and there's only two innings left. and the LF fielded that ball in very short LF. Like 15-20 feet from the IF dirt. Wasn't a tough throw unless you're Revere. :-)
  3. Why no pinch runner for Nunez? Is he that fast?
  4. Does that mean an umpire shouldn't call a pitch that nips the strike zone a strike?
  5. I missed the play Which one you talking about?
  6. strike two was borderline. Nipped the upper inside corner. Strike three was definitely a strike.
  7. looks like Escobar and Dozier have some good comradery going.
  8. extremely hard to double up Trout. For his career, he averages eight GiDP per 162 games.
  9. wonder why Calhoun hesitated on his throw? hesitated and made a bad throw.
  10. no chance to get a double play on the Trout one.
  11. Seriously Miguel? First pitch?
  12. Even in the minors, his best BABIP was .327, and that was in A ball. One more time in the minors he was over .300 (.304). He mostly sat in the .250-.290 range. He doesn't hit the ball particularly hard nor does he have a lot of speed, so it's unlikely he'll consistently be in that .320/.330 range. Very unlikely he'll end up being a .750 OPS guy. He has a much better chance of being a career backup than anything close to well above average catcher. Of course, with our catching situation, he may take a starter spot. And as good as Escobar has been, he posted a 1.5 WAR last year and a 2.4 WAR the year before. He's on the borderline of being a role-player/solid starter himself, below league average for a shortstop. Now if Murphy doesn't end up working out as well as that, yeah that's not good and not better than league average at his position.
  13. Why isn't Escobar playing?
  14. that OPS last year in the majors was helped by a BABIP that is VERY likely unsustainable (.357). Even if he could sustain a league average BABIP, that very likely puts him in the high .600 OPS range.
  15. I have no desire for Molitor to get fired, but I'm not thrilled with the goalposts continuously being moved back and being okay with it.
  16. I'd be happy with 2011 Mauer too.
  17. In fairness not all the prognosticators have been on the Buxton bandwagon. Quite a few Fangraphs ones haven't. Dave Cameron definitely didn't buy the hype. He likes Confronto better.
  18. okay, I'm done with this.
  19. perhaps anyone who is describing spycake's post as Buxton-hate should step WAY back. And, BTW, it's been longer that a week and a half. Last year counts too.
  20. yeah, but it's basically the same team as the team we ended with.
  21. how about the fact we've actually lost 12 straight regular season games?
